This is the definitive version. She’s at the pinnacle of her power during this performance. It leaves me sobbing. Just freaking sobbing. Every time. And I’ve seen it dozens of times; Lara is my drug, and I overdose on her regularly. If she’d tried to go to Broadway, she’d have ruled New York. And yes, this is better than Barbra.
There were a handful of Streisand songs that I respected but my feeling was that everything Streisand did was about Streisand. Lara's personality allows her to communicate deeply with her audience. Nobody disagrees that Steisand has skills. She is a unique vocalist, but Lara is in a class by herself. Lara is my drug of choice. :)
I agree with you regarding the generations. I am French and I had a poster of Barbra Streisand in my room! Lara has made my eyes watery with this version. I never understood the french critics for Lara. She is something else!
I am French Canadian....and I never agreed with the french critics....her voice, her range and her control are phenomenal...she does not only sing a song, she makes you feel the story of the song...to me she is the best.
Hello, I'veseen you react to a bunch of Lara's song and I must say, I strongly resonate with everything you say about her. Thank you very much for your wonderful insights.
excellent review. Thank you. There is no one, like Lara Fabian. She has beautiful voice, absolutely unique. But most importantly, every performance is the most sincere, she lives through every song she performs. Thank you.
I love Barbra Streisand, but sorry This Performance of Lara Fabián its SUBLIME, MAGNIFIQUE She is FANTASTIC because she has all the things of a great artist!! I never saw in this life an artist like Lara!! Love...love...love her!!! She a like her song “She’s not from here”❤️❤️
True story: I just never cared for the original. It wasn't my thing. No hate for Streisand or song. But when I heard Fabian's version I damn near cried, to my astonishment. Don't even know why. Maybe more life lived added to my response. (But I give the Lion's share of credit to Fabian 😁)
I think what is especially impressive is that Barbra hadn't performed this live but Lara matches Barbra's studio performance with her Live performance. Imagine what she could do in a studio. Then again, she tends to give her best performances in front of an audience.
Oh GOD yes i can ! they were so so Proud ! her DAd must have been so PROUD of his little girl !! growing to be a WORLD beater ! absolute stunning performance ! I dissolved in tears !
She gives it all, I love that. And she has the level of control in her voice that wow; breath control, dynamics, emotions, amazing. Thanks for reacting.
Lara's biggest influance is Barbara. Lara met her and Barbara complimented her saying that she doesnt compliment people often. This is one of my favorites covers she's done
When Lara sings the high, belty notes, there is still a softness to it. This is unlike any other female singer I’ve ever heard. I am also a huge Barbra Streisand fan . I hear some similarities between the two of them. They’re both amazing. My favorite Lara performance is definitely “je suis malade”
I really do like your reaction Jeff and your explanations of the music. Lara is amazing and I can't seem to get enough of her. Keep up the good work. :)
Indeed she was broadly mocked by French critics for singing too loud, shouting, yelling. She broke down live in interviews on the topic of her critics. It also all came about around her release of her bilingual album All The Women In Me, which she invested so much of herself into and yet was a huge critical and commercial flop. It destroyed her.
Yes i think she really had a difficult time there, i recently saw a video from the production of the nue album and she said there was a time where she didn‘t want to live anymore and that was so touching.
I've never thought of her as shouting or yelling. Her belting is always under control. One singer who I do feels yells sometimes is Michael Bolton. I enjoy him when he's singing softer. But when he gets loud, my reaction is, "Why are you screaming at me?"
@@ReactionsByJeff :) Ok! What do you think about this, for example? It's not for "reaction" :) I'm just interested in your opinion. Дина Гарипова - Summertime (Концерт в Градский Холл, 2017): ruclips.net/video/GpCvsHCP1ZE/видео.html
Besides being a little off pitch in the beginning this is just amazing. No she is not screaming all the time, what idiots say that?? She is the opposite, very dynamic and soulful and so on. She can change the timbre of her voice so she is a master. Can't people hear that it's not her fault. Thanks!
that is something i never quite understood about fandom. how can you hate on the idol of your idol xD sure you could prefer your idols performance, but in the end said artist picked out the techniques/styles from their idol. for me i like all 3 barbara, lara and dimash, but my favorite is lara.
For the difference between this version with the original, I believe that Lara Fabian was influenced by the version of the duet by Michel Legrand , the original composer/song writer , with Ginette Reno at the Montréal Jazz Festival in 1986. Unfortunately the conversion from the video file to digital have butchered the synchronisation but you still can find it at : ruclips.net/video/qhgSVrOwVWM/видео.html
About the critics, I think she came at the wrong time. There was Céline Dion, who wasn't much into subtlety, and other Canadian trained female with powerful voice singer... French were joking about Canada sending them to France to get rid of them. But music critics never had a big impact on people tastes in France.
Just watched your reaction and read some of the stuff your followers wrote. I think I'm of your generation and agree there were some very good singers "back then", but then again ... not that much. Lara's voice is (in my opinion) less nasal than Barbra. I like this version of these songs better than Barbra's.
Les français n’aiment pas les chanteuses a voix malgré qu’ils aiment peut-être hypocritement Céline Dion et surtout avec cette version elle étais beaucoup plus jeune Bravo Lara.
Lara FAbian ! the best female voice on the Planet ! period !
This is the definitive version. She’s at the pinnacle of her power during this performance.

Oh my God, I think Lara colud made every daughter's father eyes watery with this song. This is another level, another magnitude, oh, wow, wow, wow....

Laras voice is Heaven in reality ! it will never be bettered ! absolute perfection of the female voice !
Lara is so perfect❤
loved this reaction.....i cried.... lara owned this song
No one can equal this stunning performance.
You are SO SO right !
Lara is incredible. She is beautiful and has endless energy. Her voice is unmatched.
True story: I just never cared for the original. It wasn't my thing. No hate for Streisand or song. But when I heard Fabian's version I damn near cried, to my astonishment. Don't even know why. Maybe more life lived added to my response. (But I give the Lion's share of credit to Fabian 😁)
WOW! I didn't think anyone could hold a candle to Barbara on this song, but man...was I wrong. Lara is a Goddess. Thanks for this Jeff.
Barbra. She’s always been very picky about people spelling her name right. 😜
YES ! OH YES !
Couldn't care less really@@maryscottoconnor9711

She supersedes Barbra in every way.
I’ve seen this a few times and it’s always a joy. She moves and sings like she’s in a Broadway play and could win a Tony for sure.
She is just wonderful and unfortunately underrated. Her voice range is just incredible.
Thanku.
I absolutetly love how she sings this song. She's brilliant. And yes, i prefer Lara's version, is just her voice is more pleasant to my ears.
Her parents were in audience that night celebrating their 30th Anniversary. Can you imagine her ‘ papa’ watching her ‘ fly’??!!!
Wow! That's so cool!!!
Oh GOD yes i can ! they were so so Proud ! her DAd must have been so PROUD of his little girl !! growing to be a WORLD beater ! absolute stunning performance ! I dissolved in tears !

Both versions are great, but I think Lara's is better. Just my opinion!
i agree
Wow!! Just amazing. I'm speechless.
Lara Fabián best diva word
Usually I always prefer the original to the copy
But this time they worth each other!!!
Extraordinaire (France) quel talent et quelle voix puissante
Lara is a world star and she will stay!

Ty for loving Lara and linda. They have been two of my most favorites.
I saw this life in Anwerp so good loveyou Lara
How its even possible to sing such a difficult song?wow
Just wonderful!!!!
Perfecta
Great reaction! You should check out Lara’s take on Mariah Carey’s “Vision of Love”. It was phenomenal!!
Thank you for reacting to this. I love to see different artists' interpretations of songs... especially Barbra's stuff! :)

Which ones?

The song " El perdón" by Diana navarro
