      _Ever After_ is not a fairy tale movie, or a Cinderella adaptation. It's some random historical drama movie with Cinderella elements in it. What fucking Cinderella is this? Sword fighting, punching in the face, lying to the prince. This isn't Cinderella. And look at those rugged, horrid, drab visuals and scenery. It's so visually lame.

  • @lmsossi6501
    @lmsossi6501 3 месяца назад +6

    This is the only Cinderella story I've ever seen where the girl and the prince actually have a relationship and get to know each other. Usually, they meet at the ball and are instantly in love. In this version, I actually buy that the couple falls in love. The prince is hugely improved and grows because of her influence.

    In case you missed it, the two men who were told this story were the Brothers Grimm. In their version of Cinderella the slipper was made of gold, while in other versions it was made of fur or glass. Honestly Margarite got off so easy, if this was the Grimm version she would have lost a toe or a heal then blinded by birds.

    I’m so happy to come across your reaction for this. This is, hands down, my favourite film version of the Cinderella story. I end up rewatching it every couple of years or so. I love how they so thoroughly rethought how to tell the tale in a way that made sense as a supposed historical source for the tale, having removed the magical elements. And that they enter so fully into the characterizations exploring the motivations/informing circumstances behind each of the principal character’s personality and story arc.
    Particularly Baroness de Ghent, developing a resentment for Danielle being the one her father thinks of and addresses at his end.
    And, yes. Angelica Houston is absolutely brilliant in this role, both dramatically and with the infused comedic elements played so expertly through her facial expressions.
    Thank you for your great reaction.

    My school had movie day in 3rd grade, I can’t remember what the “boy” option was but I opted for this one despite not having a clue what it was about (and needing to get parent permission to see it since it’s PG-13 lol) and I ended up loving it. It’s my personal favorite Cinderella story. I love a good period piece and while maybe not to some folks’ taste since it doesn’t have magic and isn’t as colorful, I like how this one feels like it could have happened.

    Two of the things that made me love Dougray Scott's performance: His little wave to the Gypsys as Danielle carries him away, & his intonation on "To a BELGIAN?!" as if her "engagement" being to a Belgian somehow made it worse. I laugh so hard at those moments every time I watch this.

    Your reaction was delightful!! Suggestion to grow your channel: Many people commenting on other movie reaction channels say they won't watch any "short" reactions. This particular one was a good length, but I see other of your videos are in the about 20 minutes range, which most people don't like because they feel too much of the movie is left out, making for a very choppy, disjointed reaction. Even if you have to cut down on how much you show of a film due to copyright issues, if you can perhaps blur some parts and keep the audio while still offering all your excellent commentary, or use shorter clips but add your own thoughts about the plot, acting, etc., I think your very charming personality will draw more subscribers to your channel!! Good luck!!

    extra to last post. Just heard the Cinderlla ball gown properly known as the Just breathe dress was sold at a private auction which is really sad. it had been displayed multiple times (still looks good to this day) photo documentation of this dress it even had a special corset for a nice shape as well as a mechanism to insert the wings. it was heart breaking to hear that it was sold after so long. Hopefully the new owner of the gown will loan it for future viewing shows otherwise it's just going to probably be boxed somewhere for private eyes.

      They give her a few moments of humanity that make her feel complex and real, rather than a simple villain. At the very beginning with her new husband. But mostly the conversation between her and Danielle in the middle. When Danielle asks if she loved her father, you see her hesitate enough to make her downplay feel like a lie. Anjelica Huston does so much with the little tones in her voice.

  • @centurycountess4949

    This film has marvelous history although some of the time-frames maybe have been a little itch as well as costume era it's still a great film and I love it. especially Anjelica playing a b*tch and looking great doing it. It saved Drew Barrymore's image it did something but Here's a fun Historical fun fact. So they wanted to make this a realistic this could of happened yet still fiction fantasy film. The brothers grim who met with Danielle's great great granddaughter actually happened somewhat. So it's never mentioned who the old queen is well from researching the old woman who has the glass slipper now is Marie Antoinette's daughter, Marie theresa! least when I did my research it was a perfect match.and Marie would of been an older woman around the time Griim brothers tales of cinderella popped if Im remembering my notes lol! I am so glad you loved the film If you're looking for another like this. There's another film Called "Snow white: A tale of Terror" from 1997 and Segourney Weaver from Alien is the Evil Queen in this one.

    Easter Egg: When Danielle climbs down from the tree while Henry squares off with the gypsies, she goes right for the swords. Sort of giving context beforehand when she threatens Whatshisface later in the story. (though that kind of bugs me, she says her father taught her well, but he died when she was eight. Even if he started when she was five, that'd only be three years experience. And I doubt she spent any sort of time practicing with.....ANYONE in the house....and anyway who gives a sword to a five year old? And when did he even have time, since he was gone on sll those trade trips?
