  • Episode 78. This NAS Scotch delights with cut apple, fresh lemon, and a sprinkling of malt sugar. Add the coating and full experience of a non-chillfiltered dram, and you have an incredible entrance Scotch. Sure, it's a little rough around the edges, but if you are chasing flavour, this is a great pour. #whiskyfabric#whiskytube#whiskyneighbour

    Really appreciate your feedback and it’s a pleasure to watch your reviews with a dram. I’m fine with losing an age stamp while getting a non chill filtered really flavorful whisky. I’ve heard you use the expression, cooked down, with knob creek for example, and this Virgin Oakmis not that. I love that profile but also really enjoy the profile of citrus, sugar and 🍏 you mentioned. This bottle is light yet flavorful and at 2/3 the price of most 12 year single malts it is a modern whisky drinkers single malt!

    Thats exactly what it is. Lower price, entrance level, oily, mildly interesting scotch. Great distillery. Their top end is unsurpassed. But this still shows a lot of character as a NAS and the price is honest and reflects that.

    Thanks for the review! I'm going to pick one up. Locally it goes for $39 now. I think it is an exceptional value for that price, literally just $3 more than Johnnie Walker Black! It is a NAS, but with non-chill filtering and no color added....I believe it is definitely more bang for your buck! Cheers!

    u r always the voice of reason: fast forward to 2020 year end, Deanston VO=46$CAD (35ukp) in Ontario, 20$CAD less than Highland Park 12 (30ukp) - compare THIS to England, price is reverse ! ! !

      That’s a true statement! I was just thinking the same after I just got ! The first few drams are rather more zesty, but after a few days opened, it’s now more oaky and sweet toffee !!

    Tried this from the recommendation in your top whiskies of 2018 video. It's like nothing I've had before (not that I've have extensive experience). Smelling the cork and smelling the bottle, the first thing that came to mind was bananas at their ideal ripeness. Everything about this is delicious. To borrow a phrase from Horst Leuning at whisky.com, at 46.3% and $50 a bottle in Ontario, this is "dangerously sipping."

    • @WhiskyNeighbour
      @WhiskyNeighbour  4 года назад +2

      I am so glad you gave it a try and it agrees with you! I don't have one on the shelf right now, but I loved the full flavour I found there. Perfect or ideal bananas. I'll look for that in the next bottle of Deanston VO! Cheers!

      @@WhiskyNeighbour I found it for $32 and picked this one up (in fact it included two Deanston high-ball glasses that I left with the cashier). This Deanston has a very pleasant nose and I enjoy the flavor(s) and consistency. Freshly opened bottle so I won't jump to conclusions...but this scotch is indeed moderately rough around the edges going down. The young age is immediately apparent even to my naive palate. I like just a bit of a rough edge on my whisky and typically drink neat, however, my friends/family who enjoy scotch on the rock(s) will most def enjoy this one. Perhaps this bottle will calm down a bit. Either way...at $32US....I'd buy it again...this bottle will serve a purpose.
