- Episode 586. Yesturday I was totally surprised to find Batch 1 of Deanston Virgin Oak Cask Strength Single Malt. Also on sale! A must buy for me, but then I thought about also talking and Old Malt Cask of Glengoyne 14 year Single Barrel. Very interesting!

I've got a bottle of Bunnahabhain 12 Cask Strength 2023 on the go and love it. And then there's the Edradour madeira single cask cask strength belter ... I think it's 10 or 11 years old, and it's loaded with grape jelly/jam notes. I bought it for summertime and already have knocked off the shoulder it's so good. I'm currently trying to hide it from myself, so I have some when the weather turns hot.
Love that idea, trying to keep it just out of sight so it can last a little longer. Those are some great whiskies!
Hello Jon! I hope you’re enjoying our Beautiful weather in Edmonton area today. My favorite Cask Strength scotch is Laphroaig 10 Cask Strength! Slainté 🥃
Ah yes, that is a beauty! Thanks for sharing!
Love Deanston VO. The CS sounds right up my alley. Will need to try and track a bottle down. I have a bottle of Glenfarclas 105 coming my way so I’ll let you know my thoughts. Cheers.
Love to hear what you think of the 105. Lot's of people seem to be less impressed with that lately. I haven't had it in a couple of years, but do enjoy it. Cheers!
Always nice to see more affordable whiskeys and their reviews.
Yes, and a Cask Strength Scotch, hard to find and certainly hard in this price bracket. Cheers!
I love Deanston Virgin Oak, I would buy this in a heartbeat!
I hope you get the chance!
Bunnahabhain 12 CS. 2021, best Scotch I've ever had. 2023 is also fantastic but needs a little water to tame it. Then it's insanely good.
I hear that. Sadly it has not shown up here. Hopefully soon! Thanks for sharing!
Wow Jon that's a great find in the Glengoyne at that price without any sherry effect! The regular Virgin Oak feels too spicy to me to be enjoyable so I purposefully steer clear of off the CS version.
For CS whiskies, I either go for Arran Bothy, Ardbeg Corryvreckan or Singleton 17 refill bourbon HH which was a 2021 special releases and for some reason they sold these ones around 40-50 pounds in my market when they were around 120pounds in UK so I grabbed a bunch 😃
Cheers Jon, great review as always!
The Singleton sounds interesting, I ha e not seen it. Yes, this CS is hot. I like the oak though. Thanks for sharing, cheers!
Today in the UK Deanston Virgin Oak Cask Strength is £57 or $97 Canadian, Old Malt Cask Glengoyne 14 Year Old HL19899 is £130 or $221 Canadian. You did very well my friend.
It does feel good to get a fantastic offer on Scotch. The price on the Virgin Oak sounds more like what I was expecting. That Glengoyne? Well that is high.
I don't have a lot of cask strength Scotch, and I've not seen this Deanston or Glengoyne anywhere. I do like the regular Deanston Virgin Oak, enough that I have a backup tucked away.
Had a few Glengoynes in the past, but just the standard releases at 43%.
Really like the sound of the citrus notes on both of these you had today.
The only CS peated I own is Arran Machrie Moor, a gift from a friend, 56.2%. It's nice, though not one I go to often.
anCnoc 16 125th anniversary CS edition is wonderful, and of course it's no longer available. It was expensive at the time. Worth it to my mind!
Overall favourite is Victoriana by Glen Scotia, under $100 when I bought it. Strongly suspect if it turns up again it's going to be higher by quite a bit. I'm eking it out, and enjoying while I still have access to it. I would consider buying again however, should it ever appear.
Last time I bought Aberlour A'Bunadh it was around $100, now it's up to $140.
Won't be replacing at that price 😢
I'm very lucky to have a good collection to hand, not adding much at this point. Mostly craft Canadians when I do purchase.
Think I'll have Deanston Virgin Oak tonight, it's been awhile since I've had a dram of that.
Enjoy your Saturday evening, Jon! 🥃🥃

Great to see you finding these on offer. Nice addition to your shelves.
Some great expressions there, and yes, the have all gone up! The anCnoc anniversary sounds like a special one to have on the shelf for the occasional treat. My son is coming over for dinner, so it should be a great night. Cheers!
@@WhiskyNeighbour Sounds like a perfect way to wind up the day. Enjoy yourselves! 😊
Because of the way whisky behaves in different climates, I often say that my favourite cask strength Scotch is a Glencraig Rarest of the Rare (Duncan Taylor) 33 year old at 40.9%! However, I do also have some high proof ones. Then we run into the problem of price: things like Glengoyne Teapot Dram Batch No. 003, Tamdhu Dalbeallie Dram 04, Clynelish 1997 (G&M Cask Strength Cask No. 10229) and Convalmore 36 year old are all rather expensive (if you can even get them). So the only one I can think of that fits your criteria is Dalmunach The Wulver 6 year old (not sure how widely available, but it's good, strong - 60% - and not too pricey).
That is an amazing list of Scotch! I wish I could sip through them. Thanks for sharing one, that if I can find it, I might be able to afford. Cheers!
@@WhiskyNeighbour Well, as you know: I am open to sending samples to people... Any idea when you'll cover the other 5?
@andrewbutler7681 Sorry, I will get to them and I intend to send some fun back. Please do not send anything else!!
@@WhiskyNeighbour OK! But if you change your mind at any time...
@@andrewbutler7681 thanks!
Nice video!
Thanks!
Wow what a great price you got, definitely seems a can’t say no choice. I’ve not had either but the deanston sounded better, I’ve only had their 10 Bordeaux cask which was incredible so I’m definitely going to be keeping an eye out for their whiskies, I saw the dragon stout release for £17 last year. Should’ve bought it
Great prices for both. The Deanston is agressive, but I enjoy the Oak!
