Yeah I've driven a few hundred now. It seems similar to before, but it is sort of challenging as temps have started to drop. Tire noise is a little more noticeable though, but not bad by any means.
Looking forward to your update later, CR tested it in 225/40R18, gave it a fair in ride comfort, same for rolling resistance which they tested on a dyno. They rated dry braking, handling and noise very good, wet braking good.
Really nice look! Interesting results for your test. Would appreciate a longer term follow up in terms of efficiency and how the speedometer was affected.
Thanks! I agree very interesting. The speedo is very accurate. I took it up to 98mph and it matched the gps exactly. I'll definitely follow up on the efficiency and how it drives in various weather conditions too.
Awesome vid, thank you for explaining your rationale behind choosing the tires that you did, that was really helpful for someone like me that doesn't know a lot about tires. Looking forward to finding some new ones for my EV6!
How is the tire wear when u use a bit more of sporty tires and drive a EV? due to the Torque and weight will they wear noticeable faster? thinking abt stickyness and being soft and not wideness related
Yeah I get that. EVs _can_ have more tire wear compared to gas vehicles IF you floor it a lot from low speeds. If you drive it like normal though, it won't matter if it's gas or electric since it's not struggling for traction. As for weight, I talk about it some in the video, but it depends on the EV. Some are heavier (6k lbs +). Others are lighter (my EV6 is 4600 lbs, a Kona EV is under 4000 lbs) and shouldn't cause more tire wear as they are comparable to a lot of fairly popular gas vehicles.
Yes I was very happy with them up until I traded the car in a couple months ago. If they made them in the GT size (255/40/21) I would have gotten them for my new car.
I won’t buy tires without seeing meaningful wet traction data like TireRack shows. No price is worth slippery tires like the Goodyear Wranglers I had once. And no warranty info shows.
The tests Tire Rack does? Those are handy, I agree. That said, a lot of reviews noted good traction in wet weather so I'm not concerned there personally. I'll definitely let people know my experiences though. And no warranty info? On these tires? I mentioned in the video they have a 40k mile warranty.
Yeah honestly I've never used a tire warranty. I blow through tires pretty quick with how I drive. Always had high powered cars and I drive them. But I am definitely a fan of these.
@@TechnicallyJeff I never have either but it’s a measure of expected longevity. I went 118,000 miles on two sets of tires on my Nissan Frontier. My wife is on her third set at 93,000 in her Prius. Other than those I usually replace cars before they need tires but I plan to keep the EV6.
@@JohnCap523 yeah I definitely get that. I've had some sets last me less than 20k miles when I had my mustangs lol. Hopefully these get me around 25k miles. If so, I'll be happy.
Seems like a great purchase. They look great and that price is ridiculously low. They are almost giving them away. What city are you near in Virginia. I am just outside of Raleigh in NC and it would be cool to compare an contrast my Model 3 Performance on 18' wheels with your EV6. If you ever want to do a collaboration video I could probably meet you up there in Virginia. I am moving to just outside D.C. next year. Great video. Can't wait to see what videos you do next.
Thanks! Yeah I'm excited to have saved a lot of $$ getting them. They seem awesome for the price. Time will tell, but I'm optimistic. I'm about an hour south of DC. It would be cool to get together and compare/contrast our two vehicles. I'm always down for a collaboration 👍
@@TechnicallyJeff Man I live right across the river from you in MD. If you ever need a second EV6 for a video, let me know! Would love to hang out and geek over the cars lol
Hey Jeff, I was wondering how the treadlife was on these tires before you traded it in. I also have a WIND AWD and I'm in the market for some tires. TIA
You need to take the reading to each direction and then reset gauges when going other direction. Now the traffic ligths and how you moved the car off the highway impacts your accuracy and results.
Eh the impact of the lights and getting on/off the highway at the turnaround is minimal due to the regen. It was basically the same experience both times at the turnaround too.
Hey! I actually traded the car in several months ago on a new EV6 GT, but I was very happy with them the entire time I had them. Great traction all around. Quieter than my Michelin PSAS4 tires I got for my EV6 GT. And great price.
Would you mind telling me what rims are those? They look great! I'd love to set mine up just like that honestly, so if you could let me know how you set them up sizes and whatever I would really appreciate it. I have the runway red ev6, so I will probably get them powder coated a different color, but I have to figure out what to do about the chrome/silver accents on the car that I dont really like. Thanks in advance.
They are Titan 7 T-S5 wheels. Here's one of the videos I did on them - ruclips.net/video/HeGfLG3rZao/видео.html. They are really nice. If you are interested, reach out to Titan 7. They are still evaluating producing them for the EV6, but seem close.
We were happy with the OEM Kumo tires on our EV6; we got 45,000 miles out of them and they performed fine. We don’t push the car excessively. Just bought a set of Atlas tires in the original 235/55/19 size For about half of what local tire shops, including Costco, were asking. After only about 500 miles I can tell you that they are a tiny bit quieter than the OEM tires, and seem to be performing well in our wet and cold conditions. Bought them from an online shop and had them installed at one of their affiliated local shops; good overall buying experience.
Yeah run flats are definitely heavier. If you want just the best range, something like the hankook ion evo as tires would be good. Honestly though, with these being fairly efficient compared to my stock kumho ev tires, the price is SO much less than other options, I'm happy with these.
Thanks for the other options to explore come on my Chevy bolt is new so seeing how long the tires last will factor in, of course I like the idea of less expensive
These types of videos are what the world needs more of. I just purchased a new Toyota Camry SE and tires are like $250 each but 4 of these Atlas Force tires are just over $320, FOR 4! Please keep us updated, I personally do not care so much about fuel efficiency, noise and comfort is what I care about.
Thanks! I'm very happy with them. They've been great in dry and wet weather as well as snow. They are slightly louder than my stock tires, but they are EV tires that have foam to be quieter.
@@TechnicallyJeff that's great! I've actually heard good things about Summit Ultramax HP all season tires as well. Both Atlas and Summit are priced great in comparison to their competitors.
@@TechnicallyJeff yeah this $250-300 a tire craze is getting a bit out of control, especially when tires of equal quality can be bought for $75! I was nearly convinced that I was going to have to spend a grand when it came time to replace my tires, until I saw your video! Plus, you're in a EV which let's us know sound is at a premium in your decision process. Thanks bro, your review video just saved me probably $700. That is why I said these are the types of review videos that the world needs more of.
What? you want performance tires for track but you also want allseason for winter driving? You can't get everything in one tyre. Then get som Michelin PS4s for summer and som real winter tires for winter. If you can afford an 50.000$ Ev you should be able to get 2 sets of wheels! Weird reasoning IMO. Also they don't stick out!? Yes they do stick out of the fenders actually! this is illegal in Most of Europe8,5" ET 45 is lowest allowed for Ioniq 5 /EV6!
That's the point of an all season tire lol. There are many all seasons that handle great in dry conditions, though obviously not as well as summer tires which don't handle as well as track tires. With what you said, you'd be spending over $3500 on wheels/tires. Definitely not necessary. In Virginia, we get some snow, but nothing crazy. I absolutely don't need a set of winter tires lol. As for sticking out, you look at the tread, not the sidewall. The tread does not stick out past the fenders.
@@TechnicallyJeffOne day at the track will destroy a set of all-season. Just get some track tires and a set of cheap rims. Also, you need to look at the revolutions per mile, not just the size of the tire, if you want to correct the speedo reading.
@@pasad335 but the rev per mile is related to the tire size. Assuming both tires deflect the same, the revs per mile is directly proportional to the tire diameter. Nah I've been at tracks many times on all seasons. They do fine. I don't go often enough to justify a dedicated track setup. And yeah revolutions per mile which with going with a larger diameter reduced that value. I tested it at 98 mph and it matches the GPS now.
