Curious ... how much does your program cost ? I'm seriously interested and would like to budget my finances. You're an awesome teacher with a no bullshit style 😎 I've been following ya for a while now Brandon, keep up the good work ! 💀Suicidal ArchAngel Michael ❤️🔥
This is exactly what I needed today..been playing guitar a little over 5 years now.. Recently I feel like I'm not getting any better. slacking off a bit at practice. Thanks Brother. I really appreciate it. Will get back to the grind again 😊
Some great points, many of which resonate. I do appreciate that focusing on one aspect locks it in, but I'm at a point now where I can just pick up a guitar & enjoy playing it... So, more often than not, that's what I do, rather than actually practicing... I am slowly adding theory knowledge & techniques, but as I move forward, the motivations have changed from when I first started out... Recently, I've found playing at guitar jams & getting/giving tips with other guitarists has been a really positive thing to do.
Option paralysis is my BIGGEST problem. I recently got a teacher after 20 years of just messing around with the same shit and not getting better, and he doesn't help with this problem either. Every week he just throws new shit at me without checking how I'm doing with the shit he threw at me last week. I'm completely lost.
Same issue here. Found a tutor who was willing to write me a weekly practice checklist. Every week he gives me 3-4 daily practice objectives on a post it. I save all the post its on a page in my practice folder, so I can always go back to objectives I need refreshing on.
I'm sure there are good teachers out there. Sounds like you should quit that one, and try some others. It's probably like kissing frogs to find a prince.
LMAO....I am not sure about how much I like your approach to your videos, BUT, I cannot argue with what you are saying,lol....I was that guy in almost all 8 examples until I decided to learn all the new shit, took me a few years and I now see that the more I learn , the more I dont know. I am now a guitar player who knows what I need to practice to be able to play what I want to play live :)
Just discovered you and I’m in process of quitting smoking. So, I’m ready. Modes are so easy, I wanna improvise and modulate at will with players who don’t listen to themselves when they jam with others. Like bro, I held down the rhythm for your Linear Pentatonic music, then my turn, and no Rhythm. You gotta hold it down before you melt faces. Hey, you ever let that Tele play Clean? Great Teacher, motivation and killer playing
I felt this in my soul man. I’ve been playing guitar for 16 years but yet I feel like I somewhat stopped progressing years ago. Although I will say my vibrato has definitely improved and I’ve actually written some pretty damn good solos for my own songs. My biggest problem is I don’t play with other people due to anxiety.
Great video! Inspired me to finally fucking learn every note on the fretboard. Try this friends: Find some way to randomly pick a note on the fretboard. Start with just the first fret. Do this 300 times. Add the second fret and do those 300 times. Add the third fret and do those 300 times. Add the fourth fret and do those 300 times. Not only do you notice that your exercise time per fret gets less with each addition but you will notice that the time it takes you to correctly identify the notes decreases even though you are adding more notes each round. Thanks B!!!
Hi Brandon, I trust you are well. My name is Robert and I'm from South Africa. I am a beginner guitar player and have a few problems. Firstly, being from South Africa, our currency is so bad that if you do the conversion from Rands to Dollars, I can not afford to do your course. Secondly, my job requires me to travel all over the country, I'm part of a sales team so I spend my time working and living with the guys I work with and every time I pick up my guitar to practice I get nothing but complaints and negative comments, which really makes me not want to try anymore. Thirdly, I really don't understand music theory, which really sucks, my dad was a keyboard player for a few bands back in the late 60's and 70's, he is classically trained and knows theory backwards but even when he tries to explain it to me it just doesn't sink in. I really enjoy your videos and have learned a lot from watching your stuff. Keep up the great work, it really helps. Thank you.
Personally I would allow 3 years to really properly get your head around music theory. But having said that, it is DEFINITELY worth putting the time in for it.
I took lessons for a good while and while there was definite learning there, I felt my lessons lacked the structure I was looking for (even when I voiced I was looking for more structure). My issue is after you learn all this 'shit' ...it's the integration of it all. Loving all the new long form vids Brandon. 👍
30 yrs ago,you picked it up from friends who played. I got lucky I went from lead vocals to wanting to play. I had all my old guitarists who were willing to help. And in time andlots, lots ,lots of practice. You boys out there should try playing metallica 8mnths pregnant😂 Seriously a good teacher is gold
This was helpful. In retrospect some of the topics you discussed are obvious, but the affirmation is motivating. I did quit the cigarettes. Halfway to glory. Thanks for the video!
Absolutely bang on with your "option paralysis" statement. Guilty as charged here. I must have hundreds of videos saved. I even get overwhelmed with my guitar classes with too much info so I recently decided to simplify. With the help of my instructor, we have built a plan in which I concentrate on only a few things right now. Theory, specifically scales and modes, chords and rhythm......and practice, practice, practice. I have noticed an improvement with my playing already. 👍
He's like the Dicaprio of the guitar world with those sudden bursts of anger XD. Except I wouldn't mind to be on his film, and learn something worthwhile. But enough of the popcorn. What I know nobody taught me, I might just know nothing.
25 yo and ive been at it for a week now. I learned a very small amount as a kid so idk if that helps, but man this thing just clicks with my brain. Everyone around me is surprised by how quickly im progressing and its super motivating ((:
I guess you took down the last video you put up, good move,Looking foward to see it up again with out mistakes, youre only human and it happens.have a great day.
Brendon, I ne been playing for over 50yrs as a pro You are so young and at the same time you speak so simple and wise, and, ONLY THE ONES WHO REALLY UNDERSTAND MUSIC CAN EXPLAIN THING SIMPLY, so many times I encountered guitarist who when asked why had "because" as the ONLY answer, so, I sincirely recomend your way to EVERY young enthusiast KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK,👍💪🔥
Great resources that give a good methodology for progress are Frank Vignola’s Modern Method course on Truefire and Steve Herberman’s Fundamentals Checkpoint on Mike’s Master Classes. They’re both jazz guys but both courses provide solid fretboard orientation in a methodical and efficient way. Good roadmaps both.
Pro tip for intermediates: stay away from sweeps. I know, they are awesome. But they are VERY easy if you just practiced arpeggios with alternate picking. However, its very difficult the other way around.
Just wanted to shout out that I appreciate the concise bursts of information that you give yin your videos. They're useful, and easy to build on. One question, though, and I suppose this is personal--did you ever see the PowerThirst commercials?
7:18 NGL, great stuff to practice to get better at writing parts. Also, what I have noticed about people who argue for NOT learning Theory ALWAYS say dumb shit like "Hendrix didn't know theory" or ""Eddie Van Halen didn't know theory". Apparently no one had the heart to tell those people that they aren't either of those players. And yes they even those guys knew some Music Theory even if they didn't know that's what it was called.
One really stupid and basic thing I realized with technique is that the pinky is the most important finger. You can have both the most and least tension created from that distance and helps the rest of your hand properly position itself.
When I started taking guitar lessons, my mom had told the teacher that I already knew stuff about guitar because she had assumed that I knew how to change chords and stuff like that. She thought this cause I was experimenting with it in my room pretty often. So when it came time to my first lesson the teacher didn’t teach me any basics. No open chords, no strumming patterns or anything. So the first song he taught me was “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and it was difficult to say the least. So now that I’ve stopped going there I’ve began learning the basics but now I’m stuck on where to put my fingers when I’m looking at tabs.
…..started guitar late in life but bc I have strong pattern recognition it pulled me in right away…. And while I lack LOTS of reps at least I don’t have to know what it’s like to be intimidated by music theory….. 😅
When it comes to being an intermediate guitar player. Some overcome hurdles by finding a guitar teacher, some by figuring it out on their own, and some never figure it out. Once I ship off to the Air Force, I’m gonna find a guitar teacher!
As a former classical musician who is now a noobie on guitar, it's strangely comforting, seeing everyone's excuses for not practicing and learning new material. 😂
My fav songs is flames thorough the fire i can remember every single detail of sounds in my mind Till i try it self on guitar my finger cant event follow my mind 😢
I never considered doing scales like you did. I've done it a bit but not as full scales but parts of scales. But thinking now if I'm doing box on 3-4 string why not break out of that and do the scale down back and up back. Then scales by intervals, music theory there. I like learning music theory. It's something I can do when I'm not physically practicing. Like after the I practiced and I want something else to do.
‘They tell you time is money like your life was worth its weight in gold’ - Bob Dylan I figure I can play about 5 scales a minute, so 25 times when I set my timer to 5 minutes. So 1,000 reps after 40-5 minute sets, so a total of a bit over 3 hours.
I’ve gotten to the level where I can play 99% of the songs I’d ever want to learn and play them pretty damn good. I might even fool you into thinking I’m not intermediate. I still can’t improvise to save my life and putting off actually learning what it is that I’m already doing. Seems tough to take the next step without proper lessons
Ya spot on, I've lost interest for years , as soon as I try pick up again, I'm in that rut again n put it down for months again. A lot of points ya made is why I do that
Hey Brandon, Hope all is good, I’m looking to try push myself to an intermediate level of playing after 2 years of strumming chords and just learning songs but more trying to extract the techniques Could you maybe do a video on what one can do as I’m interested in theory (albeit do struggle to sight read) and quite happy to learn scales etc but it’s more an idea what can be done to push me and others. Michael ❤️🔥
Brandon’s anger and aggression towards us being too lazy to challenge ourselves on guitar is hilarious. Time to play video games and smoke cigarettes.
candidly couldn't see myself working with this guy in any capacity if he weren't better at guitar than me seems insufferable
💀💀💀😭😭
today I start my path to the advanced level
Yep same lol but I'll start in the morning cuz it's 1am lmfao
yeah I need advance forwards
Any updates?
He didn't do it 😂
Been 5 months, how you doing?
10:00 Damn, dude. That was DEEP. Sounds like what happens if you don't learn the quadratic formula.😢
This is exactly what I needed today..been playing guitar a little over 5 years now.. Recently I feel like I'm not getting any better. slacking off a bit at practice.
Thanks Brother.
I really appreciate it.
Will get back to the grind again 😊
This guy single handedly gives the best advice on the fucking internet...❤❤
Check out stitch method guitar
@@MrMick50 He's awesome. Probably his is the best CAGED masterclass. But Brandon's editing and presentation is unbeaten.
Bro taught us from his heart ..this channel is so amazing..really hits me
I could watch this guy all day. Cussing and calling people stupid is my love language
Some great points, many of which resonate.

Love the honesty, you hit the nail on the head. I know what I’m avoiding… I will go practice now.

This is amazing. You’re a great speaker. No bullshit and insanely straight to the point.
Honestly, these vids from Brandon is great, very clear and true. Just found this channel today….rate it
this video spoke directly to me. Noodling around with the scales, trying to find new ways to make it sound cool. Feel like I have a path forward now.
been waiting for you to make this video for a while now, so thank you sir! you have helped me improve drastically.
Another outstanding video, Brandon. Thanks very much for these (its the only channel where I consistently show up to be yelled at lol)
“Try using what little creativity you have….” 😂
Savage.
This is the most Important video I have watched since start learning Guitar. Thank you Brandon. ❤

This video is pure gold
Keep doing this. I think you're doing it very well and I want to see more! Also it made me practice, so thank you 😎
As a literal college musician a lot of what Brandon says is true, music takes time and familiarity but so does anything worth doing imo
Personally I would allow 3 years to really properly get your head around music theory. But having said that, it is DEFINITELY worth putting the time in for it.

This is all hard to eat and swallow, but as a 35 year intermediate guitarist you're dead on as to what an intermediate guitarist is lol.

That sure beats my 'blind' daily practice, really needed the next steps. THX4that muchly
Good job 👍😁❤
Your a smart ass bastard, who’s earned his place, I may just have to buy your course. 😂
Finally a clear video
Loving the intensity!!
A lot of truths here

i actually like music theory, it was really easy to understand
This vid hits me hard 😢😂
You have to want playing guitar well more than anything if you want to be great. It has to be your priority
Hello Brandon when you have time please do a video about

Hey Brandon,
Hope all is good, I’m looking to try push myself to an intermediate level of playing after 2 years of strumming chords and just learning songs but more trying to extract the techniques

I know it doesn't matter and many viewers are cool with the F bomb.
......Moving on elsewhere for that simple reason. Cheers
Bro that’s pretty cool
First !!🎉 And hopefully this will help (it helped)
How much is the course, why can’t the price just be shown and not hidden…
10:24 so real
@6:00
I was drinking a beer and smoking cigarete, had just turned Halo off 😅😅
idk why but 10:13 made me let out a continuous massive giggle,
It took me 5 years to play the Locrian mode 1,000 times
These problems pretty much apply to Bass guitar too , i would know 😅
You are a great teacher, and have great teaching, though I don't enjoy the harshness of your speaking, I know it isn't all serious but since I watchedthe "why guitar isn't for you" video that's more genuine I stopped seeing it just as a joke
True that
To learn the solo from "Strutter" by Kiss in three weeks I played it more than 300 times and despite that I still I suck!
I promise I've watched more guitar videos on RUclips, than I have practiced real guitar.
Regarding theory: i enrolled in a music conservatoire with my daughter. Im 49 shes 11. We're both in grade one, and she kicks my ass. 😅
