My younger brother committed suicide last weekend by overdosing on something. He was found with headphones on, presumably listening to something. This is his youtube account. He made a playlist containing 6 songs that was edited the day he passed. This is one of the 6 songs. With the method he used, he was dead after about 30 minutes, probably unconscious around 12 minutes. I like to think that it was peaceful for him with his music on. I love you Darius, I'll miss you everyday for the rest of my life...

There's homelessness, wage slavery, tens of thousands are left to die because of lack of healthcare. All in the "greatest country to ever exist." The "richest" country. It's considered rich because of Wall Street and corporations.

It is so incredibly individualistic, there's a huge culture of self-sufficiency, total personal responsibility (we have some, but there's a lot about ourselves we're not responsible for), it is a very convenient ideology for the population to have from the point of view of big businesses and the ultra rich. Narcissism is rewarded and if something bad happens to you and you don't have a very supportive family, you're carrion. Not that collectivism is the answer, it can also be crap. It's just shockingly extreme over there, so many people in miserable living conditions and the tolerance of ultra rich people who openly cheat their way out of paying taxes in ways that normal people can't, to avoid giving back to the living, breathing system that allowed them to succeed. The pandemic makes people poorer, or homeless, and Bezos gets wealthier. It's like the population must passively watch these giant parasites suck the blood out of their country because they are protected by the State, so they might as well like it and try to become one of them

@@johnlancaster1592 Sorry for the delay, John. I'm no expert and you could just google it, but I'll give it a go. Plato has a theory called the "Divided Line." At the most basic level, it's about different levels of thought, from low to high, ranging from imagination/ opinion/ personal beliefs to, at the highest level, Reason. The Cave Allegory is how he conveys the Theory. In it, you can imagine people that have always lived in a cave. They are bound by shackles or something like a medieval stockade and have never seen the outside world, only images produced by people behind them. These people, controlling the prisoner's perceptions of the world, use a fire to create shadow puppets on the wall. Miraculously, one day, a person escapes and follows the sunlight to an exit and experiences the real world. The sunlight in the crack of the door is the giveaway in the video. Likewise, if I'm not mistaken, when the awakened person goes back to free the others, they are unconvinced and uninterested, mistakenly thinking that he is a crazy person and choose to go on believing their version of reality. In a time of misinformation, memes, trolls, bots, and the Right-Wing Echo Chamber in general, the Cave Allegory is foundational in our trying to understand the world around us. The main take away for me is this: "Why do I believe what I believe?" and "Did I come to these conclusions myself, rationally, or by people trying to control my thoughts?"

In reality, I think he is just upset that people are more fixated on the future than the present. Enjoy the moment, atmosphere, ambience. Recordings are a mere shadow of the reality that people notoriously sacrifice, to satisfy a fax paus existence that relies on likes and followers, rather than real and exusive moments, experiences and emotions. I don't think he cares that people record because it costs him financially bust more so because it costs the recorder of that unrecoverable, and unpredictable moment in time... I'm pissed off when people record using their phone during a concert. It's distracting and annoying as fuck. And a lot of times there's a little light on the front that indicates if somebody is recording and this can be incredibly distracting for musicians
As someone that suffers with depression this song resonates with me. "You were never an island." I'm a complete introvert with depression desperately searching for a quick high to kill the depression temporarily. "Dopamine on dopamine" the dopamine high wears off revealing a blacked out world so I dig deeper to find that next high while ignoring the colorful, natural, beauty of the world around me and the people in it. "Lift all higher" talking can truly help one escape the suffocating grasp of depression.

I heard this song for the first time today and started crying. There's so many people I wished I could play this song for, hoping that it would stir something genuine in them. It seems I am always trying break things down to a basic human level with people.. But they are too scared to go there. Such a pity, such a waste.
I cannot help but cry with this song and imagery at this moment. The facility is ever more becoming a blatant reality as everyone around me gets fed and conditioned by all of this media, pushing people away....dividing them, when we need to reject these narratives and actually work together, not against each other. The worst part is i feel powerless to stop this, and friends and family are ever more becoming enemies not only to each other, but also to me. I stand in the middle and watch our history be erased, art being destroyed/neutered, no such thing as a joke anymore unless it is the right joke and checks all boxes. A small voice against this cacophonous chorus that drowns out all meaning, and all intellectual recourse. I am saddened by this, on all sides.

The song isn't criticizing technology or phone use in general, so you can all stop with the self-deprecating commentary about how we're all just ironic, tragic hypocrites for using these devices to view this. They're addressing obsessive, compulsory behavior and being a kind of slave to this pacifying, though ultimately unfulfilling kind of escapism that so many people unfortunately use these devices for. There's obviously plenty of potential to actually utilize them to network insightful content, hence a group of artists / musicians creating this and using this platform to share it with the world.

Been a fan of APC, TOOL & since the early 90’s when I first heard em. But THIS entire album has moved me beyond any other work Maynard has done. It’s like he touches my soul. Sounds crazy I know but fuck ! It’s APC best album yet IMO. Don’t get me wrong i absolutely love all their other work it’s just maybe with age I can appreciate it more. Don’t know , don’t care. It says something different to me every time I listen. Eat a couple caps , put the ear pods in turn this one and close my eyes. Takes all my pains away!

Im 37 years old, and was always proud to state that I have seen world prePhones and preSmartphones and Internet. This Stuff changed society way more that we are aware of. And even if I really believe that in some decades we find a way back, there is no way back. But its really not a natural thing. We lost something beautiful. Im asking every parent out there to keep it away from children as long as possible, even its getting harder every year.

They have something intangible. Something beautiful something that NO OTHER BAND, I have ever heard, has been able to capture.
The last APC album was FIFTEEN FUCKING YEARS AGO!!!!!!!!!!! Hearing this gives me chills.

Such a masterpiece, these lyrics are showing us the cruel reality where we are living, "tuning into each other, lift all higher"
Some of us feel stronger than others, I understand him I committed suicide but I was found soon enough where they brought me back. I never forget the second before I died. My soul cried out so hard that I had thrown away, given up in this magnificent being that is I. Remorse would not be a strong enough word, I was extremely blessed to be brought back. Because when I committed suicide I remember jumping from one to another, like scenes where I was experiencing every nightmare everything I dispise, everything I had issues with and the aloneness in between was even more soul crushing, our spirit is stuck in our human form's nightmares and can't snap out of it. For eternity the hopelessness of my situation was so overbearing I believe I was deceased for 7 min. But when I came back it felt like an eternity. So every second in "hell" is like a 200 yrs. So what I learned from my experience was that the less things I hate and judge the smaller my hell will be. So if I love everything, my hell would be the same as my heaven.
You were brought back for a reason. God heard your cry. He’s reaching out to you.
Yes Heaven and Hell are real and our souls live on forever. Seek Him because in His love He pulled you out of hell. He let you see that it is real. He wants you with Him for eternity in Heaven when it’s your time to go, where there is no hopelessness, tears, sadness, mourning. Let Him into your life, because He came for me also out of nowhere and it’s been the most beautiful thing in my life, ever.

Some thing overnight came in the next day, and I really didn’t like the concept, just wasnt me… told the artist if he could draw something real quick and he said no (probably bc the original piece was big and felt I wasted his time) I thought quickly and showed him a perfect circle logo.
