We just experienced that with my dad. He had a massive heart attack a month ago, and there were no signs it was coming/happening except he was a bit more tired than usual. He was still cycling 40-70km in the days leading up to it, it actually hit while he was cycling. When the paramedics asked him if he was experiencing any pain, and was he aware he was having a heart attack he said "no, he just felt tired." They lost him on the way to the hospital, though, and he never regained consciousness.

Danielle’s stepmother and stepsisters in this adaption are part of the nobility. That’s why in the beginning Danielle was so excited to have a stepmother who is a “Baroness”…a title and rank just below that of a “Comtesse (Countess)//Vicomtesse(Vicountess). Danielle’s biological family (father) are just part of a well-off merchant family who owns land and estate.

@@onlyfoes Yes. The title of Baron or Baroness is typically the lowest rank of nobility too, so it wasn't an uncommon practice for them to marry a wealthy enough member of the gentry. I think in the French court, it went: Baron < Vicomte < Comte < Marquis < Duc, and then actual royalty...

I’m putting in two cents that every Cinderella has a good personality, it just comes down to preferences. If you like to see a feisty and outspoken protagonist, Danielle is the Cinderella for you. If you struggle to embody empathy and patience and grace like I do, perhaps you admire them in others like I do with Lily James’s Cinderella. But they’re both their own women with strong personalities, it just may be harder to appreciate in a meek woman

the messed up part about the step mother here is they made her " nicer" because shes narcissitic. those types of people are really good at being charmers and making it SEEM like they are being nice and they are the victim of your choices, which is abusive and extremely hard sometimes for the actual victim to understand that what the narcissitic person is doing is actually meant with ill intent.

    • @mish375

It's very apparent that Rodmilla is an emotionally abusive step-mother. Because she manipulates the situation with Danielle to make her feel that she has to work to help the household. But in reality she does it because she wants the free labour and to make life hard on her step-daughter. It's very realistic.

As much as I LOVE the Brandy version, its not an adaptation. Its a remake of a remake of a remake and so on. Also, the father died of a heart attack, he wasnt murdered. And it appears as though the Stepmother really did care about the father, given the beginning scene when he doesnt tell her she loves him and the way she looks at them, and also the scene with Danielle and her in the bedroom. The are a few instances were she looks as though she could care for Danielle if her jealousy wasnt so dominant. And the prince choosing her over the stepsister was just the icing on the cake, stepmother knew she was better than them, why she tried so hard to keep her down.

I actually think it was an act and she never loved him. I think she married Danielle's father because she ran out of funds. The Baroness wasn't even willing to see him off like Danielle did. The Baroness even admitted she "barely knew him" when Danielle asked if the Baroness loved her father. She's a classic narcissist and was incapable of love. However, Danielle's father rightfully prioritized his daughter over the Baroness in his final moments. This caused narcissistic injury as everything is about them.

A courtier is a Lord, Lady, Compte Countess etc. or their children, aristocrats who debut at court balls as teens, then marry if they can. They spend time at court, do jobs for the royals etc. Daniel's mum was one, so she is definitely not lesser than the baronesses kids, this is why she knew who the prince was. The farm she worked was a gentleman's estate, her father's.
She was the daughter of the house, just being treated as a servant, by those who felt more entitled. The step-mum was deceitful, acting nice at times, but rotten to the core, hiding behind lies, and making the staff pay, for her vicious lies.

This is hands down my favorite Cinderella adaptation that's ever been put to film. It is quite corny, and the romance feels slightly rushed. But growing up I really loved how Danielle wasn't a damsel in this film. She saves herself from being assaulted. She liberates herself from her abusive family. She only begins to respect the prince once he shows respect to her first. There is just something about this version that resonated with little baby me. It still does tbh.

The Father's died of a heart attack. Heart attack in men can cause pain in the left hand, arm and shoulder before any pain in the chest.

I don't think he cared that she was a servant. When he said, "And you are just like them." I think he felt like she lied to him and used him for his title because he was a prince, and didn't really care about him.

What we get told in Germany about the brothers Grimm is that 2 of them (they had other siblings) went on a journey through Germany, the neighbouring countries and so on and asked people if they know any legend, Fable or story that get told in their area. Before them those stories where only told from one generation to the next, they collected Farytales and wrote them down. They probably did take some creative liberty but they didn't invent all those stories on their own. It did a lot to safe those stories from getting lost in time. So the brothers Grimm collected Fairytales, wrote them down in a cohesive way and now almost every household I know has a copy of those. They are called Hausmärchen, that means Household Farytales. I loved those as a kid even though they where really brutal... but we also do have a thing in Germany about brutal stories for children... so you get used to it.

I don’t get how you got confused, the man with the beard is da Vinci. He’s the one who had the Mona, Lisa painting, also the one who made Danielle her wings.

Cinderella is one of the oldest stories. The Chinese tell the story of Cinderella, down to the magical shoes. The Native Americans tell the story including the two wicked sisters. There's a version in Africa, too.
I don't know who the "real story" is actually about, but it must have happened some time a lot earlier than c1500 in France.

No, the stepmother did not poison him lol. Her father died of a heart attack. Which is why they put so much focus on him fiddling with his left arm.

I loved that Da Vinci was basically the fairy godmother. The innovations he made at the time were truely "magical".
Also the grim brothers and davinci lived during very different time periods, so it seemed fairly obvious the queen narrator in the beginning and in was a descendant, and not the same person.
