This song was perfect reaction to the culmination of everything that was wrong in the 80's. Not saying everything was wrong in that decade, but the parts that were wrong...? This 1990 song was a brilliant condemnation of it. Powerful, spot on, truth!

THANK YOU. Living Colour, Fishbone and Sevendust are all great bands, but Bad Brains are legends who paved the way for those three and they’d all agree. I’m sure he’ll get to it at some point.
I've seen them live, and it's like going to church. And the whole room is just full of love. Why else would we get passionate about them? They just bring everybody together and raise us up a notch.
I had to subscribe after this. This is my favorite Living Colour song, and I'm so glad you liked it. You have a beautiful heart, Brother Jamel. Thank you for not being afraid to share it. I could totally feel you with what you said at the end of the video, and I wished I could give you a great big hug. Remember, brother, rock n' roll is a fusion of rhythm n' blues ( at the time, blues and jazz) and country music. Black and white coming together. A lot of those early rock n' roll shows were the first events to have audiences that weren't segregated. Even today's rock music is still based on the blues. It's music for everybody. That's what makes it so good. Don't forget to check out Chuck Berry, one of the very first rock n' rollers. "Maybellene" from 1955 is amazing.

Living Colour reminded me a lot of Midnight Oil. A politically astute rock band from Australia that had hit albums in the late 80's and early 90's Diesel and Dust and Blue Sky Mining. Intelligent and thoughtful rock and roll. That was different than the hair bands of the 80's that were more style than substance. And they came in ahead of the introspective grunge rock of the early to mid 90's.
This song is GENIUS. Its message is so deep that I feel it can be missed. They are spitting bars from Plato. He sings about how our understanding is dependant in labeling things . By sorting types. By labeling and pigeonholing. And how the lens you choose to look through colors what you see
Glad to see you feel the same way we felt listening to LC back in the day! Blown Away!!! Totally underrated but oh so timeless with messages that still resonate today!!! Love you man ☮️

Thank you for reacting to this song! One of my favorites from them. Hoping you can do Information Overload and also Pride. Both great Living Colour songs.
This band was busting through all kinds of barriers in the 90's. But it was a perfect time for them. Hip hop, metal, blues, jazz, ska.. These guys were dipping into all of it.
You need to check out the documentary film called "A Band Called Death" . They were a Black Punk band from Detroit in 1975 that most people didn't discover until almost 40 years later.
Next listen to "Bad Brains", Soulcraft. Then "Fishbone", Those Days are Gone. You'll thank me. I'm glad you like Living Color. I graduated highschool loving them and Faith no more!
one of the best bands I have ever seen live. they have an energy all their own. I learned to play most of their songs on the drums Mr. William Calhoun is one underappreciated drummers on the planet.
Love Jamel's words at the start of this reaction, about the effect Living Colour has had on him and how rock (and music as a whole obviously) can unite us all regardless of colour, gender, or physical traits (Able-bodied, disabled, neurodiverse, etc.). I've never understood racism, it just seems like a bad joke that took hold and hasn't let go, and I think music is one of the key ingredients in the recipe to eradicate it. I went and saw a concert in Hyde Park, London, a few years ago, where the main stage bill was Gary Clark Junior, Steve Winwood, Santana, and Eric Clapton headlining (all of whom had multi-gender, multi-race band); on the other stage was the iconic British cockney rock duo Chas & Dave (turned out to be their last concert) and a popular Italian rock singer named Zucchero. I couldn't tell you the exact margins for each race, or even ballpark figures, but I can definitely tell you that white men weren't the majority, and that there wasn't a majority at all. There were people of South Asian heritage, people from the Middle & Far East, First Nation Australians, a Maori family we spoke to, African-American people, African Brits, members of the French Arab community, and even a native man from the Yukon who flew over just for the event. We were all there, singing, moving, grooving, and enjoying the oneness of being music fans. A beautiful colour spectrum of people from all over the map, united by music and its warm embrace. Music isn't just an escape from the world's societal problems: it's part of the solution. Love these videos 🤙🤙🤙💜💜💜
When I was a kid I listened to this song on loop and still love it! The message was spot on then and beyond prevalent in today’s society. Thanks for reacting to this, more people should. ✌️
Had the great pleasure of seeing this band back in 91. It was funky, there was some punk, R&B, rock. At the end Cory sang an incredible version of Amazing Grace! Vernon Reed, the guitarist, was phenomenal.
Please, react to the black 70s proto-punk band Death song "Politicians In My Eyes." They only had one release, but they are praised for help creating punk. Also watch their documentary "A Band Called Death."
Seeing these videos again brings back such good memories! Saw these dudes live at the very first Lollapalooza in 1991. In the middle of an already amazing day of music, they melted all our faces off and we loved every minute. Aahahaha yeah I'm old 😪 And hey, we actually saw 2 more all-black rock bands there too, Fishbone and Bodycount (Ice-T fronted the band. You might check them out - along with Bad Brains, as everyone has already commented lol). Both bands KILLED IT. Rollins Band and Butthole Surfers played first that day, but it was Bodycount who started the first mosh pits! Violent Femmes, Siouxsie and the Banshees and Jane's Addiction also played. Such an amazing day! The 90s was a pretty good time to be young :)
Yo, Bruh! I am thoroughly enjoying your Living Colour reactions. If you got one more in you, you should totally react to "The Solace Of You" by Living Colour. It's got a totally different sound--kind of reggae-ish, but really shows the versatility of the band, and especially of lead guitarist Vernon Reid. It's so dope; and I guarantee that you're gonna love it!!!
Type is another awesome song from this kick ass band. I love the hard rock soul groove of this song. Plus a very deep message in the lyrics. There is so much to dig into in this one song. I was so into this band back in the day. Try reacting to their song Nothingness. That has a different vibe to it, but very good. Great reaction!
Too bad I didn't read further down in the comments. I just suggested the same thing. I suggested "Dogman". I should have said "Over My Head" also their first song on MTV👍
OMG! LOVEit! I remember rocking out to this song at full blast! I grew up being labelled, ‘weird’, ‘traitor’, ‘whitewashed’ because I loved pop and rock music. I could never understand how others couldn’t hear the soul I could feel in it. Rock on Living Colour!💜❤️👍🏿👏🏿
Need to do some reactions to King's X. Living Color's favorite band. The only mistake they made was having King's X open for them which I seen many many years ago. King's X stole the show! Nobody wanted Kings X to open for them because they were that good. One of the best live bands I've ever seen. You could start with "Dogman"👍
I saw Living Colour on the 1991 Lollapalooza tour, follow up after Ice-T/Body Count! Then, after that was Nine Inch Nails, Siouxsie & The Banshees and Jane's Addiction! Legendary show/tour.
I saw them at The Bronco Bowl on the tour where they had Kings X opening. Holy crap that was great. It was the tour for Time's Up I do believe.. or maybe the Biscuits EP had come out. I later saw them at Lollapalooza. Corey walking out into the crowd for the "you've got to fight for your neighborhood" refrain was one of the most powerful live concert moments I've seen.
I'll never forget when these guys came over to the UK. I along with some mates had heard them on vinyl(yep that long ago lol) and got the chance to see them live, SO glad I went, absolutely blew us away ,still one of the best bands I've ever seen!
First time seeing your channel. I really enjoyed your reaction to this song and I'm glad that this wonderful band, comprised of some very talented Black men made you feel a bit more like part of the metal community. I was fortunate enough, in my late teens, to see Living Colour play a local gig when I lived in England. They were incredible! Their music and messages helped open my eyes a little wider. I've not listened to them for a long time, but think it's high time I rectified that.
Thank you so much for taking my suggestion on this song. It’s one of my favorite songs by them and reminds me why I fell in love with them when they first came out. Even though this is off their second album, they just seemed to get better as they progressed. This album as a whole (“Time’s Up”) is a work of art with incredible messages in each and every song.
Living Colour should have been as big as the Beatles, they had serious messages. Voluntary self segregation and involuntary segregation kept them from making it big. Lots of black kids walled themselves off from rock music, just like most white kids back then walled themselves off from rap, radio stations separated music based on assumed listener preferences. It sucks because their influence could have been so much more powerful to so many more people if they would have made it to everyone's ears. Listen to the whole Stain record when you are done with Living Colour reactions as a treat for yourself.
I’m so happy you found this band. So glad you feel apart of the rock world. You are a power for inclusion. Together we can change the world. Use your power. Love ya
With the Spectrum gold package, there are 3 MTV channels. The cool channel you're looking for is MTV Classic. On Saturday nights from 11 PM to 6 AM PT, the have "I Want My 80's". Only 1980's videos, it's my happy place.
So glad you found them. Huge influence for me, as well as THEIR influences! I wish there were more like these guys who break the mold and rise above the mundane...
Seen them 3 times in concert. Happened to catch them two summers ago. Still put on a great live show. Corey ran up into the crowd to get them hyped. So fun to watch you discover them. It was fun following them back then. These dudes were ground breaking. Didn't shy away from political lyrics and black identity. These brothers changed the game. Still don't get enough kudos for originality and carrying on Hendrix's rock legacy. Corey could sang his ass off. Vernon is a guitar god 🎸 Funk/R&B fusion with hard rock. Elvis has left the building!
I enjoy Living Colour all these decades & obtained each album as they were released starting with their first release Vivid to their latest release Shade. Time's Up (1990) is my favorite from their discography.
Mi banda favorita . recuerdo fui a su presentación en el estadio Víctor Jara . ex estadio chile . potencia total . entrega total . pese que eramos unos pocos . que locura !!!!
It's a boot stomper. Missed out on these videos when you put them out - so glad you did some of their songs. Had a big impact on me, and i can't believe how under rated they are. Thanx again
I gotta say.. I knew this band but only knew the song Cult of Personality. Watching your reaction video and looking through the comments, i took a deep dive into there catalog and happy to report, ITS FANTASTIC!!
Can't beat Living Colour. When I was 15 they were my favourite band in the world. I was a drummer so I was so into Time's Up. Met them at a signing in a record store. Cool guys. Great band.
Love this band, got to see them open for The Stones on The Steel Wheels Tour. Can't believe no one has recommended Love Rears Its Ugly Head. Such a jazzy, funky, soulful bowl of lusciousness. Corey's vocals are top notch, probably best to listen to the official video, for the audio quality.
Right on Jamel, knew you'd love this one! Singer Cory Glover is Danny Glover's son. It's awesome how he rocks out and has the r&b and gospel licks at the base of it! Huge fan here of Living Color!
I love that you’re getting into living Colour They are one of my all-time favorite bands, the next song you need to react to is desperate people. Corey Glover’s voice in this track is insane
Seriously one of the best rock bands ever, and Time’s Up is a masterpiece.
Agreed. The entire recording from start to finish is just too epic for most to handle
One should really listen to their newer stuff as well! That same variety and soul is still there.
Gus Lakis Absolutely 100%
I know that the title track is a masterpiece...the rest of the album is just pretty good....wait, "Solace of You" is amazing...(my bad)

Listen to Skunk Anansie “selling Jesus”
Living Colour should have been as big as the Beatles, they had serious messages.
Voluntary self segregation and involuntary segregation kept them from making it big. Lots of black kids walled themselves off from rock music, just like most white kids back then walled themselves off from rap, radio stations separated music based on assumed listener preferences. It sucks because their influence could have been so much more powerful to so many more people if they would have made it to everyone's ears.
Listen to the whole Stain record when you are done with Living Colour reactions as a treat for yourself.
Thanks for doing this. It's really joyful to see someone else experience something you love for the first time.
I’m so happy you found this band. So glad you feel apart of the rock world.
You are a power for inclusion. Together we can change the world. Use your power. Love ya
This makes me really miss Mtv.
With the Spectrum gold package, there are 3 MTV channels. The cool channel you're looking for is MTV Classic. On Saturday nights from 11 PM to 6 AM PT, the have "I Want My 80's". Only 1980's videos, it's my happy place.
When MTV really was about music.
Original MTV.
React to “unlocking the truth” they are a young all black band
Those kids are great but somehow can't get a deal inked I don't even know if they're still around?
Gerald Tull yea I don’t know what’s going on but they are a great band, hopefully they will work something out
Dayum- what a great voice Corey Glover has! And that driving bass line! Whooooo!
So glad you found them. Huge influence for me, as well as THEIR influences! I wish there were more like these guys who break the mold and rise above the mundane...
Stop f*cking around and do "TIME'S UP" LIVING COLOUR. Seriously, "TIME'S UP!"
I’m SO with you Anthony Bilello!
There are so many f*cking. Great LIVING COLOUR Tracks
Time's up, the Lord is calling.....
I'm a black brother that went to HS in the Rock vs. Disco era. I went to a HS where there were fights over it. Since I liked both, I was safe, lol
I am pride and happy to have seen them live in my home country Sweden..One of my favorit bands💪🏻😎👍🏻
my all time favorite from these guys - they were so good and Corey's voice is incredible
You’re the best Jamel! Living Colour is special. Always touched by your reactions. Stay healthy and well. - b. 🎼🎧🙏
I enjoy Living Colour all these decades & obtained each album as they were released starting with their first release Vivid to their latest release Shade. Time's Up (1990) is my favorite from their discography.
So glad you're discovering Living Colour. They were a huge influence on me as a teen. And continue to be so
You have to see them live, are something else!
Just watching you react while I rock out to these guys makes my day! Keep it coming Jamel.
Mi banda favorita . recuerdo fui a su presentación en el estadio Víctor Jara . ex estadio chile . potencia total . entrega total . pese que eramos unos pocos . que locura !!!!
YESSSS!!!! Very underrated song. Predicted the future.
Imagine hearing this 32 years ago....
Deep dive those lyrics. Enlightening.
I love em man. Great band, and so underrated. And still out there making great, meaningful music
Thanks for doing these guys. Cult Of Personality is one of my all time favorites, but I didn't appreciate their other songs when I was younger.
Great band. Seen them many times. They still are putting out great records. They are an awesome live band.
This band was huge for years and still going one of the very best ever
Right on Jamel, knew you'd love this one! Singer Cory Glover is Danny Glover's son. It's awesome how he rocks out and has the r&b and gospel licks at the base of it!
Huge fan here of Living Color!
I love that you’re getting into living Colour They are one of my all-time favorite bands, the next song you need to react to is desperate people. Corey Glover’s voice in this track is insane
Very good call.
A great tune from a great time for music. I miss the creativity. Love these guys.
love em. Im a Rush Fanatic since 12 years old and felt Rush in Living Colors music. Loved and still the message they sing.
LC got a LOT of play on KROQ in Los Angeles in the early 90's...great musicians! Love these guys ..they rocked it!
Hell yeah!
LOVE this tune, brings me back in time.....
Man I love this track. Have for decades... I've always loved Corey Glover's voice and Vernon Reid's guitar is just off the hook.
Living Colour- This Is The Life and Funny Vibe are phenomenal as well. I recommend checking out both of those, very underrated!
Haha been through three straight Living Colour reaction vids with you and now I'm a fan. So cool to find good new to me music, thanks Jamel 🤘👊✌
