Can you train for REAL LIFE RACE with a SIMULATOR?

- I trained for my first real life endurance car race with a simulator, and here's how realistic I found it to be. The GT86 car model that comes standard with Assetto Corsa was surprisingly good. Gearing, brake points, and the traction control system all felt great. Sure, the weight was a bit higher because it was modeling a completely stock car, but the characteristics were the same. What really held the realism back was the track model itself which had way too much elevation change and unrealistic grip levels. This is definitely because this is a non-laser scanned track, but I still found using the sim for training purposes made a HUGE difference, and the proof is that I set the team's fastest lap IRL having never driven the car/track before!

Clean Heel Toe downshifts😅 Props
One of the cleanest I’ve seen. I rewatched the vid multiple times to try and see what was going on
I liked the video just for the heel and toe skills
Is that to rev match for the downshift or something?
@@geraltofrivia4651 yes
@@geraltofrivia4651yep, thats exactly what it does. Heel-toe shifting lets you blip the throttle to rev match while you're downshifting under braking.
Professional conclusion : "super helpful"
ok, I'm sold ! 😉
but... I do agree 👍 😂😂
and yet with rather mediocre mod track, with laser scanned it would be even on another level of helpfulness.
@viktorianas gotcha...
but, wouldn't that require higher level of moneyyy ?
like a triple A studio funds ?
@@KC16A6 there are PLENTY of various laser scanned tracks mods (free) in Assetto Corsa, I have like ~20 at least. Also there is scanning with drones these days, not extremely accurate but much cheaper and yet very accurate.
@@viktorianas so... not extremely accurate as te but very accurate...
gotcha 😉
@@KC16A6no.
Drone scanning is accurate but not as accurate as full on laser scanning.
Us plebians of the sim racing world wouldn't know the difference.
Very well put video. Subbing
True a very good vid
As someone who owns a BRZ and plays a ton of Assetto, I can attest to its accuracy. It's scary accurate, down to how stiff the stock steering wheel is.
Do you know what I should drop my money on for a manual driving experience with an accurate clutch feel and shifter? I have about 1250-1500$ to spend
@@Real_F2 1500 for just the wheel/pedals/driving accessories or the entire setup (PC and all)?
@@Real_F2moza r12 and hard pedals
The curb behaviour is because of how assetto lacks proper wheel and suspension simulation. Just very recently assetto corsa competizione received an update which implemented much more accurate tire modeling coupled with more realistic suspension handling, and basically put it on par with iRacing. Sadly no such update for regular assetto corsa though.
Assetto Corsa 2 is in development, could be why OG Assetto isn't getting anything.
@@m1co294 AC is still developed by CSP.
I would not talk about things like "proper wheel and suspension simulation" unless you can accurately define exactly what is the meaning of those statements. FWIW the ACC loadpoint model didn't use a weighted average for the sampled load so it's not exactly more accurate, just different.
Many of the issues with the kerb behavior are car model issues and aren't fixed with just changing the tire load method, although a bad method will exaggerate issues.
@@m1co294wasnt og assetto was kind of sold to the community? which is also why CM is kind of essential nowadays to play assetto and unlock all of the feature. they kind of rely on what the community wants and no official developer update for the game
@ArchOfficial AC uses single raycast wheels so basically the game only uses one point of contact of the tires, it is very obvious when you drive over a steep curve because the car will simply jump over it, as for the suspension it's also obviously shit if you drive over any rough surface and especially when you take a small jump where it would either feel terrible or would collapse and cause you to fall through the map
Man I would love to race. I would race anything if I had the chance. Very cool to see you go through all this. Congratulations on your progress brother. Would love to get a simulator but I don't even have a computer or know what kind to get. Not a tech guy at all.
Just buy a ps5, Gran Turismo 7, psvr2, a second hand wheel with pedals and a playseat challenge and you'll have the greatest racing experience you can imagine for also like the lowest total cost.
@@jagwam I don't know about that. GT7 is not a sim, and why would you invest in VR over a better set of pedals or a DD wheel?
@@tadtakuma true!
Not a sim of course.
I just freaking love the gt7 psvr2 setup with chair, wheel and pedals.
It's just so amazing.

Logitech G29 is the answer. A cheap, entry level steering wheel that comes with pedals, is great and super reliable.
Years ago I played Toca race driver 2, which had our local track on. So what to the track. Using their Ferrari 355. Scared the crap out of the instructor. I was charging gears later that I should've. This guy is hanging on literally.
He asked "you need to be in second back there"
"Have you driven this car before?"
Me "no"
"Have you driven on this track before?"
Me "nope"
"Then how are you taking these corners so fast"
Me "it's on my racing game at home. I know where the corners are, just don't not sure about the bumps"
"For @#£@ sake"
I just laughed and carried on chucking the car around. Good times lol
I tried Project Cars 2 with my friend's setup, (it has VR support), and it was pretty good, looked beautiful and life like, but mirror, blind spot, and window distancing was way off, like it was instant better disappearing from my mirror to looking at the cars' fender through the window net
play assetto corsa bro you won't look back at those arcade games
PC2 is simcade, not the most accurate thing out there
lol project cars is not a sim
I was playing the moto gp game, and it is nothing like real life. Without the forces that happen to your body, the wind, the feeling of traction and feedback from tires, chassis and brakes...it doesn't even come close. On cars it's the same, you have many forces tou xannot replicate in a sim, and they make all the difference. For me it's actually easier to drive in real life and not in a simulator, because of all that extra information you're getting.
Yes, you can. I have done it. Did it for a Formula Ford Skip Barber series race. The only track I had available. Won one of the events in Road America.
Yes, indeed.
The new age of racing this is so awesome
That’s a super clean Sim rig!
Jealous 😮
Curb behavior is always the most noticeable difference on tracks I know. Even ones that claim to be laser scanned.
Are you playing assetto corsa? Because the kerbs are off in that game despite the rest of the simulation being really nice. I think it's a combination of the single point contact tire model and the physics engine hz.
@@wrighteously Yes, but also iracing.
Ayee!! Shannonville!! Can we get an early notification if you go to Calabogie? I would love to come watch!
That celica in the beginning cool
Why is it so high up tho😂😂

Apashe that was a good song man
Yes it will help as long as you playing simulators and not arcades. Plenty of videos showing pro sim drifters drifting for the 1st time in real life and they will tell you it’s the same without feeling the gfirces from the car
You’re coming to shannonville, that’s so dope. That’s my local track and I Didn’t even know there is an endurance race
Thats what I was thinking 😂
Dope video
If you are a circle track driver like i am iracing and real life is very relatable and it helps aloy in learnkng a track and the perfect line and how to get into a rhythm on that track and fast cause in oval racing as soon as that green flag drops you better shoft perfectly and then get into the rythym before lap 1 is even complete. Amd it also helps to show you where the bug huge bunps are in the track to avoid in realife that upsets the racecar. I been racing since i was 10 and iracing has saved me thousands and thousands if not half a million dollars on track rental time and wear on yhe racecar just to get seat time at new tracks before race weekend and as many laps in as possible
Shannonville! I’m just down the road from there lol
Seat time is more important than absolutely zero tolerance accuracy
Bro said the title of a jeremy Clarkson documentary on american cars
Yo I’m just saying. I’ve been racing in GT7 vr with a wheel and FGT lite rig, got probably 60 hours in since I bought the thing. Just went and raced K1 speed karts and CRUSHED EVERYONE that I came with (my gf’s dad was .005 seconds behind me tho sheesh) My braking was better. My lines were better. Sim racing DEFINTIELY helped me out there. I’m convinced.
my guy is giving this thorough explanation involving track scanning and so on meanwhile the devs at AC are just like "bro we made a simple car game you press the gas button the car drives its not that complicated" LOL
Without watching the whole short: Sure you can, just watch the 24H Nurburgring. There are a couple of teams that have a sim racing competing in real already and damn, they are fast..
Try Gran Turismo. Nissan quite literally took the best player on it and had them race in 24 hours of le mans, and they were good. The players name is Jann Mardenborough. Look it up. They just made a movie about him. He played his own stunt double.
that heel movement kinda reminds me of max verstappen

Assetto Corsa is the best Sim racing game. I pray for something equally good
Me too. AC hits the marks for me on the 'feeling' of how a car should drive. I've tried iRacing, AMS2, and ACC, but keep going back to AC just because it feels so connected. AC2 better no disapoint.
That s the best path to train for racing if u don t have a car
should have tried Arch physics replacement for the GT86
Jann mardenborough moment
Gran turismo movie be like 🤔
Nice
Shannonville Ontario? I live like 20 minutes from there lol.
I sim raced for ages and just moved from karting to cars and there’s one thing that ain’t in sim racing. Putting down the damn handbrake.
PLEASE MAKE TUTORIALS FOR THE MOZA STUFF LIKE HOW TO USE FORZA EMULATORS OR BEST SETUPS AND STUFF
That Toyota celica gts at the start tho.
I need to know, do you have a specific training routine for making your foot twist like that in order to do heel toe shifts?
Cuz ive tried before and that sh!t hurts😅😅😅
just sit in your car while it's off and practice. Some people like Matt Farah don't use heel toe they use the right side of their foot to blip throttle.
All pedals are set up differently, so it might just be down to that. Just figure out what works for you and dont think too much about it.
@@5PYZ3R have you ever pressed the brake a few times in a car when the engines off?
@@ciarancdc yes it stiffens up but that doesn't matter, you don't need to compress the brake just get used to holding your toe on the brake and blipping the gas. Actually makes it better to learn imo

Me here still waiting for the good the bad and the ugly
If your really good at sim racing or drifting, you’ll be really good at racing or drifting

You should get a motion rig 😊
my foot aint felxible enough to hit the gas while staying on the brake pedal
You could have played gran tourismo
Unwanted kerb behaviour sounds like Assetto Corsa alright, great game but they didn't have that part down unfortunately
I want a sim setup. I play beamng a lot and want to learn a manual before one day buying one
The question posed is old and has been answered many times. a whole movie based on this concept is coming. Smh
Seems like Odessy and Black flag had the fewest and smallest problems. In my opinion they are also the best, do have a lot of hope for the next one tho
You should get grab torizmo

In GT class or Touring class racing, do you really need to train your neck like a formula 1 driver?
No
lol no. Most of those cars will barely pull 1g-2g of lateral. F1 pulls 5+.
I WANT A LASER SCANNED SHANNY MODEL😢
Could you give us specific list of these set ups you bought and how much for the price of it?
They say the best way is to fake it until you make it!
The heusinkveld Sprint is NOT a hydraulic base pedal 🤦 , I wish I was half as fast as you lol
I hate driving sims because they're extremely unrealistic.
The car in game handles totally differently compared to in real life. In real life the car turns way better.
Also the brakes for in game are way too weak. They feel almost nonexistent. There's practically zero brake control for cornering and they have no stopping power at high speeds.
Its the movements that translate not the equipment
When u got rich parents
Bro needs three feet
Same
Ac always has wack kerb behavior
if moza srp pedals are exact match to a real life hydraulically assisted pedal, why am i trying to upgrade them all the time?
How do I get that Shannonville track that’s my home track
Gran turismo only
Bruh talks about the track instead of just focusing on car lol
Consequence reference?
I have to totally disagree that video games come close to the feeling of driving an actual car, there's no physics of the car moving, there's no replacement for the real thing if you're going to race
why Das? why not Dutta, Goswami, Sharma or something else

Hi
You should try beamng. The driving physics are very accurate, but unfortunately, the real car mods aren't that accurate to how the car performs irl
The handling model is what matters for racing. Assetto Corsa is a racing sim, BeamNG is a physics sim, the distinction matters
