This sounds like i'm in the middle of a dark forest, surrounded by a coven of witches and the supreme is casting a spell on me. So. Good. Yes, it's a 360 from the context of show, but it's a good difference. A different genre. It's great. Very enchanting. 👍🏾
I feel like so many people are missing the point of Out of Oz... recreating our favorite Wicked songs with artistic spins on them. This might be my favorite one yet because of how perfectly well the jauntiness of the music strays from the original No Good Deed. Obviously the song in the show isn't supposed to be happy, and we wouldn't want it to be, but this isn't the show, and hearing it like this out of it is so different and fun, I don't see how anyone in their right mind could fault it just for the tone being "wrong" when it's so well-executed. (Aside from just not liking the tune.) Also, holy cow, she has a powerful voice!
Plus the people that think the song loses out on the intensity, this is a video. You see her facial expressions and she is singing the song without any background, both literally and figuratively. She isn't on stage with a story line happening. If you close your eyes and imagine this particular moment in the play, you may see it differently. But either way, she isn't performing the song for a story, simply singing the song with her incredible, most amazing voice. You can bet everything you have that in the moment on the stage, you would think she was performing with perfection. HOWEVER, just my opinion.
Everybody's saying how this being upbeat makes it sound happy and strays away from the original sadness of the song. To the contrary, I think it instead makes the song sound angry, a different side to it that is welcome to me
Lol can't please anyone. If you check the concert version from a month ago they bitch the tempo and emotions are lost with it slowed down. I for one always come back to this cover. It's a perfect fit of artist and form.
Since coming into the music scene, Jennifer Nettles has and always gets my vote for greatest vocals ever. I absolutely love every single time she sings. Never a dull moment when she opens those pipes.
I saw Jennifer Nettles and I thought, "Why did I never put this together?" Of course she can hit these notes! She's changed the way it's sung, yes, but she's not changed the emotion of it. No Good Deed if Elphaba went to Sheeiz instead of Shiz.
The only upbeat aspect of this version is the tempo. I don´t think the lyrics lost any gravitas because of it. On the contrary, it feels like Elphaba is hurt, angry and out for blood, which seems entirely appropriate given the situation. I absolutely adore this version, precisely because of the drama, it´s a great spin on the original.
I think the purpose of this series is to put a new twist on the songs of Wicked... I personally am obsessed with the musical and am a fan of Jennifer Nettles. It's a country version of the song... I like it!!! Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
What a fantastic version. So completely different from the original, but amazing in its own right. And it doesn't hurt that I love Jennifer Nettles' voice :) A complete treat
A lot of you are complaining how this isn't in the key it's supposed to be sang in, but what you fail to realize is that this is called "Out of Oz" for a reason. It's not meant to be like the Broadway production
I think that this is really incredible. I don`t find it at all ~fun~, it`s truly hurtful and angry, reminds me a lot of Dolly Parton and Reba McEntire. It has a lot of that "epic country song" vibe, which is normally heard when a man is singing, so to hear it from Nettles is just outstanding. It is very much a "i'm going to hunt and kill them all" song that one hears in Western movies during a big chasing scene
I love this cover. I don't consider it "too happy"... I feel it like she regrets her good deeds because of the consequences but she has also already dealt with feedback and accepted it. As if she's saying that she's up to change her ways from now on, but she is done struggling with the past. I just love it!
This is an incredible arrangement and fantastic performance. All the artists should be commended for their efforts. It is great to hear out of context of the musical as a unique stand alone with a different flavor than the original. So glad to hear living arrangements that are out of the box. I was blown away by Jennifer Nettles.
As a long time fan on Jennifer Nettles, I love it. As a Wicked fan, lost the strong emotions in the song. Now, that being said, this sounds like a song that Jennifer would put on an album. I love it.
LOVE IT. Coolest rearrangement ever! Bet it wasn't easy, given how heavy the operatic themes are in NGD. As for all those people going 'It's not my thing', maybe you should listen to the moral of the musical and try 'looking at things a different way'? :-p
Sure you can! If something doesn't float your boat, that's totally cool by me. I don't like sea urchin, personally - gives me terrible wind. However, I do think that a lot of people are commenting on here because they don't like this style, and would rather be listening to the original. I had hoped that people who read my comment might be persuaded to give this interpretation another try. Listen to the way it melts away into the piano at around the 2-minute mark! Marvel at the way the phrasing has been changed to account for the style! Isn't that gorgeous?! Tell me that's not special!
I like this video. I have not seen the musical live but am familiar with listening to the original version of this song. it took me maybe several listens but I enjoy this version. particularly the energy of the performance. I mean Nettles still carries a sort of anger but she and the rest of the band are obviously having a ball in this performance. and her voice is so gorgeous and strong
Whoever says the music makes it sound happy has no taste. It’s not just the music that makes a song sad. It’s the lyrics, how the music is played, the expressions of the singer and how they sing it and many other things
Zoe H Huh? This isn't a Idina replacement... this is part of a series where famous artists from different genres reinterpret the songs from the show. She isn't playing Elphaba.
This is amazing! Yes, the tone doesn't fit the lyrics - but I think the "Out Of Oz" title makes it very clear it's not meant to be consumed in the context of the story. I prefer covers like this over those that sound exactly like the original. :)
This is the unholy lovechild of Wicked and the story of the Hatfields and McCoys. Fucking hell, I love it. It legit sounds like something that should have been in that one History Channel thing abt the Hatfields and McCoys, as part of the part abt the boy and girl from each family that fell in love. Jennifer Nettles, you're doing amazing sweetie, I love you.
She nailed this arrangement although it didn't have the heart and soul of the original arrangement or the build up it's a great cover and catchy I feel like it's the type of cover you could hear on the radio and people non versed in the musical world would love it and people who know the original would go "umm this is Wicked".
It's fantastic !! Yes it did lost the heavy and sad side of the song but it's the point of all the Out of Oz's videos ! The country side is really good and, I didn't know Jennifer Nettles before but she is really great ! And it's just me or some time she looks like Jennifer Lawrence ?
Although the majority of the song was too upbeat for the lyrics of the song Jennifer Nettles did an amazing job. On the contrary I think she could totally portray the emotion as it should. The bridge was fantastic and had the perfect emotions.
I love this version, I think I like it even better than the original sometimes. It really gets across the anger in the song while also being incredibly fun to listen to. Any chance of a karaoke version or chords ever coming around?
I appreciate that they were trying to add a artistic twist to this song and I love Jennifer and she has a fantastic voice but I don’t know if I like this version of the song. I’ll keep listening to it to see if it grows on me.
I love Jennifer Nettles and she has a fantastic voice but this rendition of the song is too happy and completely lost the emotional gravity the song is suppose to portray.
This is a completely different arrangement and concept from the original. This has power on its own, and not within the context of the musical. Well done!
This sounds like i'm in the middle of a dark forest, surrounded by a coven of witches and the supreme is casting a spell on me. So. Good. Yes, it's a 360 from the context of show, but it's a good difference. A different genre. It's great. Very enchanting. 👍🏾

she's amazing :D
You totally got the point! Agree 100%. It's not about doing a mere cover of the song but providing it of a new point of view.
Feel like this rendition could be sung in counterpoint with Dolly Parton's Jolene, the backing has a similar feel
@@tomgallowitz4464, true!

never thought country and Wicked could be combined but I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT
Jennifer Nettles is the only person who is can change melodies from Wicked. This was a public announcement, thank you. This is incredible!!!
Everybody's saying how this being upbeat makes it sound happy and strays away from the original sadness of the song. To the contrary, I think it instead makes the song sound angry, a different side to it that is welcome to me
I would've agreed had they not included the tambourine lol
Lol can't please anyone. If you check the concert version from a month ago they bitch the tempo and emotions are lost with it slowed down.
I for one always come back to this cover. It's a perfect fit of artist and form.

Jennifer Nettles is a goddess. Love this re-imagining. Just listen and take the ride
Love this. Heard the lyrics in a totally different way. This series is great, wish the songs were released.
The only upbeat aspect of this version is the tempo. I don´t think the lyrics lost any gravitas because of it. On the contrary, it feels like Elphaba is hurt, angry and out for blood, which seems entirely appropriate given the situation. There is nothing Jennifer can't do. This is just amazing!!! Hope to see her back on Broadway again soon.
love it!!! My 2 favorite things combined country and musical!!!!!
Not sure how I only just stumbled on this, but i am OBSESSED!!!!
I think the purpose of this series is to put a new twist on the songs of Wicked... I personally am obsessed with the musical and am a fan of Jennifer Nettles. It's a country version of the song... I like it!!! Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

What a amazing voice 😍
Jennifer can sing any song in any genre from any time period and knock it out of the park!
What a lovely voice and exciting arrangement.
A lot of you are complaining how this isn't in the key it's supposed to be sang in, but what you fail to realize is that this is called "Out of Oz" for a reason. It's not meant to be like the Broadway production
The is the best #OutOfOz session yet! I love it! I hope they do all the show's songs!
I think that this is really incredible. I don`t find it at all ~fun~, it`s truly hurtful and angry, reminds me a lot of Dolly Parton and Reba McEntire. I live for her facial expressions when she sings ❤️🙌🏻
What an incredible voice!
Didn't know I needed western wicked until right now
Are you kidding me???? This is INCREDIBLE.
As a long time fan on Jennifer Nettles, I love it. As a Wicked fan, lost the strong emotions in the song. Now, that being said, this sounds like a song that Jennifer would put on an album. I love it.
My thoughts exactly, die-hard fan of both Wicked and Jen
I'm surprised by how much I actually liked this. She sings it really well. She's like a country Idina Menzel.
True!
Look up her and Idina singing together. It is magical!!
I completely agree !
It is terrible....she is screaming it
I have never listened to he music.... but when I listened to this it’s a insult to idina menzel.
😍😍💚🎶 yes girl! She is fabulous!
Dang girl you killed it!!!!!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!
That's fucking awesome. I love this rendition of the song!
Yay! Two of my favorite things! Jennifer and Wicked!! Keep up the great work! 🥕🎈💕
listen to that voice
I would like a country album with the Wicked songs
Love this Wicked county anthem!
The music director of this fantastical re-imagining deserves every musical award known! Jennifer get thee to Broadway.
I actually had goosebumps
LOVE IT. Coolest rearrangement ever! Bet it wasn't easy, given how heavy the operatic themes are in NGD.

Ive always said she has one of best voices in country music....this video proves it. What a talent.............
🤢🤮

Omg I loved this and didn't expect to. New appreciation for lyrics too with new phrasing/phrase bracketing
But really, her voice has spooky power. Freaking amazing.
Whoever says the music makes it sound happy has no taste. It’s not just the music that makes a song sad. It’s the lyrics, how the music is played, the expressions of the singer and how they sing it and many other things
Oh, I dig this. Deep.
Wonderful x
Man, I Love this. If this was on iTunes I would buy it.
Love this! Is this available on Apple Music?
Me encanta!
RAW!
Magnificent 😍❤️
A little upbeat for the musical's context but a beautiful voice and arrangement!
Zoe H Huh? This isn't a Idina replacement... this is part of a series where famous artists from different genres reinterpret the songs from the show. She isn't playing Elphaba.
"#OutOfOz" for a reason
Wtaf. That voice with those notes and that band to sing over 💣
Loved this soooooo much!!!
God I love this so much
This sounds like it should be playing as part of the story of the Hatfields and McCoys. #loveit
This is amazing! Yes, the tone doesn't fit the lyrics - but I think the "Out Of Oz" title makes it very clear it's not meant to be consumed in the context of the story.

YESSS
Amazing!!! good work :)
0:00 - 0:39 Mark Hamill's prayers before reading the script for The Last Jedi
0:39 - 3:10 Mark Hamill after reading the script for The Last Jedi
this is incredible. she is incredible.
that voice. and the band. the vibes. damn.
Love this so much!
Damn, this is amazing in more ways than one. Great job!! :D
Changes in instrumentals definitely takes away the meaning on the song but it’s still amazing
A-WAITFORIT-MAZING!!!
wow! this is amazing! ♡

Incredible version. Jennifer has a voice second to none..fantastic!

When is this going on Spotify?
omg love it
Wow, super tallented.
Although the majority of the song was too upbeat for the lyrics of the song Jennifer Nettles did an amazing job. On the contrary I think she could totally portray the emotion as it should. The bridge was fantastic and had the perfect emotions.
when she does her high notes she stands like a scarecrow
I love her tho
Love Love
I love this version, I think I like it even better than the original sometimes. It really gets across the anger in the song while also being incredibly fun to listen to. Any chance of a karaoke version or chords ever coming around?
Dude Jennifer Nettles would kill at Broadway.
I can only find out of oz on RUclips. Anyone know if it can be purchased anywhere. Looked on Spotify can't find it.
I appreciate that they were trying to add a artistic twist to this song and I love Jennifer and she has a fantastic voice but I don’t know if I like this version of the song. I’ll keep listening to it to see if it grows on me.
❤️❤️❤️
I love Jennifer Nettles and she has a fantastic voice but this rendition of the song is too happy and completely lost the emotional gravity the song is suppose to portray.
Josh Gray you're completely right
Gotta disagree. This is amazing and I can feel the emotion in it. That being said, it's not supposed to be like the broadway version. ;3
Totally love this over and over
This is a completely different arrangement and concept from the original. This has power on its own, and not within the context of the musical. Well done!
Krypto Knight
Is the version in the musical different?
Who let Steve Martin get a hold of the Wicked libretto? I love this version
She has a great voice, but I don't like how upbeat this sounds. It doesn't match the lyrics.
I feel like maybe it could be saved, at least a bit, with the upward leaps where they seemed most obvious but didn't happen.
That guitar player though....O.G. cast member
that's right!
Chasing those twisters in the canyon…. Love it!
I wasn’t a fan of how happy and cheerful they made the song but she does have a beautiful voice
The tone is a bit too happy but all in all I really really like it! Well done!
Guitar No Good Deed cover? Oof. Little too happy, but I love her voice and the violin
Her vocals are gorgeous, BUT how could you do that to one of my favorite Wicked songs?! Country is no good deed for that song, god damn it!
2:10
Can we get her to sing Leave Luanne? Because her angry bop, dug my keys into the side attitude would work miracles there.
She definitly has the talent to perform this song well, but its too nice! Its too upbeat and happy!
Anyone else getting Jolene vibes from this arrangement?
This is brilliant! Is Out of Oz available for purchase? I am just finding these recordings. I love them!
Loved this! I don’t know why it’s getting hate smh
Like it
Please someone write lyrics for me?
