It is Billy's compositions that really make me love APC... and he is obviously no slouch here either. People may argue all day long about Maynard singing better, but to me Maynard's voice is just the pretty icing atop a big beautiful layered cake that Billy baked up.
@@Ruderalus dude I tricked my best bud with this song. He thought it was APC new album and when I told him it was just Billy he tripped out. Dude sounds just like Maynard.
@Sam Avery so Maynard writes all the guitar chord progressions and melodies??? Or the bass? Or the drums? Vocals are only one piece of the pie that makes a great song. Maynard is a master of his craft, but that doesn’t mean the other people in his bands are all slouches.
I remember when this album came out, I was so excited to see Billy frontman his own project. Here we are 15 years later, & I'm still just as excited. This album's solid af & the fact that so many people just happened to 'miss it' shows how many 'fans' are all about that image rather than the actual talent. Don't get me wrong; Maynard's as talented as they come, BUT, so is Billy, & the fact that the majority of APC & TOOL fans just didn't notice this is a tragedy. So much good stuff going on here.
I remember when this played on a now-defunct rock station when I was really young. I’ve now finally experienced a point in my childhood where I have found an underrated gem.
Love Billy's Ashes Divide album always wanted another his new album is not "Ashes Divide" it's a solo project it's cool. I like this album better though
I found out about Ashes maybe 8 years ago. I was still too blinded by Tool, APC and Puscifer to apreciate this or ever give it an honest chance. This is like an other dimension of APC.
It was supposed to be an APC album before they broke up. And Billy just said fuck it and created a new band and released an album with these songs. Dude sounds just like Maynard, and I just include this band in my Tool, APC playlists.
This song reminds me of my mother. I don't want to give a sob story or anything but she died a week ago and she was a huge tool/pusifer/apc fan and she like picked this album up like the week it came out and just played it on repeat. I haven't heard it in awhile but like this song is pretty meaningful to me and like it's really really good.
I have an APC tattoo on my arm, and it's been there for maybe 23 years or so. I know APC is Billy's band, and I wish we could hear more ASHES dIVIDE in 2024
man.. I want more from BILLY!!! I love APC.. Maynard of course gets the spotlight for anything he deos... Billy is a freaking genius... He needs more love... Power to BILLY HOWARDELL!!! show them more of what you can do... and how you dont "need" maynard to make good music
A Perfect Circle kicks ass and Ashes divide is a pretty good damn band I guarantee you will hear more perfect circle before you know it And looks like finally we're going to get a new Tool album in the next few months
Omg I still love this song so much. Can’t believe a lot of people and music stations let this song fade away. It is a very damn good song. I remember the first day this video came out idk how many times I replayed I listened to it a shit load of times. It’s one of those songs that just hit hard and takes you on a journey that music these days just doesn’t do at all. This song will forever be a hidden Gem for us grateful few that know about it. 🤘🏽
Only just discovered them... So far so good. A bit commercially aimed at a particular audience as watered down metal for the masses. I could go on and on about commercial, artificially created sub-cultures, but I don’t want any flames. Saying all that, I really do like their sound, have subscribed and am about to listen to their stuff for a while. In other words, Me; I’m listening in 2018 :-)
i started binging apc because of sessanta and this popped up like OMG this is great!! I cant believe I didnt find it 14 years ago. I bet it still sounds great live
I just realized one of the guitar sounds is just like in the song PET by APC. Never realized it before. I mean it's not surprising since it's the same guy but still it's odd I just now caught it. That's prolly why I liked this song so much the first time I heard it lol.
//Coughs. - Since we -are- bragging on who saw this when we were the youngest, I was 10. I went to go see them live with my mother in Albany, NY. I'm 14 now, but I must say he's a rather tall person. I listen to the CD everyday before I go to bed, can't believe it's been 4-5ish years since this came out.
I was listening to Black Light Burns and read one of the users comments about how it reminded them of several bands I recognized except Ashes Divide. Glad I followed up on it. These guys are pretty awesome.
How is this song not more popular? Holy shit AD is underrated!! I forgot to add that this song also reminds me of the movie POWDER!!!! Watch it and agree with me!! So sad that this band never saw big success when the production values are just as good as any other big band!!! I just can't give up on them!!!
I was just reminded of this song while watching some Tool concert footage where Maynard gave a shout out to Billy Howerdel on his last night as their guitar tech. Dude is a musical genius! The lyrics really hit home for me on this one.
I forgot about this song! Was looking up a musical festival line up I went to 20 years ago and seen them on the list and brought me here. Gosh this song was killer.
Billy is just the best guitarist ever. He's the only guitarist I'd ever listen to an entire album of ONLY guitar from (shame he hasn't done one). The man has two voices, one from inside his body and another from the strings he plucks, and both are gorgeous.
I first saw this video when I was diagnosed with Bipolar/ Depression and had almost zero (healthy) support systems at the time. I felt strung up like Billy, I felt like I lost control of my own emotions and that I was just on a one way track to whatever was at the end of the line. All while being surrounded and driven through a crowd of other seemingly looking happy people in their perfect looking lives.
here's to you Billy.... thanks for coming out and hanging with us at the gates in Pittsburgh,Cincinnati and Connecticut. I'm sure you don't remember me and my friends but your words of encouragement and understanding as well as not passing judgement my friend. I am praying that you see this msg some how, because I mess you to know that your work does make a difference in the world. I am still fighting the battle but have gained inner peace, so many of us have had our eyes opened after listening to your albums.apc as well. keep rocking out Billy and thank you once again for helping me through some dark times. and if you need an extra hand while on tour. I could really use the job lol just had another girl
To me, Ashes Divide is not just some side project of Howerdel's. This album is one of my favorites of all time; it grew on me like crazy. I like it even more than APC (yes, I said it).

gotta love Billy!! great song!! miss the 90's hooks n songs n early 2000's. need Ashes Divide back since Tool hasn't done anything or APC. bring back the side projects if u ain't doing anything w the main ones.
I've never understood how a song this good managed to slip by so many people, and remains so unnoticed to this day.
I agree!
I'm a huge Tool and APC fan and a random person suggested this band the other day. I can't believe I missed this, I love it!
I'm ashamed to admit that I just heard this song for the first time.
I managed to catch one of their live shows :-) Small club venue too which made it real awesome.
mathaeis singer is guitarist for APC if you didn't know
It is Billy's compositions that really make me love APC... and he is obviously no slouch here either. People may argue all day long about Maynard singing better, but to me Maynard's voice is just the pretty icing atop a big beautiful layered cake that Billy baked up.

10 years later, still has the sexiest guitars.
Still listening in 2022 cause this band shouldn't have been forgotten,
Billy Howerdel has a unique way of playing but he can play a note and stretch the imagination with it. He's amazing!
This band is too underrated. Tough times in my life atm, and this just feels so great.

The chorus in this song is so powerful.
The heart of A Perfect Circle being released in such wonderful music!!!

Strangely enough this is the song that got me more into rock/alternative music. Remember hearing it on TV when I was 12 and was instantly captivated.
I love Maynard, but THIS GUY is the APC core.
Pirate Grau Not the APC voice, though.
+J. Al. Jones +Pirate Grau He's one of them. The harmonies between Billy and Maynard are superb.

Its like 2008 is smacking me in the face right now, and I couldn't be happier about it.
True, one of my earliest memories of RUclips. :)

I love A Perfect Circle and Tool. Mer de Noms is my favorite album. Thanks, Billy, for everything.
2020 Quarantine watching reruns of Warehouse 13 episode when I see Pete wearing an ASHES dIVIDE t-shirt and had to listen again... AWESOME!!!
