      @@jamieunderwood33 It was sarcastic - computers are much older than that and the technology for having audio paired with an image stream is seen in Germany in 1934, maybe even earlier some other places - my research was superficial. World champion Carlsen speaks English much better than most non-native speakers and even native speakers. Very much better. As a native English speaker I appreciate his effort(s). AND...he seems to be a very nice gentleman.

    Just here studying Magnus, the human. I'm a little confused at 11:48. Did the video cut, or did Magnus react to his opponent not taking the pawn on D6 instantaneously. I'm pretty sure the video didn't cut. I just imagine that for most people there would be some sort of a gap.

    Can someone explain as to why he didn’t just take rook on 45:52?

    • @EdgeOfEntropy17
      @EdgeOfEntropy17 3 года назад +3

      Because it allows for the opponent's Bishop to center itself between his King and Rook, forcing him to lose his own Rook. This would then allow the opponent's Pawn to easily become Queen. The opponent had 10 seconds so there was no need in risking that much with an obvious win.

      No chance... For player rated 3300 is no problem win in that situation if he has just a few seconds. You can use pre-moves which cost you just 0,1 secs each. In one of my games I was in simmilar situation - winning position after opponent lose Queen, but only 5,6 seconds left. Then I start with pre-moves, made 18 moves and won with still 1,1 sec on the clock. And my ELO is less than half of 3300 :-)

  • @pokerandphilosophy8328

    I'm disappointed in Carlsen. He gets drawn into some opening variants that have been prepared over a period of weeks by a computer assisted team super GMs, he burns as much as half a second on the clock tanking over it, and he sometimes *almost* misses the exact refutation!

    I was shocked Magnus missed the knight move against Nihal and ended up blundering, had a really solid position and ended up on the back foot. Sealed his fate with the pre-move and that was the end of that.
    Might be an old game but it's still really interesting how even small improvements or prevention can prevent completely losing your position.
