This was one of my sister in law's favorite songs. She passed away yesterday morning after a long hard battle to recover from the chemo therapy treatments that she went through for Leukemia. She'd been in remission for nearly 2 years, but the complications from the chemo and bone marrow transplant were just too much for her to overcome.
I watched this the night my grandmother passed. I had just left the theater when I got the call. This song will forever be both hauntingly beautiful and sad.
Not only am I not a theater kid but I haven't seen the show in any form and really only know this one song from it, because it was included in a live recording of a Betty Buckley performance.
My mom died on October 10th, 2020. We played this, one of her favorite songs, at her funeral. I remember she used to sing this in the car when I was younger. I'll miss her.

Ahh! This last year, at my school (Great Oak) I sang this as a Tenor with my friend Roy. Him and I were the only tenors and I stuck by him and just tried to learn how to actually sing well... I tried my best, and I'm happy that I was able to spend the time with him that I had (He was a senior, and I a freshman, but now he's off to college, and I'm a sophomore now). Times like THIS is what keeps me going in life.. Just good old memories and good times, and looking back at them reminds myself that there are plenty more to come!
I can't help crying as I watch this video. My father died in March. I was only able to see him for about 5 minutes in person the last year of his life due to the pandemic and being a health care worker. I didn't want to put my parents at risk of getting covid. I just feel like I was cheated out precious time that could have been spent with him. If anything comes from this pandemic I hope it's people putting more value in the time they spend with family and other loved ones. I'm very sorry to anyone who has lost a loved one during this time.

I remember when I performed this with the Vocal Ensemble in grade school! It was our Winter Concert for the 2005-2006 school year at Shawmont and this was one of the songs we performed! Good times!

This musical ALWAYS makes me cry. I've seen the film adaptation well over 200 times & everytime, it tugs at my heart. No matter how much a musical theater snob you are, you cant deny the power & talent this musical has.

I first watched Rent for Idina, and now I’m completely in love with it! The soundtrack is incredible and I would have done anything to watched this original cast perform it on broadway ❤️

Maartin, Idina Menzel, Wilson Heredia (Angel), Taye Diggs, David Driver & Daphne Rubin-Vega. It changed my life. I live in the neighborhood in which it takes place, the East Village, in Manhattan. People were truly dropping like flies from AIDS here before antiretrovirals became available. This play was a midern-day version of the opera La Bohème. "Jonathan Larson's Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Rent opened on Broadway at the Nederlander Theatre April 29, 1996. The production, directed by Michael Greif, played over 5,000 performances, running for 12 years before closing on September 7, 2008."
