I'm a small town girl from South Dakota. I saw a Gomez video playing on TV at a big university. It was my first time living away from home. I was hooked. I have every single album. No one else I have ever met has even heard of them. Its tragic, they should have been HUGE. It is like these songs were created just for me and I am oddly okay with that.
Man now I feel old. I remember listening to gomez when they 1st come out. This was by far and away my favourite song at the time. Should have been a more famous band
@@soultribesoundbaths Heh - 53 now, these guys, Ocean Colour Scene (our local band), Radiohead and so many more made the mid to late 90s epic for music. These guys sound wonderful live - can't say that for many bands!
Wow, last time I heard this live I was sitting cross-legged in the field of V99, Staffordshire UK. Totally inebriated with a sunburnt face and wearing a bucket hat I've only since kept for the memory :) Good times.
Spine-chillingly good, this song. Been a fan of Gomez since their early days, and like others who have commented on here: I can't understand why they weren't bigger. I'm sure they are fine with that, and it makes no difference to me. I'm one of the lucky ones who found 'em.
Still not convinced it’s open D , it’s defiantly some sort of D tuning , I’ve spent 20 years trying to figure it out and never found an accurate version
@@luckysticks YES. I have found 'Get myself arrested' from Glastonbury 98 but cannot find (yet) Tijuana Lady from Glastonbury 98. They have appeared at Glastonbury quite a few times which I also was not aware of. Wish I had seen them there.
I remember sitting in my apartment my senior year of college in the autumn of ‘99 with weed and a bunch of candles just drinking in every note of this album.
As much as I loved their first two albums and this is pure brilliance they’re not in Radiohead’s league. You either love or loathe Radiohead. As good as The Bends was OK Computer is a masterpiece. One of greatest albums of all time. You have to see them live to fully appreciate how fucking genius they are. Thom Yorke weasel like but an absolutely incredible voice live and you can’t keep your eyes off him. The unbelievable guitar playing of Johnny Greenwood , effects , distortions, Ed as well and obviously Selway. Top drawer musicianship the lot of them. Best gig I’ve been to and I’ve been to some was 97/98 at Brid Spa. The volume of records they’ve done too. Gomez were a good enough band but Radiohead in comparison from another planet. Just my opinion.
@@neilmoore5387 Actually, Radiohead always bored me, not unlike Pink Floyd always bored me. I mean, I understood the brilliance of the bands, and what they were doing, they just didn’t hit my sweet spot, so to speak. Everyone has their own taste, I suppose.
@@neilmoore5387 ultimately I agree with you Radiohead have made more superior music. But as an album from my point of view 'bring it on' is better than any Radiohead album and I'm a Radiohead fan, but it's all about opinions.
Saw them in 2000 ish in Sheffield and a year or two after. Unbelievable live. Bens voice is incredible. Remember hearing him late 90’s and thinking what a voice , then when I saw him I didn’t think he would look like that. Favourite Gomez tune this. Always reminds me of being on holiday.
Loving the comments here. I saw them play in Liverpool. Smoked a joint when you could still smoke inside and then went a did a gig with my own band. Pure bliss.
Heard it very vaguely in the background in an episode of One day but couldn’t place which band it was after all these years. HAD TO FIND IT and here you go. This song hits deep.
Having lived in through the 90's and 2000' without hearing this band is shocking and a bit embarrassing. Friend turned me onto them last year and I'm grateful to have found them during a time where most music isn't music at all. In Our Gun is a magnificent album.

I think Ben Ottewell could read out a product information statement for something like Herpes Cream and it would still sound deliciously soulful - what a voice

It not like they were a one hit wonder, they have so many good tunes. You are right, its strange.
Shhhhh....it’s our secret.

One of the most beautiful and yet haunting songs I've ever heard...
Christ, I love his voice.
it's very reminiscent of Terry Kath from Chicago
What a voice and what a band! Brilliant indeed!
After 23 years I've now learned it's open d tuning capo'd to e on the 2nd fret which is a really great sound and cleverly done by the boys
thank you so much.... saved me about 15 years.
Wow thanks so much I’ve been after this for years too! What are the chords?
Still not convinced it’s open D , it’s defiantly some sort of D tuning , I’ve spent 20 years trying to figure it out and never found an accurate version
It's kind of open e when it's capo'd on the 2nd fret, bloody good to play either way to be honest. The book shows it as standard tuning
i used to listen to this song a lot with my girlfriend, those times were so perfect, shes gone now but this song and the memories will stay forever
First heard this at Glastonbury ‘98 on the final night. Clear night sky, Gomez and a bit high. Perfect!
