    Bhatiyali is a quintessential Bengali tune, when someone plays it, an imagery of rural Northern Bengal emerges in front of eyes. My ancestors lived in Mymensingh before the partition of India, I transcend to that unseen land, when I listen to Bhatiyali

    Fortunately I was present at the concert. It was a memorable night. A first time all night concert in BBC Prom and also a first in all night Indian classical concert in UK, 1981.

      That night BBC Radio 3 broadcasted whole night and my friend recorded them. I gave the cassettes to SRA , Calcutta. But that night’s sensation was 18 years old Irshad’s Surbahar , rag Jog.

    I was a school student...to enter
    the spot,in Ballyganj ...
    South Kolkata...where so many Honourable Artists were invited in Dover-Lane..Singhy-Park...arranged by my cousin brother ...so many times.
    Their creations made me so very sleepy...with the mesmerized tunes...never to end ..and even now at this last phase of my life...in the same way,when I hear through,
    You Tube..sitting in my little flat in Varanasi...India.
    I feel while hearing,as if Ma Ganga river is flowing before me...in Varanasi Ma Ganga Ghat..
    with no ending but goes on and on and on.
    Gratitude..!

    Almost every time I had heard Ustadjee in a live concert, he played this on strong public demand as it had mesmerized his admiring listeners.

    Beautiful and blissful Bhatiyali! Thank you so much for sharing. One tiny comment- this is definitely not Ustad Zakir Hussain. Zakirji's dadra is full of bayan work, tihais and intricate interludes. The tabla accompaniment is amazing, just not that of Ustad Zakir Hussain.

      Your are absolutely correct. It was Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri in tabla not ustad Zakir Hussain.

    • @shamganguly8091
      @shamganguly8091 Год назад

      It was Zakir Hussain. He played with Vilayat Khan on Sitar and Sultan Khan on Sarangi. Two tabalchi used that night, Awatar Singh and Zakir Hussain. Another thing that Bhatialy is a Tagore’s song, ‘ bhenge mor gharer chabi nie jabi ke amare’.

    This isn’t Ustad Zakir Hussain accompanying on the tabla..

      As I know, BHATIYAR is a classical raga and BHATIYALI is a folk tune, popular with boatmen and people living in eastern part of Bangladesh where The Ganges is known as river PADMA.

    • @shamganguly8091
      @shamganguly8091 5 лет назад +1

      No. Bhatiar is a morning raga, Bhatiali is a folk tune originated from Bengal named Baul. Ustad is playing a song of Tagore.
