I am speechless with Rami Malek performance especially the live aid concert which made me not blink for that moment, it's like i forgot i actually wasn't watching real Freddie, but he nailed the character so much...
Rami did a great job, but a few notes made it glaringly obvious that it wasn't Freddy. I'm glad they chose to use an "amalgamation of different voices", though. With a mix of a few different voices, it feels less like they just stole Freddy's voice.
Remi did beautifully. That's why it doesn't bother me about the contacts. He said with the contacts in, he couldn't portray the emotion he wanted to. He was brilliant!
Why can't people enjoy this? Its not like its a documentary, Yes the story isn't accurate but some points are. Critics and die hard fans take the fun out of this movie (again not a documentary)
Ive watched it at least 20 times and ill watch it again. Queen has been my fav rock band since the 70s and still are today. There will never be a group like them. I loved Freddie so much I would've changed myself into a man for him. Lol
My wife and I are 62. We saw this last night. Yes, we noticed some timeline variations. Those did not matter. The film was brilliant. We left with tears in our eyes. Bravo!
Maurice Hilarius OMG. I was crying for like the last hour!! I was so moved by him and his dedication to his friends and then how his father hugged him. I broke down then. Hopefully one day we will all have acceptance as human beings no matter how we live!!!
Thanks for the warning, I'm almost 62 and hope to see the movie this week. I had it all bought to see it in IMAX and then had a migraine. I'll get there
The biggest problem was the lead actor couldnt hide his speech handicap so he sounded like his shy character from Mr.Robot at several time. His physicalical acting was top notch, but if he cant overcome his speech deficiency he will never be a good voice actor.
I loved this movie- it’s not a documentary so I knew that it wouldn’t full on be what happened. The end product was very well and I’m happy how it came out. The actors did well to introduce Queen to younger generations.
What I loved by far the most about the movie was how it dealt with Freddie's sexuality and his diagnosis. They were parts of his story, but they didn't define him. His musical talent and personal relationships defined him. I'm a little too young to have experienced the peak of the band's success. But I'm still old enough to remember the AIDS craze and how Freddie was always reduced to his diagnosis by the press. This movie finally did him justice.
@@KuopioKallavesi I think there's a difference between living your truth (including your sexuality) and being defined by it. He's not a gay man first and foremost, but that's what the media made of him. They used it because it meant *deviance* and that sold well. He owns his sexuality, his sexuality doesn't own him.
Everyone’s talking about the movies recreation of the Live Aid performance, and for good reason! That scene brought the Live Aid performance to the big screen. It gave those of us who never had a chance to attend that iconic performance a small taste of what it must have been like. That scene was hands down my fav.
I worked on Bohemian Rhapsody and met Rami Malek. He was in character and he was freakishly good. I played a bouncer at one of the club scenes. I couldn’t wait to see the finished movie. I loved it! As with all legends, it’s not 100% accurate, but it doesn’t matter. It’s about the message and the story and how it makes you feel. I was in tears of emotional exhaustion at the end, but I was so uplifted too. Just a brilliant film.
I dont usually reply to comments on RUclips but i saw it tonight, it was a magical film. I am a queen fan geek and watched so many shows and documentarys tho wish i had the chance to see queen live for real but i saw adam lambert and queen and that was just as good. God bless your work on this film. And thank you for helping bringing it to life. :)
You helped on the movie? Omg I'm so in awe of you! Question.....the only thing that bothered me, which I've not heard anyone say, is the baggie under eyes of Malek. That's bothered me in every video I've seen. Did ANYONE address that, making the show? Or have you heard anyone say anything on this? Am I the only one that's noticed this? I'm so obsessed with Freddie that when I see the movie I'll cry the whole way through! Rami better win the Oscar for this one! Sir...to you, I'm not worthy! Any other tidbits for me? Tell!!!
Tommo BCPT exactly me too! I’ve been balling my eyes out, singing along and so happy to see Freddy become the great man he was (as played by Rami Malek). I bet it was awesome to meet him! He sure is a great actor!
Kim Anderson Moore I’ve not heard anybody say anything about that tbh, I didn’t even notice myself. It was one of the first movies I worked on and I was just a big excited kid! Rami came over and just shook my hand and said hello, he seemed very nice and was very professional. I think he deserves some serious recognition for his amazing performance in this. It was an honour to be a small part of it.
The number of comments stating that it's not a documentary.. like an echo chamber in here. Just because you like something doesn't mean it shouldn't be criticized. The movie was made for the fans, so their opinion counts. And accuracy counts too.
as a fan that remembers Live Aid and MTV , I went into the movie realizing that at least a decade of important events would need adjustments to fit into 2 hours....Rami didn't look exactly like Freddie, but he moved like him,and perfected his mannerisms, that was more important to make the role watchable.Critics be damned. It was an amazing movie! the people in the theater were singing along, and we were crying, and arms up for Radio GaGa....at the end we clapped and cheered!! We had Freddie back with us for a tiny bit, and if this movie doesn't sweep the Oscars then is is a crime against the 70s and 80s and rock and roll .~~ See it,you will not be sorry!!
So you don't understand how the Oscars work. The awards are given to preselected movies that were made to push social agendas. Ever notice how the awards never go to what people actually liked most? Because it's not about the people, it's self congratulation, a Hollywood award show to glorify themselves with that they fool people like you into caring about.
Not surprising, as they got Anita Dobson to play him. His voice is dubbed by Peter Serafinowitz, whose speciality is impersonating people nobody knows what they sound like.
yeh and you can tell that they were involved because they made themselves look like angels and made Freddie look like an ego-centric untalented hothead who needed them to be successful, all while butchering his history to make one of the most bland and boring films I've ever seen.
This movie was so good. I encourage everyone who’s old enough to watch that movie. The camera angles in the movie, specifically during the live aid concert, were absolutely revolutionary! The camera following his fingers playing the piano and the between the legs shot was just awesome! SUCH. A good movie. They need to win every single award!
Ellie Shaw don’t get me wrong, that was good too. But Bohemian Rhapsody is better just based on the cameras, songs, and general story of a real band over a love story of two people who happened to be artists. It’s just a different movie altogether. But Lady Gaga was insane in that movie. Really well done
As one of the biggest queen fans I know I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and thought it was one of the best I had seen in a good while. Knowing all the history I still loved that my favorite band got a movie. Despite the inaccuracies (not every biopic can be perfect) it showed the up and down struggle of a broken man not knowing how to take care of himself. I love it so much
I think it makes him look extremely steange, which is suppose he was, but not in a nice way in some scenes. The ones with Mary Austin in the middle, make him look like a controlling stalker. Though the film has the most romantic line ever on screen, shame its the most romantic split up ever. My wife says I don't have a romantic bone, but god damn, when they are sat I'm the couch and he says "10s of thousands singing to you Mary" , even my stone Heart beated once.
Also the if you’re a true queen fan you picked up on all the little things they got right, the picture of Marlene Dietrich above his mantle (the picture that inspired the shadowy artwork for bohemian rhapsody), and how in his early career his mic stand broke off and he liked it so used it like that for the rest of his career, all of his cats (13 at one point), his style, Brian’s guitar, they’re experimental techniques... sooooo much stuff they got right, if you’re a true queen fan you’d understand if you want straight facts go watch a documentary, but if you want average people to go to the movies to see a Hollywood production so they can meet Freddie and queen, they couldn’t have done a better job in my opinion.. my biggest fear was they were going to “straight wash” Freddie’s life and not dig deep enough into his gay life.. but they executed that perfectly.. the average person is not going to watch a documentary and the things they did change wouldn’t make average people think anything less of Freddie and queen, perfect movie
When I first heard not everything in the movie was accurate, I was a little disappointed. I went in seeing this movie, knowing Queen's music, loving Queen's music, but that was it. I was really hoping to learn about Freddie and Queen's story. I, of course, loved the movie, and I still do, but when I heard some stuff wasnt true I got a little sad. But here's my opinion on it now: I thought, honestly, (from reading comments of people saying this) that Brian May and Roger Taylor werent telling the truth when helping out with the movie. That they were lying to make Freddie look bad or whatever. I was so angry and disappointed. I then delved into research, and I watched tons of interviews. I wanted to know if the cast knew that it wasnt accurate. Thinking about this now, obviously they would know Queen's story. They did months of research to become and capture the essence of these legends, SURELY they would know. There was one interview that I feel like answered all of my questions. Rami talked about how chronologically, it wasnt correct but they did that to add dramatization for the movie. The way they had it ordered for the movie made it more emotional for those who dont know Queen's story. I mean, I wanted to ball my eyes out. And theres only so much they can fit into a 2 hour movie. For those who were already die hard queens fans I understand why you'd would be upset, but I believe that this movie wasnt supposed to be one that talks about Freddie's private life and the dark side of everything. It wanted to celebrate his life and Queen's legacy. It wanted to show how they made these iconic songs. No, it wasnt completely accurate, but it still told facts. I think the most inaccurate thing was the order of events, and they did that to make it more dramatic. The way some of the stuff happened wasnt completely accurate either, like how Freddie met Jim and Mary and how Queen became Queen, but it still told their story. Plus if Brian and Roger thought it was good, then why be so critical of it? Ultimately, its their story, and even if you are angry with how this movie turned out, you are gonna have to get over it. Their story was told how they thought it should be told and we cant do anything about it. At least it wasnt put into the hand of someone who didnt know Queen at all (which Brian mentioned in a video I saw of him. They had to do it before someone else did). All we can hope is that Freddie, from heaven, is looking down proud. I hope John enjoyed it too.
@@Xlovesmaryse Search the Magic Years ruclips.net/video/BQyi_8eHz58/видео.html or Freddie Mercury the Untold story ruclips.net/video/eN9XRzEYC0c/видео.html which are accurate sources. However, enjoy the film if only for the music and the wonderful acting performances.
No movie will ever do Freddie 100% justice. He & his story are a complete enigma almost stranger than fiction. But Rami Malek nailed the essence of him. Uncanny. Goosebumps through the entire film & even after. I LOVED this movie! And what a sad, tragic, beautiful love story between he & the band AND he & Mary. I want to see it again.
What I really like about this video is that she clearly understands the nature of biopics. Biopics are never 100% accurate because in order to fit real life events into an organized narrative, events need to be rearranged, taken out, or embellished. Great video!
i am very twitchy with "band movies", but this movie reach my feelings, i like this movie and the malek's mercury interpretation, was great. i can't say no.
As true Queen Fan, the movie was a little cheesey. The wigs --- looked like wigs- They never sweated on stage- The stage setup did not look like a REAL stage- very proppy. FACTS and details of Queen were all over the place with timelines. REALLY? Movie should of been shot grainier- with more of a dark side- and with a Director who did more of 70's nostalgic props and sets. it looked more like a Waynes world set. Horrible Photography. Reminded me of that DEF Leppard Cheesey movie.
@@Dozereyes agree with you. The real, good Queen movie still waits to be made. Giving Freddie the tribute he deserves and show him like he really was. There was so much fear of Brian & Roger to make it authentic, it really lacks the drive and daring Freddie had. Only Borat would have been able to portray that. Brian & Roger chickened out.
rami malek said he didn’t want to wear coloured contacts to change the colour of his eyes as he thought that he wouldn’t be able to show emotions well with them in
I was about to say, Rami wore red contacts in Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2 (where he played Benjamin from the Egyptian Vampire Coven), so I wondered why he didn’t do so for this movie. Good to know the reasoning! Can’t wait to see it! My mom is a huge Queen fan so I have watched a few documentaries with her, this was on our list as soon as we saw the trailer!
I honestly loved the movie. The time line changes really didn’t bother me because it didn’t seem like that was the movies focus. It seemed to focus on his character and the bands chemistry rather than an actual timeline of how everything happened. And to make Live Aid an excellent emotional ending, I don’t think continuing the movie to see a scene where he breaks the news to the band would have been a smart decision.
This was my era: was there in the late 60's, throughout the 70's and afterward. None of the issues brought up in this video bothers me one bit. We loved Queen for the music, not for their personal lives. We all had our own drama and listened to music to escape it, so we cared not a bit about details of the band. The movie was a very well played, feel-good movie and I have watched it several times to make sure I was not just caught up in a moment of nostalgia that would bias my opinion. Nope, I really loved the movie and they all put together a movie that will be watched for some years in the future. A big thanks to all who did so.
It was their movie. They were executive producers. That means they either put up, or raised the money to make it. I would assume they had a lot of say so in how it was done. They have plenty of reason to be pleased with how it turned out. Excellent job by all involved.
I like seeing the differences. Although I don't take offense at all in the changes. It's a film, not a documentary. So it's ok to change a few things for a better storytelling effect
Your not a huge Queen fan, period. If thas how you feel I was pissed off and I'm just a fan not a huge fan like say Nazereth, anybody really into Queen would be like wtf. anyone into movies and fiction and good stories will like this, its a good story just untrue.
joseph macauley oh sorry, are you the Queen fan police? Hahaha Geez. Queen has been my favorite band ever since I was a kid. It was the first band I listened to and listed it as my favorite band in every quiz I ever filled. Lol. But being a fan is not a competition. Other fans know a lot more about the background history, yeah. But I still knew a lot of things and knew some things were different when I watched the film. But I knew it was a film. So I didn't get mad. If there was a documentary and they change things or a book, that's different. It's not so much about being a fan, more of you expectations when watching a film based on something. It's like Hamilton the musical. They changed so much, to fit the story. And that's fine! I still learned a lot about American history from watching it, especially the research I did into the differences to facts and that's where I learned a lot more.
@@easilyoffended7772 And of course, its just subjective. To me, these amount of changes were ok. But if they had changed eeeverthing or left out important themes entirely, then I wouldn've liked it.
it might be a film, but its supposed to be based on REAL events, that the film makers change around for convenience. Thats wrong. By that token you can just rewritte history for the big screen whenever you feel like it.
there's always a negative statement somewhere, jeez... I agree 100% Keelin McCoy, Rami did a most awesome job, I really can't think of a better actor to do this
I’m a Rami Malek fan for life, due to how well he portrayed Freddie! I wish I could thank him to his face for doing such an amazing job! I feel the same way about the rest of the cast!
Schmidteren, I own the DVD! It’s one of my absolute favourite movies of all time. It never gets old. I thought Jim Carry should have been nominated for an Oscar and Kate as well. Just so inventive, thought provoking, transcendent. Maybe they were but didn’t win. Have you seen A Single Man? Colin Firth stars in it and it was directed by Tom Ford. It’s just beautiful in every way.
I went to the theatre yesterday and i have to say, this is a truly magnificent movie. Great casting, with almost all actors doing fantastic performances, especially Rami as Freddy Mercury, who probably was a tough character to play as. What people need to remember is, that this wasn't a Documentary. This was a biopic and biopics always dramatize certain things, because drama and conflict is the essence of a movie.
exactly! they still have to make a movie and tell a story that fits the movie format. and since the members of queen agreed that it was good i think thats enough
Thank you for this video. I saw Queen in 1977, my first concert, and I was in awe of "We Will Rock You", especially the way they engaged the crowd to help them to perform the song. I scraped together my allowance and bought News of the World the next day. While watching the movie, I looked at my husband and said, that's wrong... I saw that song live in 1977. I understand that a movie needs to be compacted to a mere 2 hours, but some facts need to remain true. The actors portraying the band were spot-on and a small thing like eye color did not phase me. Bohemian Rhapsody brought out all the emotions for me, I cannot wait to purchase a copy to watch over and over again.
Hello!! I'm a teenager who recently saw this movie with my parents, and while of course things were wrong, my parents would agree that it wasn't too big of a deal, as it still managed to get points across without running out of time. It sort of reminded me of The Buddy Holly Story, or La Bamba, with all the facts crammed in to get as much information in as possible. While of course some things were wrong, it still have the same outcomes and made great films^^
Great story.. I also saw them in 1978 in Oakland, California my first concert ever at age 14. Bought the Album after and still have to this day. Such a powerful experience to see Queen live !
I bet Freddie would have loved the bit where he has to beg cap in hand to the great Brian May so they could get back together again. All because of his greed for money and solo success, especially when you consider Freddie was the third member of the band to have a solo album and they hadn’t actually split up. I don’t care about changing stuff for dramatic purposes but I do care about making the dead member of the band look like a bad guy in a movie which wouldn’t even exist without him.
Lol I just saw the movie and Freddie never became the bad guy to me. It was that Paul guy I was pissed at. Claiming to want to take care of Freddie then doing him in like that. Psshh.😤
@@HudaefCares True i read up on it earlier after watching it Freddy got rid of Paul Prenter in 86' and Prenter gave an interview (instead of the tv interview in 85') to the Sun in 87' and damned Freddy in that interview so he was still a bad guy.
It’s a good point but the film highlights that Freddie’s poor decisions were directly made from Paul’s influence. So I don’t ever see it as Freddie being the bad guy, he was just listening to somebody he trusted at the time. And when he realizes that Paul was lying to him and manipulating him, Freddie goes back to his normal self with the band. That’s how I see it at least.
Huh, never heard of being allergic to contacts, but I guess that could make sense. If you don’t wear contacts regularly I could also see it just being amazingly uncomfortable and hard to work with, or the colored ones making it hard to be expressive with your eyes. Many different possible reasons. (Though i think mostly it’s because it’s just not that important a detail)
@@williamnikolic224 What killed me, was the very end how he played we are the champions, just the lyrics almost letting on that he's about to die. I was crying then jammed to the credits of dont stop me now
Me too, I loved the movie, a little crying, a little laughing, and a lot of wanting to stand up and sing. 😁 I loved the movie. I thought they were all really good in their roles. And as the movie progressed Rami looked more and more like Freddie. 😊😊😊 loved it.
as many of the comments have said, this is a great video that doesn’t point out nit picky flaws but actually connects more dots about events in the movie. glad i watched this after seeing the (incredible) movie!
It won't.. It's not a Screenwriters guild movie, and as such they seem to prefer US trash instead... I can see Black Panther getting it, although it's Marvel trash but since Stan Lee died, they'll honor him with an Oscar after his death... Should A star is born win it, i'll be forever disappointed about a remake of a remake winning an oscar. Costumes and make up might be where Bohemian Rhapsody has a chance, but not in best movie.
The movie wasn’t meant to dwell on his drama! It meant to share how he was a musical genius! That’s why it’s called BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY (his masterpiece) and not Farrokh Bulsara. There’s a line in the film that says he doesn’t want to be the poster child for HIV and AIDS. Sure the movie touches on his personal life but that wasn’t the main point.
Except there is a little known masterpiece that preceded BoRap called "The March of the Black Queen" that came out in 1974 that laid the groundwork for that later song. Completely overlooked, why?
It's almost as if the plot of the movie fits with the song it is named after. "Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?" The song tells a very true story with fictional details - so I feel that is what this movie represents. It tells a real story in the way Freddie would have wanted to tell it. "Its all about presentation, darlings!"
@@SusanKaller Sorry, but Malek is extremely handsome. I've been a huge fan ever since I saw Night at the Museum and I think everyone who saw that movie had a crush on him.
It is what it is: the story of Queen and the world's greatest drama-queen. The changes are okay. It's a movie. Not a documentary. Everything relevant was told. And all of the performances were great.
Its all lies and bullshit. They all left none of this shit happened this way, none of the time is right its based on a few things thats it, Brian May made the band look great and Freddie look like a jerkoff very uncool and fiction.
Not everything was wrong. And if you want a bloody documentary watch a documentary. According to the ones I know who met him he was an asshole. A very talented one. He was more concerned about his cats than anyone and anything else.
For a movie about cats, I don’t see many cats! Where’s; Dorothy, Tiffany, Tom, Jerry, Goliath, Lily, Miko, Oscar, Romeo and ,of course, Delilah? 🐈(Oscar)
I too would have watched it no matter the length. I just wish they had been more accurate. I realize it's a movie and not a documentary but some of the facts were just so far off that it took away from it just a little. I'm glad I went and I'll go to every movie/documentary made about Queen or Freddie.

I hope they release an extended cut on BluRay for the hardcore fans.
Movie was excellent. I enjoyed every moment of it..... and yes I picked up right away on the sequences we will rock you playing live (year did not make sense) and the fat bottom girl inaccurate timeline. Rami did a killer performance it and I'm glad my kids watched it too and enjoy it as well.
Good on you man! We can't allow this history to be lost. Kids need to see it and hear the music and be a part of it. So important for the world in the future.
You see coke on a table, gay kiss, characters smoking. Other than that no real cursing that I saw. No nudity. There was a montags scene where you saw some people in bondage gear quickly. It was meant to imply his parties were pretty wild.
Adri O let me ask you this would you take your kid to see a movie about guns and roses there is bound to be some adult content or are you just asking because Freddie was gay?
I was in tears at the movies , i guess it was because it feld like Freddy was a lonesome person, , even he was surronded by a lot of people. What a shame.. so young to die... :(
@@easilyoffended7772 Hi there :) yes, that may be true, fact is that Freddy Died much to young. And So what if it wasn't chronicle in order, his friends let the movie happening... in honor of Freddy. Rami Malek did a great job to bring the emotions to the public hahaha! (and i am a cry baby) lol :p
@@AraKing Well the reality is its a good story it's just not the Queen story they don't even meet that way. I'm not concerned if it's well acted but they took i mean the outline of a few facts mixed it in with lies and made a story and called it Queen. I agree Freddy died way to young, I just can't believe they are acting like this is Queen and its not what happened or even the facts they do stretch aren't in order. They made Freddie out to be the problem and he was not. he didn't even have Aids then I mean whose story are we telling here, well I guess were calling it Queen.
@N F You know absolutely Dick about Queen then did you even hear the video They changed the timeline, how they met, acted like Freddy broke up the band, if you think this is the story to Queen, your in denial. They did not meet this way, there was no build up, Freddy didn't even break the band up fuck they didn't meet this way. They were on tour during live aid NONE OF IT IS TRUE. And the guy looks nothing absolutely nothing like Freddy. It's just a story about a band and they slapped the name on it. Leaving out facts is the same thing as what? Lying, like ya know if your wife doesn't tell you after your married she fucked someone, but said it was before and instead of the ugly idiot it was a model Harvard Grad I'm sure that has happened to you so get what I'm saying. Do some research Freddy didn't know he had Aids til 87' this just isn't the story of Queen that's a fact not a debate I grew up with Queen. It's a keep your interest kind of touching story that Brian would most likely want to believe cause he's a dickhead but a fabrication all the same.
I gotta admit, I was expecting another video of some critic being nit picky and whiny, but you bring up good points and credit the producers of the movie with plausible theories as to their decisions. Bravo!
Good video, it wasn't an annoying rant, 'i hate it because they changed things', it was a good explanation as to why they did it and how this works out better, rather than just critising everything. Keep it up
@bojo perez what the hell? there's a difference between being realistic and being outlandish. even though the events in the movie aren't 100% accurate they're realistic and make up for a good story.
For all of you complaining that the movie didn't completely tell Freddie's story, it's not a documentary. It's not meant to capture the complete story of his life, plus the movie had plenty of details about his life. If you want his full life story, watch a documentary. Lol um ok didn't mean to start a controversy so nm srry
I don't care about the inaccuracies, I'm complaining because the movie was shit. At least other music biopics are pleasingly formulaic, but this movie is just pathetic.
I love the movie and I really appreciate how it emphasized Freddie's incredible talent and energy and the band's music. I'm glad that they didn't emphasize many of the things in Freddie's private life that would have filled the movie with seamy things that had nothing to do with the band's incredible talent and their contributions to the world!
For every video or article pointing out the inaccuracies in a biopic there's a hundred people who willingly clicked on it just to point out that it's not a documentary. I might ask you why you're complaining. It's like a braindead echo chamber. WHAT is wrong with pointing out where a biopic differs from the events it's based on? NO ONE has given me an answer to this. Because there isn't. People believe what's in a biopic. What are they supposed to do, google every single event that's portrayed on screen individually (because listicles compiling inaccuracies are now verboten). That's why people write these things. Believe it or not, some people actually want to know how the movies differ from real life. So those articles are for them, not you. Basically you're saying Hollywood should be given free reign to rewrite history for the sake of money. No.
Mary didn't get pregnant before Live Aid. She didn't have a baby until 1990 and was four months pregnant with her second child when Freddie died. There's a video showing Freddie playing with Mary's first son on Freddie's last Christmas in 1990. They may have thrown in the wrong timeline on Mary's pregnancy to show she had to move on or hint Freddie may have had regrets he never had a child with her. As much as they did put Mary in the film it still didn't touch on his love and devotion to her and how much he needed her. She didn't jump in and out of his life. She was the only constant he could count on as a friend thorough his life.
@@TheWarforged Lighten up. We all know they had to play with the timeline because Freddie lived such an incredible life it would take a five-day movie to even begin to show how much life he packed into 45 short years. View the movie anyway you want. As Freddie said, Darling, if you see it, it's there."
Debra Duerksen you can't expect it to be 100% accurate. After all the focus is on the band, not Freddie and Mary. I suggest watching the documentary /watch?v=_xipkQboBAE&t=1447s

@@sebastianpineda1058 I had the same feelings, too. Like he was the cause of most of the problems and all the others were so well-behaved and conservative family men.
@@zsuzsannabenke9966 Although they did show roger being a ladies man and stuff I still felt like Freddie was the one that caused more trouble. I think they did a good job by showing how lonely Freddie really was and how empty he felt with the people around him, they did portray his drug abuse, his alcoholism and his gay relationships very well. Also his struggles with sexuality and Mary Austin were there too, I guess what bothers me is I didn't feel a huge connection to the band, when they said they were a "family", I'm like...I dont really feel like that's the case but...ok. IDK I feel like I have to watch it again to really know how I feel about the movie. ALSO I HATED THOSE TIME JUMPS. Saw the movie last night. As a huge Queen fan, I thought they matched the actors to the band member very well. Years of Queen in a couple's hours of movie. Loved it!
This movie turned me into a die-hard Queen fan, and kind of formed a personal connection with Freddie. After a month of countless videos, articles, insta posts, I still can’t have enough of the god of rock. So thankful to this movie, to introduce Freddie in my life!
Since it already became obvious from the trailers that a correct timeline was not a priority in the making of this film I knew what I was in for when I went to see it and I thoroughly enjoyed the ride. I think it's very well made, there are very funny moments and of course very emotional ones. I like it. There are plenty of well made documentaries for people who want accuracy.
The thing is not everybody know (nor should they) Queen's full history. If it had something like "this movie was loosen based in real facts" it would be more honest.
Yeah, I think most fans can spot the glitches on We are the champions, and also Fat Bottomed Girls released on 1978, not like 1975-76....but the film is awesome so doesn't really matter.
Even with all these inaccuracies, I'll remember them seeing the film again and again, but it doesn't destroy the enjoyment cause the film is so damn good.
@@philingrouille7198 And because brian may and roger taylor worked on the film maybe they didn't want to include some of the details of their story because at the end of the day its a 2 hour film, you can't fit everything within that time slot.
@@RyanNicho1989 also, why bring freddy down just to have the drama that so many wanted. says something about the generations. unlike queen fans, they can't feel good without dragging down someone else.
Rami Malik deserves a best oscar for his portrayal of Mercury! His Live Aid performance was exact, right down to every little detail. Every movement, facial expression. Gave me chills! All the actors looked exactly like the band members and the story was so beautifully told. Deeply moving and incredible!
First he will have to learn to hide his speech handicap then. He sounded exactly like his character from Mr.Robot when speaking even though his physical action was completely different and top notch.
No big deal! Your issues will never alter the fact that Rami Malek gave an astounding performance as Freddie! And fans will still go to the theaters to watch the movie!
@@thepayne7862 i coudnt agree more. I do not understand why some people chose to highlight the small negative stuff. Rami's performance screams Oscars!
@@thepayne7862 i coudnt agree more. I do not understand why some people chose to highlight the small negative stuff. Rami's performance screams Oscars!
It didn’t bother me in fact it’s kind of fun they didn’t name the movie : Freddie Mercury’s documentary so it’s kind of ok .. I’ve enjoyed watching the film and I’ve cried soo much too .. they didn’t mess up the facts they just made it more dramatic and lovable ^^
Queen say its more about the band than Freddie well meant to be .. even though I would love to see an actual film of Freddie still a great movie but t hats why it wasn't named after Freddie because it more about the band and it's transitions and hard knock living on the road and hard times the band had fell on.
All I know is that movie is damn good and Remi Malik oh my God he was Freddie Mercury there is nothing whatsoever to criticize about this movie I would see it again and again I love Freddy and he was Freddie to me
I came out of the cinema 2 hours ago and I'm still smiling. We all clapped when the movie finished, most of us had been singing during the whole thing. We walked out of the room all excited making comments to each other and we had never met before entering the cinema. I was in the bus back home feeling like my feet weren't touching the ground. And that's how much I care about the changes
Another inaccuracy is the fact that the band actually encouraged Freddie to make a solo album whereas in the movie we see them fight over it and then break up (temporarily).
Another one: Looking at the autobiographical book "Mercury and Me", Jim says that they met in a gay bar, and Jim neither know that Freddy was a famous guy.
I was wondering about that as well. It was kind of funny how they put Jim in the movie and the way they met in the movie. Even though it wasn't the case. Still a good scene.
Although the film is different to what actually happened, I still adore the film. I saw it 3 times in a row. Big congratulations to Rami for splendid performance on being Freddie Mercury
As a Queen biography, the movie is a piece of crap. As a recreation of the band being live and a celebration of their live performances, the movie is incredible.
My Mum is a huge Queen fan* and she thought the same thing. I hadn't looked into the band's actual history- I am in the process of doing so now- but even I had a feeling something wasn't quite right about it, my Mum confirmed it the day after we went to see it. But as you said- the performances were absolutely astounding. And if the article I read was right, hats off to Mark Martell as well as the other actors. He did a lot of the singing apparently while Rami lip synced a lot but also sang! It was surely quite a complicated mix of Freddy the man himself, Martell and Malek. I don't know how accurate that is though? I was very interested to know who actually sang on the film and that's just what I found- an article stating: _"It's...complicated."_ * As am I. I grew up with them playing on tape from when I appeared in 1983! The performance in Montreal of "I'm in love with my car" (that I watched so many times on VHS the tape started wearing out and I wasn't allowed it anymore), combined with Meatloaf's Bat Out Of Hell and the Rocky Horror Picture Show is whole the reason I became a drummer and guitarist and am still musician today. I owe that band a lot in gratitude for igniting my love of music.
That’s cause the movie wasn’t meant to dwell on his drama!
@@rocionatalia3724 We still loved the film, we were just stating an opinion. I don't understand why you didn't post your comment separately if you didn't share our opinion- The video itself is saying the same thing as we did- we just agreed with the video, we didn't make it! If you are so passionate about it you have more chance of your opinion being seen and supported by making your own comment than telling people they're pretty much fools for agreeing with the content they just watched...
It's not the lack of drugs and AIDS what bothers many Queen fans, including me, but how many facts about the band, its origins, its creative process, its personal dynamics and many of the events that marked its history have been changed in a quite hideous way, mostly for dramatic effect, distracting from the truth and transforming an otherwise pretty fleshy story into a pretty formulaic and forced biopic. @@rocionatalia3724
Agreed but people are forgetting that there are so many important and monumental moments in queen’s history that the movie easily could have been 3 hours. So leaving stuff out and changing stuff had to happen so prevent that from happening. Great movie all in all tho
What annoyed me the most was the film made out that the other band members were outraged at Freddie for making a solo album, when as this video says, Roger Taylor had already made two. They show Freddie being made to beg and grovel to be allowed to rejoin the band so they could perform at Live Aid, when in fact they were all touring together shortly before. It also seems a little self serving on Brian and Roger’s part to make out they were clean living, faithful “good boys” and Freddie was the only hedonist. Whatever he did in private I think he was always professional and didn’t let his work suffer. I feel that Brian and Roger have become the guardians of Queen and Freddie’s legacy, while giving Freddie a bit of a kicking at the same time.
Thanks for saying this - I also commented along the same lines. Those who didn't know the history of Queen and Freddie's in particular will now think they know it. I was just discussing the movie at my hairdresser's today and people completely took the story to be accurate and when I mentioned certain parts that were particularly problematic, they were genuinely shocked to learn that the plot was 50% fabrication.
queenforever Thanks for your reply, you’re very welcome! Sorry, I didn’t see your earlier comment. You’re right that people who don’t know Queen’s story will take the film at face value when, as you say, much of it is made up. I can cope with the timeline being squashed and even events being moved around a bit to fit the running time. What really bugged me was towards the end when they just made stuff up. I felt that Brian and Roger (they were all over this project, after all) are trying to rewrite history, sometimes at Freddie’s expense and he isn’t able to answer back. The fact that they were supposed to be his friends and this film is meant as a tribute made it all the more galling.
Jamie Layton it’s supposed to be a biography isn’t it? Stick to the truth and don’t feed us all these lies. People who watch the movie actually believes that this is how things played out. Not cool. ”Based on real events” is what they should call it. Then I would be ok with it.
@@Wither81 Lol, "don't feed us all these lies" there's a lot of truth in the movie so "all these lies" seems a bit over the top to me 😁 It's like "grrrrhmmmmgrrrggg, they said it's not all true and then they put dramatized content in it - grrr 🤬 more swearwords, damn and double damn" 😂😂😂
These are all valid, yet superficial complaints against the movie......which is a movie. If you want hard facts watch a Documentary , of which there are many
Or... if YOU think that way be smart and dont watch a video that obviously talks about your glorified movie inaccuracies. You knew what the video was about, didnt you?
I hear that excuse all the time. To which I always answer: If you want to dramatize the real world, then invent protagonists instead of writing existing persons into situations they were never in. If you want to tell the story of how things went, stay with the facts. If life is not interesting enough for a two hour movie, then it is not worth making one out of it.
Fox RocksOn Orchestra Queens biggest obstacle to becoming far more popular than they were is because folkes called them a "fag" band. Queen only had two number one songs and four top 10 songs.
Especially as they were heavily involved. The film is a bit of a love letter to Freddie Mercury’s memory, in my opinion. I think that nitpicking it too heavily is a bit much. Especially, as some other commenters pointed out, that the film had to condense several decades into a few hours. It would make sense that a certain time frame within those decades would have the highlights and lowlights remixed so as to not feel rushed and that the overall story still feels organic and very true.
Except they're literally the ones behind everything wrong with the movie. They shot down making a deeper and darker film that truly explored Freddie because they didn't want to taint the band's image. They shy'd away from anything the would present any of them in any remotely negative light and turned the whole movie into basically an excuse to sell a greatest hits album.
DarthOliptius because they wanted it to be a movie for EVERYONE of all AGES to watch, not an R-rated film on a much beloved icon. And if you watch some of the interviews out there, you’d know that they DID film scenes of the darker moments and those are going to be in the extended cut when released to DVD.
Movie was great captured the essence of Freddie, the band and the time. Actors were all great. It was very British in feel and wit. Maybe that's why some of the USA critics just don't get it. They clapped at the cinema I saw it in, that doesn't happen often in Northern England. Malek was great as Mercury but I thought they had cloned Brian May. Oscar for Gwilym Lee please.
It wasn't just the usa critics, in fact many of those criticizing the film are the Brit critics themselves. Compare NMEs criticism of the film to Rolling Stone magazine. Spoiler Alert: It got rave reviews from Rolling Stone magazine.
they clapped tonight in Stockholm too, at the cinema where I saw the film. A very fine movie. Btw. not even documentaries can tell all the story. That is the way it is. A very very fine movie. Happy I saw it, in spite of negative critics one of the best experiences.
Nothing bothers me more than his eyes being different. Rami has certainly acted so well, he has impersonated brilliantly. It's just the eyes i wish were black.
Omg i thought i was the only one that bugged. Freddie had beautiful dark eyes and rami has gorgeous gray eyes. I wanted to yell put in some contacts. Eyes are the essence of a person. Windows to the soul as they say. It still bugs me 2 yrs later. His teeth weren't that big either. If you are going to portray someone as iconic as Freddie Mercury you should try to make yourself as close as possible
In a movie Freddie is seen smoking in 1975, before Bohemian Rhapdody. In real life he started smoking in 1981. Doesn’t really matter but gaught my eye..
I am speechless with Rami Malek performance especially the live aid concert which made me not blink for that moment, it's like i forgot i actually wasn't watching real Freddie, but he nailed the character so much...
irvanCrocs It was like i thought he was Freddie. Spectacular performance.
Rami did a great job, but a few notes made it glaringly obvious that it wasn't Freddy.
I'm glad they chose to use an "amalgamation of different voices", though. With a mix of a few different voices, it feels less like they just stole Freddy's voice.
Rami needs to WIN an award ... multiple awards. His performance was brilliant. He's come a long way since Night at the Museum.
Remi did beautifully. That's why it doesn't bother me about the contacts. He said with the contacts in, he couldn't portray the emotion he wanted to. He was brilliant!
Wow I felt completely opposite of his acting lol

Ellie Shaw don’t get me wrong, that was good too. As one of the biggest queen fans I know I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and thought it was one of the best I had seen in a good while. I think it makes him look extremely steange, which is suppose he was, but not in a nice way in some scenes. The ones with Mary Austin in the middle, make him look like a controlling stalker.
Though the film has the most romantic line ever on screen, shame its the most romantic split up ever.

SHAFFER TUBE the way I see it is if Brian and roger were fine with it, shouldn’t we be?
I totally agree!

I stayed until all the credits ended and I didn’t see it. When was it?

rami malek said he didn’t want to wear coloured contacts to change the colour of his eyes as he thought that he wouldn’t be able to show emotions well with them in
I was about to say, Rami wore red contacts in Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2 (where he played Benjamin from the Egyptian Vampire Coven), so I wondered why he didn’t do so for this movie.

He deserves a Oscar's and Grammy Awards! Period!
Brian and Roger both liked it. End of discussion.
Feeber Izer Of course they did, compared to Freddie, they came out looking like saints.
Right on brother. As long as the band members liked it its good enough for me. The movie was epic. Hands down one of my favorite.
Brian and Roger were on set a lot, Brian directed a scene or two, of course they like it, they controlled it
It was their movie. They were executive producers. That means they either put up, or raised the money to make it. I would assume they had a lot of say so in how it was done. They have plenty of reason to be pleased with how it turned out. Excellent job by all involved.
They wrote it
I like seeing the differences.

So lucky to have seen them
Pam Robinson i feel the exact same. truly a beautiful movie
You’re so lucky! ❤️
I bet Freddie would have loved the bit where he has to beg cap in hand to the great Brian May so they could get back together again. All because of his greed for money and solo success, especially when you consider Freddie was the third member of the band to have a solo album and they hadn’t actually split up. I don’t care about changing stuff for dramatic purposes but I do care about making the dead member of the band look like a bad guy in a movie which wouldn’t even exist without him.
completely true!
To do this to someone who was supposedly your best friend that passed away before his time is so disrespectful,m
The cast is soooooo identical to the real Queen

except for Rami and Ben, yes.
They actually pulled the real Brian May from 1970 for the movie!
except for malik, doesnt look like queen
I don't see it.
A lot of people are allergic to those contacts, for example Daniel Radcliffe couldn’t wear green contacts in Harry Potter as he was allergic
Fun little trivia: He was also allergic to the glasses due to the material, surprisingly. They had to make a new pair and everything
And tbh Rami did such a great performance I couldn't care less about hi eyes color.
Cheap Vodka actors do not use contacts as it prevents them from using the eyes to express the emotions. Otherwise they look robotlike.
Rami said that he hated wearing brown contacts in Twilight and that it was not a great deal in terms of acting...

It won't.. It's not a Screenwriters guild movie, and as such they seem to prefer US trash instead... chu it’s nominated for 13 Oscars dude!
Completely overlooked, why?
but it was all his drama o.o
It's almost as if the plot of the movie fits with the song it is named after. "Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?" The song tells a very true story with fictional details - so I feel that is what this movie represents. It tells a real story in the way Freddie would have wanted to tell it. "Its all about presentation, darlings!"
Good point dang

I don't care about the inaccuracies, I'm complaining because the movie was shit. At least other music biopics are pleasingly formulaic, but this movie is just pathetic.
@@VultureClone what was wrong with it
I love the movie and I really appreciate how it emphasized Freddie's incredible talent and energy and the band's music.
Queen say its more about the band than Freddie well meant to be .. even though I would love to see an actual film of Freddie still a great movie but t hats why it wasn't named after Freddie because it more about the band and it's transitions and hard knock living on the road and hard times the band had fell on.
a biopic movie that made artistic licenses to tell a better story?
WHAT A SHOCK
🤣
But it's not a better story, the movie suffers for it
@@michaelleahy9265 Agreed.
Michael Leahy no..
@@michaelleahy9265 And just why do you say this? :')
All I know is that movie is damn good and Remi Malik oh my God he was Freddie Mercury there is nothing whatsoever to criticize about this movie I would see it again and again I love Freddy and he was Freddie to me
Agree! I hope he gets an Oscar nom.
YES
I thought Rami Malek did an outstanding job! I watched him in The Pacific and Mr. Robot. The guy has a gift. Loved it!
rami malek*
I agree!
And that's how much I care about the changes
tsukigalleta same here...no one got out of their seats until the lights went back on and we all clapped. Powerful movie
I sang and nobody else did. Hell with it, I wanted to sing!
Same story here!
Singing in a movie theater, jeepers, that's pathetic.
I LOVE that book! I wrote to Jim after it was first published. He actually wrote me back and sent me a photo of his kitten.
@@BeYounique...Maryanne That's so sweet !
And he was a hairdresser. Not a waiter.
I was wondering about that as well. It was kind of funny how they put Jim in the movie and the way they met in the movie. Even though it wasn't the case. Still a good scene.
Be YOUnique The Anti-Bullying Channel that's so cool he did that!!
I still can't get over the fact John Deacon is little Timmy from Jurassic Park...
What?! I had no idea.
....and Eugene Sledge from The Pacific
...and if you know who play the EMI executive is funnier listenning what he say about Bo Rap
Noel B isn't he Mike Myers?
TIL. Thank you.
Although the film is different to what actually happened, I still adore the film. I saw it 3 times in a row. Big congratulations to Rami for splendid performance on being Freddie Mercury
Not changing his blue eyes to dark eyes to match Freddy's was really odd
not knowing it's Freddie not Freddy is even odder
Marcus Homs who is Freddy. I only know freddie
This is not the Spelling Bee guys. I felt that was odd to. Really easy to get contacts.
Rami probably couldn't wear them
Aaliyah White it’s respectful to spell a name right. Would you care if people kept calling you Aliyah
The movie was great....Rami did Freddie justice. I laughed and cried. Will definitely see again
I was very interested to know who actually sang on the film and that's just what I found- an article stating: _"It's...complicated."_
* As am I.
Cindy Martha THEY LEFT OUT THE BBW GERMAN LADY AS WELL. THEY WERE IN GERMANY BUT NEVER REALLY ELABORATED...
I did notice that in the movie, Freddie made a few digs at Roger for what sounded like infidelity.
The movie was NOT a documentary. It was for entertainment...PERIOD!!
Jamie Layton it’s supposed to be a biography isn’t it? Stick to the truth and don’t feed us all these lies. People who watch the movie actually believes that this is how things played out. Not cool.
”Based on real events” is what they should call it. Then I would be ok with it.
Wither81 you’re right!
@@Wither81 Fox categorizes the movie as drama so I don't think they mean it's a documentary.
@@Wither81 Lol, "don't feed us all these lies" there's a lot of truth in the movie so "all these lies" seems a bit over the top to me 😁

Benny Lloyd-Willner Do you think Biography and documentary is the same thing? 🙄
These are all valid, yet superficial complaints against the movie......which is a movie. If you want hard facts watch a Documentary , of which there are many
The movie with respect and love to Queen!👏
Or... if YOU think that way be smart and dont watch a video that obviously talks about your glorified movie inaccuracies. You knew what the video was about, didnt you?
Even Queen's "Days of Our Lives" documentary is a good worth checking out.
As long as Brian and Roger approve I’m fine with what the film has to offer. They are the official spokesmen for it. Can’t wait to see it. ❤️
It's amazing
Inspired Genious you're in for a treat. It's amazing. The casting is spot on & Rami Malek is awesome. Enjoy.
So did Brian May !!
It wasn't just the usa critics, in fact many of those criticizing the film are the Brit critics themselves. Compare NMEs criticism of the film to Rolling Stone magazine. Spoiler Alert: It got rave reviews from Rolling Stone magazine.
@@osvie0167 Yeah I realise that now. In truth the NME critics never liked the band much at the time, didn't matter much then either.
they clapped tonight in Stockholm too, at the cinema where I saw the film. A very fine movie. Btw. not even documentaries can tell all the story. That is the way it is. A very very fine movie. Happy I saw it, in spite of negative critics one of the best experiences.
The audience also clapped in Knoxville, Tennessee
Nothing bothers me more than his eyes being different. Rami has certainly acted so well, he has impersonated brilliantly. It's just the eyes i wish were black.
Lol. Riiiiiiight.
Robin Smith from what I’ve heard Rami couldn’t put on contacts because they irritated his eyes
