Best way to learn strumming - is to keep air-strumming your right hand to the eight-notes and Think of a strumming pattern ( for example: bam, bam, bam-bam-ba-bamm) and touch strings on the Bam. Works instantly with those, who failed overthinking of down-ups.

@@aeea3306 "an upstroke is a pluck, like plucking a hair out of a chicken, it's bouncy and explosive" and "a downstroke, is like pushing somebody". and then he talks about punk music being all downstrokes and plays an example. when he goes up and down, the same riff sounds loose and dancey. then he says "if you wanna be tough, you can't upstroke yourself into toughness." then he says "if you want to shake butt" you incorporate the upstroke.

I like to imagine my arm is a metronome. I move up-down-up-down-up-down, to keep the rhythm, and only touch the strings when needed.
If a song is down-down-down-up-down, usually the up would be on the off-beat, and I would move my arm as if doing down-up-down-up-down-up-down-up, but only strum when relevant

When I first started playing guitar my brain couldn't get around up up down up down left right X B START shit, so from the start I've been just doing what the song sounds like, although I'm sure I've messed up some strumming patterns. But I guess I've never realized that's actually really cool that I start doing that super early.
