- If you’re a woman who is part of Generation X or the baby boomers, then you probably, like me, spent your Monday nights growing up watching one of America’s most enduring and endearing TV series. The show followed the wholesome Ingalls family and their life in Walnut Grove, Minnesota in the 1800s, loosely based on the books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. The show’s star was Melissa Gilbert who played little Laura Ingalls, an optimistic, curious and mischievous young girl who quickly became America’s sweetheart. The pilot for the show aired 50 years ago on March 30th on NBC and the series ran for a remarkable nine seasons. Melissa joins The Excerpt to talk about the show's outsized impact on American culture and share her experience being part of it.

I loved little house on the praries it was awesome 👌
I think The Brady Bunch is another show that has really never been off the air which is classic
I absolutely love her
I would love to meet her, because I ❤ her movies and when she was in little house in paraire I don't live in California in Florida
As a child in the 90's Germany we had reruns of this Shows i loved A little House ,Highway to Heaven, i Dream of Jeannie i watched it at my Grandparents House.
Good job nice story
When I watch it now I'm still awe struck that the ones I loved are actually gone I get acting Hollywood etc not their real lives but the fact that character of them is gone even my love of victor French
I wished ML was my dad, I was one of those kids
AND DAILY ON FRENCH TV " THE LITTLE HOUSE IN THE MEADOW " continu
Every year I watch something strikes different for instance grew up a fundamental Baptist preacher kid, today I converted to Orthodox Judaism and that one episode of the Jew making his coffin UNLESS YOU UNDERSTAND JEWS AND JUDAISM which as a child of course I didn't whew wow that one alone how boxes tissues I went through
I remember that episode so well! Even as a child it touched me deeply and I would watch it again many times and take in what this man was saying to young Albert.
Too young to describe it 🤦♀️🤣🤣🤣shame on them....is there really ANY WORDS WORTHY IN OUR DICTIONARY that could adequately do so? I THINK NOT ...parents are deemed abusive for keeping such a treasure away from today's youth 🤪😵💫🤣 I have a yrly ritual of two week binge vacation of every season plus specials uninterrupted replayed 🥰 much easier now that I'm single in my 50s this is pure midlife BALM
