    I tried the skirt last week and it fits like a glove. Perfect! I am a beginner and struggled with the lining so it took me a little longer to sew but it came out very nice! I will definitely make it again but without attaching the lining to the hem.

    • @GraceyStitches
      @GraceyStitches  5 месяцев назад

      I’m happy to hear this, especially from a beginner. This proves that my tutorials are beginner-friendly!💃
      You did a good job 👏 . Lining takes more time and skills but of course, with consistent practise, you’ll master it in no time. And yes, you do not have to attach them at the hem if you don’t want it all closed up. In fact, that’s easier. Just ensure that the length of the lining is at least 3” shorter than the main length of your skirt.
      Thanks for the review

      Thank you! One more question. Can I combine this skirt with your bodice tutorial to make a dress? Should I eliminate the step where you depress the waist by 1/2 inch in the front when doing a dress?

    • @GraceyStitches
      @GraceyStitches  4 месяца назад

      @@raquelm8655 No. When joining the bodice to the skirt, don’t skip that step. You still have to depress the waist of the skirt. However, you may need to adjust your darts so that they’ll align.

    Thank you so much for this tutorial. It is really enlightening. How will I do the band considering the fact that the front waistline was dropped by 1inch and this will definitely alter the waist measurement in the sense that the waistline is now bigger than the initial waist measurement. Thank you

    • @GraceyStitches
      @GraceyStitches  3 года назад +6

      Hello. Thanks for watching
      Regarding the band, I have never experienced an excess at the waist and the reasons are:
      1. I measure my waist accurately and firmly. I do not add any ease allowance to the waist.
      2. Remember that we took some inches away from the zipper area right? That ‘excess’ that could occur at the front as a result of depressing it will make up for what we took away from the back. So it cancels out and your waist band remains firm👌
      NB: the waist of the skirt isn’t firm on the mannequin because I used my own waist measurement not the mannequin’s. We share the same hips measurements but I have a bigger waist (I eat a lot 🙈🤣)

      You're welcome
      For the lining, I may not be able to explain well here but if you watch my tutorial on how to make a handkerchief skirt, I demonstrated it there. Regardless of the slit, you'll still sew it the same way. Leave the slit open and sew your lining to the zipper allowance straight down to the hem.

    Excellent tutorial. Will try this out. That means this method could also apply to the bodice because of the bust. Can you do a tutorial on that as well.

      Hello. I'm glad you like the skirt tutorial. Please try it out.
      Regarding the bodice, I do not allocate more to the front than the back. All we need for the front bodice is an adequate 'cup' to accommodate the bust and luckily, the front has 2 darts FROM DIFFERRENT DIRECTIONS to help us achieve that cup effect (waist & bust dart)...although we can add up to 2 darts on the skirt to get the bum effect as well...
      I recently started a series on how to draft different bodice pattern.
      You can start from here ruclips.net/video/Seqhhr3IevE/видео.html for the bodice pattern or here ruclips.net/video/_aU3faW8F9k/видео.html if you want to know more about measurements too.

      Hello Abiodun Abiodun. Thanks for the compliment and also for subscribing❤
      Regarding your question, I'll be uploading how to draft a half scale bodice this week. When you join your bodice pattern with your skirt pattern, you'll have a perfect pattern for a dress.
      Stay tuned.

    Thanks for this very well detailed tutorial. Please have you included the band to the skirt length?

    • @GraceyStitches
      @GraceyStitches  3 года назад +2

      Thank you for the compliment.
      No, I didn't include the band in the length of this skirt pattern because I was going to use it to make a high waist skirt (NB - Usually, I use 2" as my band height.)
      This pattern is just the foundation for a skirt.
      If you want a high waist skirt, draft this pattern (with your measurements) first, then cut out your band separately. But if you want a regular skirt length, draft this pattern, then cut out 2" from the top part of the pattern and use it to construct your band and then reattach it to the skirt.
      Don't forget to add seam allowance all around the band and the top of the skirt.
      I hope my explanation was clear❤

    Thank you so much for this pattern. Pls my question is, when you cut on fabric and want to sew, won't adding the hip circumference no affect the difference on subtracting the one and adding it on front and back panel?

    Hello ma, thanks for this tutorial. Can we use this method when making the “skirt part” of a gown?

    • @GraceyStitches
      @GraceyStitches  3 года назад +2

      Definitely ! Please go ahead. Your result will be perfect.
      As long as the dress has a fitted skirt part, this is what I use.
      Even for A-line skirts, I use this pattern. I just transfer the darts to make it wider at the hem

    I love this video thanks so much. Pls how much ease do you add so you can sit down without it being tight?

    • @GraceyStitches
      @GraceyStitches  3 года назад

      For me, I add 0.25" ease allowance when on fold (making 1" in total). As long as your measurements were not taking tightly (but firmly) , 1" ease allowance (in total) is perfect.
      Thanks for watching..
