My Button Pals
Добавлен 8 ноя 2009
We started our button communication journey January 2022 inspired by @whataboutbunny @billispeaks @bastianandbrews and @catmanjohn.
3 of our cats currently use the buttons: Jake, a 6 year old tabby is currently using more than 60 buttons. Zoey, our 2 year old deaf calico, is just beginning to use the board. Our new Connect buttons light up when pressed so she can see which was pressed. Wash is a 3 year old white american shorthair with a lovely gray tail. He understands the button words but rarely presses. He uses his head and paws to press. He uses 5 buttons consistently. Our 18 month old chipin Rio came to us a year ago. He uses all 74 buttons on our soundboard. He is a real character. Personality plus. Our chiweenie puppy Kaylee is our star. She has been with us for 2 months and alread uses14 words. She also babbles by pushing random buttons as she plays. We are participants in a UCSD research project. Subscribe to follow along. For buttons and info: flnt.pt/MyCatsCanTalk .

Jake is suffering from feline hepatic lipidosis or fatty liver. The treatment is "aggressive feeding." This video offers a glimpse into our New Normal. #felinehepaticlipidosis #jakethetalkingcat #mybuttonpals #sickkitty

It's very cute, but that's not a chihuahua.
I think that he asks for catnip the second time because that seemed to eventually produce the cookie the first time. Dogs can be quick to identify patterns.
nw hl think sweater s water still lol more confusion. did u try put water and sweater side by side so he can see😂🇿🇦
sweet 😊
This is why most people don't use food or treat buttons. That's all they would hear all day! 🍪🍪🍪
This is beyond amazing😻 I hope my 2 cats reach this level of communication with me, it'd be awesome!! We started 2 months ago and we're at 4 buttons 😹 I'd love to see videos about your pet's progress and how you trained multiple pets simultaneously because it's the hardest part for me🐾 One of my cats is progressing faster and i feel the other might feel left out 🥲
First time seeing a dog asking for CATnip😹
how do you teach dogs (and cats) how to push the buttons to begin with let alone the correct ones?
I dont like this forcing animals to be human. Instead of spending time being doggies they are now spending time pushing buttons f/p. I dont need that garbage to know my pet is hungry or happy or sad etc.
And neither do we! We always pay attention to body language and vocalizations first. One of the stipulations of the study is that no animal is forced to use buttons. They are not "trained" but taught. They participate only if they choose to do so! The study is by the Comparative Cognition Lab at the University of California at San Diego and is going very well. Participants log every press for the researchers. Fascinating study!
I did not see a post suggesting you do this. Did I miss something?
90+ buttons! Wow.
We are now at 114. Thanks for watching. I will be posting more, in the future.
Watching talking dogs never gets old
I so agree. Dogs and cats add so much to our lives! Thanks.
Maybe he was trying to get the cat a treat too. I’ve seen shareful dogs on other channels too.
Rio is very empathetic and seems to want to parent the others. He is the peacekeeper, protector and overseer of the family. Thanks for your comment!
Chihuahuas make wonderful companions. They are easy to care for and require little grooming since the long-haired Chihuahuas' coats do not tangle easily. Being a small breed, they also have lower food requirements compared to larger dogs. Chihuahuas can be territorial, affectionate, and very attached to their owners. How long have you had your Chihuahua?
I have been seeing a lot of "talking" cats in the last several months and now I'm seeing dogs with the same capabilities. I know that one of my 5yo Torties gets frustrated because she can't communicate what she wants. I decided to get a FluentPet kit and it should arrive this Thursday. I'm 61 and retired and I have all the time I need and patience is not a problem. Hopefully they will pick up on it quickly so I can "talk" to my little girls.
Oh that is wonderful! I had a torti that was very vocal and she was also frustrated when we didn't always understand. I wish we had been able to make buttons available to her when she was alive. This has been an eye opening experience for us and such a wonderful way to get closer to our furry loves!
aw😊
Maybe the biggest button array I've ever seen.
I had a cat who liked to lay on the board so I opened it up to give him more space. It works well for us and it's in the pets' playroom so we don't mind using the space for them. Thanks for commenting!
What an absolutely precious Constellation of a Family you ALL ARE ~ ~ thank you SO MUCH for sharing this with the World!
What a sweet comment. Thank you so much!
thinking of you all! I hope Jake handles his feeds okay 🥲
Thank you so much. We lost Jake on the 6th of June. I apologize for getting behind with videos but I just didn't have the heart to continue for a while. I hope to start posting again soon.
@ I'm so sorry to hear that! No need to apologise, please take all the time you need. I hope you and your family are supported.
Rio the hero 😭
Not sure I’ll be your first purchaser, but I’ve given it a shot! I’ve bought the real thing (rather than kindle) to celebrate the entertainment you gave us from the storm piddle confession. 😂 Good luck with it. ❤
Thank you so much! I do hope you enjoy it!
So you just leave the camera running 24/7 pointed at the buttons and you get 13 second clips? Seems a little fake to me.
Bro has never heard of a ring camera
@@walter-vq1fw i know what a ring camera is. I’m talking about the volume of footage.
I think you would get bored watching 24/7. Of course we select the more interesting clips. Wouldn't you? Our feed goes to UCSD researchers so they might also isolate interesting interactions.
See comment below. Not only do we have a 24/7 feed but we also use FluentPet Connect buttons that upload each and every press to the servers for the researchers. All data is preserved
WOW, its like seeing siblings fighting/arguing with each other but they are animals. Its so interesting that they talk about each other ... Just like humans.
It really is!
This cracks me up.
It was a little insulting! 🤣
very smart doggy
Thank you! He amazes me daily!
The tail twitch of annoyance right before the button push. 😂
I was pretty sure I should have been insulted but it was just too funny to be grumpy about!
Ive seen this occur a few times on other channels with pets who use buttons.... they ask for things on behalf of other pets in the house. They must have a secret animal language we are unaware of. ❤
Isn't it amazing how aware they are of each other and events in their home?
As long as you remember that grapes and chocolate are very toxic to dogs mom...
Thank you. That's a good reminder for all of us with pets!
they are so smart!
Thank you!
I suggest it is almost statistically impossible for this to not be coherent communication.
Thank you! I do agree!
Cute Rio enjoys hearing button talk when alone... people need to play music when leave pets 🍒 My cat loved bird tv on a tablet...or young kid movies sometimes. Cheery background noise.
This was one of the funniest button interactions I've ever seen. I think it's a great idea to play music for them! I follow Cosmo, the talking African Gray parrot. She like to watch cartoons while her mom is out.
Button ...a quick feedback...preferred over yowl meow 😑
That boy had strong opinions about so many things and he paid attention to everything that was going on. We never would have known some of these things about him without the buttons!
Kind of should make families aware of "barking" at each other 😎
Good point!
I used tractor supply horse bedding for litter. It was easier for me to use water and turn the pine pellets into sawdust. The wet sawdust fluffed out when dried in litter box. Great scent and seemed to have life to clean each day. Dust from regular litter does not seem as clean so got avoided longer. You may want to get an automated litter box that cleans every time cat leaves🙃
Good advice! Thank you!
That is neat to see pets favor buttons over normal greeting 💗...they must feel a closer connection by hearing shared language 🐈
I think in many cases they do and I know it does wonders for me. They are truly amazing.
So if pets have language vocabulary... wonder how often they have opinions about what's said on tv...🙂
That would be something to know, wouldn't it?? I only have one though that pays much attention to tv and she's deaf. :( She likes to watch RUclips videos of mice and birds.
So cute, everyone should try these...pets have such a memory...not moment by moment next thing...
I totally agree! We have gotten a real education on how attentive and bright animals really are!
who doesnt want dairy queen
hehehe IKR??
I noticed Punkin move their head in direction of now button as if something flew from them..right before sounded. Animals are sensitive to all that in environment ...better than people today. .. I would say land had drop in energy...weather change etc. so normal life boundary dropped. Could be low battery, but kind of suggestive to ghosty when cat's name is said when that cat close by. Guess put up with it as sign of land going through season changes too. All that growing season versus settling down for fall and winter (as time am writing this comment in August) affects things
That is so very perceptive. I will think about this some more!
Like the walkways, 🐈🐕 does seem word buttons🎶 Want Puzzle are far apart though...🙃🤔 🌼🍔💗🍟
yes! That is one of the things that helped convince me that they know what they are pressing.
Put ‘em on a giant hamster wheel and generate electricity!
I would have enough power to run my house and some to share! 😅
This looks like some really crazy cat-lady shit
Oh my yes! 😂😂❤😂😂 We have a lot of fun. All of our data is automatically uploaded to the servers at the UCSD Department of Cooperative Cognition as part of their research.
You have the only household where I’ve seen 4 animals talk, often it’s just one in a group. Great job!
Thank you so much! ❤

I really like that you have done a voice over to give context rather than long sentences of text on screen. I think it is much more engaging. I hope that this strategy it gives you more views and subscribers. You definitely deserve it. Thank you for sharing your talking pets with us. Bless you ❤
Thank you for this wonderful comment.
Oh, what a lovely question❤
I was so amazed by this interaction!
What a sweet little disobedient dog!
LOL! Yes she is a sweetheart and definitely knows her own mind! Thank you.
Ouch. Right 8n the heart, dad.
Yup. Poor guy.
That is absolutely wonderful news that she is able to find ways to communicate with you. Blessings to you and little Zooey and your other button pals
Thank you so much. They bring so much joy into our home.
Just wow. I've seen a dog tell her owners that the other dog in the family had to go potty, but it's awesome to see a dog communicate for a cat.❤
He is a very empathetic boy. He wants to be sure everyone is happy. Thanks for your comment!
For when people think that dog owners misinterpret puppy eyes to mean ‘It wasn’t me’ 😂
IKR?? One of my favorite videos is when Otter, another talking dog, asked his mom to let him outside. When she got up to open the door, he scooted around quickly and stole his sister's (Bunny) toy that had been behind mom! Hilarious!
@@mycatscantalk I know about Bunny and Otter, but don't think I've seen that particular video. Do you know Puppy Parker? She doesn't have any fellow pets to blame for stuff, but she's so smart with respect to coming up with additional reasons to do a variety of things her human has already said No to. Very persuasive button dog 😅
I love it when pets communicate with each other silently and then use the buttons. Blows my mind every single time. Bless their little souls ❤
Oh mine too! I am in a constant state of awe.
If she is deaf she cant hear anything
Two other animals are using the buttons, so she could have observed them learning. It would be more difficult for her to find their meaning, but not impossible.
Yes to @mmh6861 and @brianorca! I do believe, although this is not scientifically proven yet, that as the animals make deliberate choices in their words, they leave behind a particular pheromone that reminds them what the button is. I believe other can pick up on this and I theorize that Zoey may be "reading" pheromones. We also use ASL with her and pays very close attention to what is going on in her environment.
Context is in the description. Thanks.
