I have a 1/570 Titanic & 1/400 QE2 What I am about to suggest will sound crazy but I painted all the portholes on both: yellow on the Titanic silver on QE2. Obviously a long tedious project in and of itself but well worth it. People always ask what the, "little dots" are along the hull. Their mouths drop when I tell them the portholes because they finally realize just how HUGE the ships really were!
the andrea doria was smaller then the titanic but more interesting i wish there where more ships from the 1900s like the queen mary in would be a wonder to have all the amzing ships still here
Well you still have the S.S. United States in Philadelphia, RMS Queen Mary Long beach ,You have the QE2 in Dubai and you the Star of India in San Diego...
Very nice model with the 2 once plaid folk art pure gold on the decks is IT a light coating becuase I serched up plaid folk art pure golf and its linda dark
Hey Wolf! I used masking tape. If you start painting the hull red ( bottom and partial sides ) leave about a quarter of the sides untapped and tape the entire upper hull Bow to stern ( straight line ) and spray paint ( can ).. then cover the red part with masking tape when dry and leave upper hull covered as well and paint middle black. when dry peel bottom tape away as well as upper.
im only 12 but ships have already fascinated me my favirotes are the titanic andrea doria theirs many more i like but the queen mary is amazing the orignal ship
The Andrea Doria was an amazing ship she was built in Genoa Italy, 700 Ft long and weighed 30,000 tons. It's great that you like ocean liners not too many youngsters like yourself are into ocean liners... You should check out the Ile De France, she picked up the Andrea Doria survivors.

@@CaptainSmith23 sorry I've have two more questions I am having trouble finding which metallic plaid you used I searched it up and there was a bunch and also did you a airbrush to paint the ship or by hand and what color did you use for the hull and funnels sorry if this is long I like the queen Mary because my grandpa told me about and aunt works there and I went to California Friday and Saturday and got a personal tour by my aunt's manager thank you very much again
The company that has this paint is named Folk Art and paint color is PLAID. google, Metallic plaid paint and you'll see there for a $1.00. I spray painted the hull with spray can. You have to cover three quarters of the model , paint bottom first ( red ) let it dry, when dried cover red part and then take tape and cover very top part of the super structure ( Windows )so you don't paint it entirely black ( superstructure is black and white ). '''''' FolkArt Metallic Acrylic Paint 2oz - Pure Gold ''''''. all decks brush painted. Funnels, Tuscan red paint and lifeboats blue Sapphire metallic plaid. WalMart or hobby lobby carry them...
Irasemar. By the way the windows are NOT painted. use black tape and put it on the inside ( before you glue it all together ) to make it look like it was painted.

Charming! Couldn't you take the 0.5 mm black fineliner and mark all portholes and windows at the white-painted area, at least??? And, after all, this will be called a "well-done" model?
hi captin smith its me julian i. went aboard the queen mary on October 1st ot was really fun and it was a huge ship hope i can go on my birth day wich is a week after halloween
Hi Julian, how are you? So you went aboard the RMS Queen Mary? excellent. Did you take photos and live footage of the liner? Happy Birthday Julian and stay safe on Halloween night. So what did you see at the Queen Mary?. Engine room, propellers? She is a very big ship, 1,018 ft long.
CaptainSmith23 hi captain its me juliaan again hope you remember me i did go aboard the QUEEN MARY a little bit over a year ago but sorry to correct you captain but the queen mary is 1019.5 feet in lenght 113 feet in width and 829.8 feet tall gross tonnage 81,000 tons like i said i do apologize for correcting you captain all do respect sir 😁😇
Hello mark! all ok so far... I got some replicas of the 1970s Greyhound bus, thought I would make a vid soon. Like old ocean liners i like old buses and planes.
Hello Octavio. I did not paint the white parts. Keep it original. And I used black tape for windows ( use black tape for windows but put tape on inside of windows )
I have been working on this same model for a few weeks now and I have finally finished it. It's not as good as yours but I'm proud of it as it was my first model I painted. I had a Titanic model but never painted it. I have a question for the hull I used masking tape to spray paint the hull but the paint would leak under the tape. It cause a lot of problems. What could I do to stop this on future models?
Hello Jody. well masking tape does work but you have to run your fingers over the tape three or four times due to the detail of the hull, that's what I do to keep the paint from running.. If you have a little bit of running take paint thinner and a cue tip and remove the paint right away!
To be honest I don't know how to post on RUclips. I just watch from my phone. Thanks for the advice to. I'm think about getting Bismarck or SS United States for my next model.
I'm currently working on this same model, after I'm finished with it I'll build the Oriana. I have a few questions: I'm not sure if I should paint the Oriana with the original colors, or paint it like the Queen Mary And where did you get those rings (not sure what they are called exactly) that you used to tie the strings from the funnels and masts to?
Amazing kit, and amazing build
thank you so much.

Masking tape for straight lines on the hull would help and the rings on the funnels are black...black marker can do that

it's all spray paint. used masking tape to get the lines some what straight.

Rigging. I used thread but doubled it up to make it look thicker, folded and Glued together.
