The fields, forests, and overall landscape of the map is great and feels natural and realistic. But the town is very “copy and paste” feeling. The streets are so barren too like it feels like I’m in Garry’s mod sometimes. Hopefully they’ll get better at making urban settings. Mortains town is just lacking some life. Also I hate how there are just thousands of planes flying over mortain in the skirmish version of the map. No paratroopers we’re dropping that late into the Normandy campaign and they especially weren’t dropping into mortain. It’s just way too silly and kills the vibe of the historical accuracy this game USED to pride itself on
I agree that a few more house/building assets would be good to give the town more variety. But Carentan has the same issue in fairness. Lots of copy/paste there too.
When i play the map i can really feel it is made by the new developers, it has a different vibe to it. I do like the vibe I just need to play it a bit more.
Imo, a new S Tier Map for me. I love forest, uphill and urban fighting, so this map is perfect. Remagen is great (if there wasn't the bridge), Kharkov is even better (but a bit too open sometimes), so Mortain is perfect
The map visually is amazing. There’s tons of vegetation which can be tough. I think with this new development team creating new maps the sky is the ceiling. Excited for more maps in the future!
Only played one game so far. As an MG player, seemed like there were limited places to setup. Hedgerow walls are too steep so you can’t setup the bipod.
I really like the map and yea the time and effects of the weathering feels a lot better compared to the other maps that either cut of visibility and just aren’t fun or just don’t do anything compared to this one which actually has a fun playable weathering
So many bushes to hide in, i had a crazy game, and my team with random people did a really good job. First game in the new map and one of the best games in a few days. we had 2100 attack points and we had between 40-110 kills on the team. One thing, the city were abit hard to defend, like its too open on one side.
I wish we had a map like this back when I started playing. But the spirit of the old maps before they got updated is there. Maybe it's because we are all learning how to best play the map on both sides, but I have had a blast playing various roles. Tank commanding has been the most challenging and fun.
I'll be happy once the perf issues are fixed. I know what the base issue is, and it won't be a simple fix. The scenes ARE very visually rich and well made. Save me Flerg!
My grand parents are living in Mortain since 1920s and lived through the German offensive. I know the town like my pocket since I am a child, so nice to see it ported in a fps game!:)

I really liked the map, there was this one issue where I spawned on a garisson and it put me inside a building that I couldn't exit otherwise great map.
Im hoping this is a new era for Team 17 and the game itself. I know the roadmap showed very little for this year but I'm sure they are planning on more than what they were ready to show.
Really hard to win when you are attacking in offensive game mode. So easy for the defensive team to pinpoint directional attacks, flank those attacks unseen through bushes and take out those attacking garrison spawns. I've played like 5 games of offensive mode and it appears with a half-decent team on defense and only a couple defensive garrisons, holding the points is relatively easy. German defensive camp and hill 13 are prime examples with the existing trench systems for cover.
Let’s not forget how you come within 15 feet of ANYTHING on fire and you burst in flames. I was in a Tank riding past the Convoy and we IN A TANK drove past a burning tank on the road and we all caught fire IN THE TANK lol fire on this map has more range which I kind of strangely like but not if I’m IN A TANK

Wish I could play the game but every time I try to play I get disconnected they need to really put a patch out so many console players have had the issue for a while I love the game and have not been able to play for years maybe one day😞
It is a good design for a map. For me I do not like it, I constantly get domed out of no where and cannot see the enemies very good with all the foliage. Although every time I have played it the capture points have all been in the forest areas so that might be why I am not having the best time.
Playing Offense on this map is impossible. Can’t see where anyone is firing from. People camping everywhere. Tanks on Defense can hangout with a couple of blueberries to cover their flanks and have a field day. Engineering is easy on Defense because all you gotta do is put up a few barbed wire fences and barricades and you’re golden for a while. Artillery on Defense is easy because all you gotta do is fire behind the attacking sides hedgerows to detour the entire offensive attack. German offensive is harder because the grey uniforms stick out in the green fields or bushes. Warfare is more balanced because people need to play defense and offense. But if you had to choose this is definitely a defense happy map.
It's a good map but could be better. As a commander my garrisons can be easily flanked. I think they should add more destroyed vehicles in between openings . It's too easy to find garrisons imo.
I really enjoyed my first round on the map. I was in discord with my friend and we were like: Damn, feels good. Was a fun round. To the FPS drops: I'm not sure if the map is the problem or the servers. I experienced a lot of uge FPS drops in the last weeks. My friends also.
Yeah FPS drops have been pretty common. I remember when the Desert map came out and it was just crammed with bugs and fps drops. But it plays great now so I’m sure they’ll keep ironing it out :)
As a tanker main, I have HATED this map. I really enjoyed it when I played infantry on it the one time I have, but the few times I have tried playing it with tanks and the bois its just not fun. Most other maps, even the not so great maps, you can still have decent impact even with a bad team, and on the good maps even solo win the game. This map however it almost feel like you are 100% reliant on if you inf has peripheral vision or not. Maybe its just that its new and I havent learned the layout fully, but with the El Alamein rework being a lot worse for tanker (Still very playable though) im nervous about any new maps. Its just one of those maps that if im with a party I'll enjoy my time as a SQL or if im solo swap. Unlike the other bad tanks maps I'll actually really enjoy my time as inf
I don't think the city part looks any more copy/paste than the cities in any of the other maps though. Look at Carentan. Lots of the same buildings, same piles of rubble, etc.

The low hanging trees make it nearly impossible to see through as a tank spotter and every single leaf has collision for the tank shells. Meaning if you see another tank moving through the brush, you really won't be able to hit them because every little tree branch will block your shot
Not just that but endless brush for satchelers to hide in is ridiculous. When you think of the former worst tank maps, Hill 400 and Hurtgen, you can still at least see them when in a good tank crew. This map is dog poo for tanking all around.
Yeah, performance issues definitely, haha. (discretely loads up HLL on my gaming laptop with a gtx 1050 - as long as I'm over 35fps on potato-settings I'm just happy to a part of the war effort)
I used to run the game on a GTX 1050 as well lol. Try this - change your FOV from 90 to 120. It's a more zoomed out field of view which kinda sucks but you get used to it and it literally gave me about 10 fps more. It works on low spec computers because it's not loading the environment in and out as rapidly since the view is more zoomed out. Kinda like how when you use a sniper rifle your framerate tends to drop when you scope in.

Love the map layout but the details on the map is crap. It’s not as good as you describe in the video. Yes the foliage is nice but details in the town is crap and some of the ground detail is crap as well also the lack of not going into the church is dumb
the map is pretty average imo… it is better than the last maps they released but it shows again that they only care about their precious historical accuracy and do not care about balancing or making something cool… the town which is the best one we have in HLL is in narnia and you play it at most every third game and like how many times are you actually playing mortain… it is in nearly non map rotation bc everyone is tilted by all the bushcampers and it is just an unbalanced map we only have to look at the south cap… the devs had a great chance to give us hope again after the last updates where they fumbled every single one and imo mortain could be nice and playable if the town would be in the middle but they ruind this map aswell….
I agree about the town area, wish that was more in the middle of the map. But I still enjoy Mortain otherwise. It just plays a bit differently and requires different tactics.

What resolution do you play at? 1080p? 1440p? If 1080p you're fine with that setup. If 1440, it'll run but probably have to use medium/low graphics settings to get a good framerate (80+). I'm just guessing though..
@@Perica82 yea you should be good but if you can swing it obviously an even faster CPU is ideal. I forget what it's called but there's a website that lets you enter a cpu and GPU and it tells you if one will bottleneck the other and by how much. No sense in spending more on a faster CPU if the GPU bottlenecks it anyway.
Even with the performance issues, it's still a waaaaaaaay better map than Driel or Purple Heart Pain. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better. Open up them churches to us nonbelievers and fucking A bubba!
Haven't tried yet but outside of the town I imagine it's like SMDM where there isn't anywhere to mount the MG and you can go prone cuz the grass blocks your vision.
Nah the foliage makes u hidden so u won't get one shot the moment u fire for more then 5 seconds, all u need to do is blindly fire at the position where the enemies are (look at where the friendlies are fighting or firing at which direction)
THIS. MAP. IS. GARBAGE. Literally the biggest terrain feature of this map is bushes. Bush combat. YOU NEVER want bush combat. It’s literally the worst experience in the game possible and the map is built around it. This map is bad. Probably top 3 worst right next to driel. I don’t know what they plan on doing or what their thinking cause it seems like their not or just don’t care. But look at the great maps like carentan, hurtgen forest, El Alamein and meet that standard. Those maps are dripping with depth and love. These are not

I got 26 kills my first match on this map on my first try. They put a garrison in a big tent and I just kept killing them like crazy.

This map has been coming into my rotation more recently and I absolutely love it. This maps gives me hope for the future of the game.

Interestingly enough, we found that in this map the Stewie is king. Can easily flank and destroy a german heavy with so much cover

I think this is going to be my issue with playing sniper too. Poor sightlines in many areas of the map.
A little birdy did tell me the tree leaves blocking tank rounds issue is being fixed though ...

It’s a good map but you can defiantly see how the devs want you to play. This can be a good and a bad thing as it limits player freedom in game.

Nah the foliage makes u hidden so u won't get one shot the moment u fire for more then 5 seconds, all u need to do is blindly fire at the position where the enemies are (look at where the friendlies are fighting or firing at which direction)

THIS. MAP. IS. GARBAGE. Literally the biggest terrain feature of this map is bushes. Bush combat. YOU NEVER want bush combat. It’s literally the worst experience in the game possible and the map is built around it.
This map is bad. Probably top 3 worst right next to driel.
I don’t know what they plan on doing or what their thinking cause it seems like their not or just don’t care. But look at the great maps like carentan, hurtgen forest, El Alamein and meet that standard. Those maps are dripping with depth and love. These are not
Crashes on series X still and the game suffers with stutters, love your content but the poor state of the console version really needs addressing, that or they need to admit there's issues and offer refunds - a very ticked off milsim fan confused why it's largely ignored by the community when you have millions of gamepass subscribers getting a poor opinion of the game

this game has alot of absolute dogshit maps, i know theyre made to be realistic but i think the new dev studio actually did a better job on this map than black matter did on alot of the original ones
