Nice! I'm taking notes. The graphic novel sounds interesting.
I might do a video on graphic novels
@@browngirlreading Please do :)
Just discovered your channel. I’m loving it and binge watching all your videos 😊😊😊😊
Welcome! Yay! Thank you!
Yes yes and yes! I have been waiting for this. OMG I been on and off booktube for a few months. So glad you are better. So many gems here as usual.
So great to see you back with a lovely pic. Yes I'm much beer but will have to undergo n operation in J+une to remove the plate nd screws in my leg.
Glad to find your channel love the books you read
Love it when you give us so many good recommendations xx
Thanks for watching! Hope you aren't disappointed with any of them.
Watching the first few seconds of this video makes me uncertain if I should laugh or cry with your wishes for 2020... We had no idea what was about to hit us!
Finally! I've been waiting for you. I hope I've read at least a couple - though, unfortunately I've been in a reading coma for months lol. Ready to get back at it. Thanks for the video! Just seeing Bookdepository links. Thanks so much.
Ready with my screenshots . Oprah’s voice you get five stars , you get five stars ☺️
I love how your face lit up when you began talking about “The Count”. Yes! I was here for “The Count” too.
The Count will be forever in mind.
I love Attica Locke. Eagerly awaiting book 3.
Becoming was definitely on my list as well
The Highway 59 series sounds fantastic! I recently got back into reading mystery, so I've added Attica Locke's books to my TBR. And The Nickel Boys is on everyone's favorites list so that I going to the top of my TBR for 2020. Happy New Year! Hope you have a better 2020.
Yes Attica Locke is a wonderful storyteller.I hope 2020 is better for everyone too!
Thank you for the recommendations. I hope 2020 is better for you ❤️
Thank you! I feel like 2020 is going to be a great year.
I love The Count of Monte Cristo too, the epitome of revenge dramas! Hopefully I can get to Colson Whitehead's book some time in 2020.
I'm sold on Eleanor Oliphant & West Mills. Peta's review of West Mills had already peaked my interest.
You bring out an excellent point about Whitehead's writing style .It's a style I want to try & get use to. Through the years I've gotten so use to the woman's voice in the things I read.
I think a lot of us have but we're not willing to admit it.
Happy New Year, Didi, and thanks again for hosting the Readalong of the Count - it was such a fantastic re-read for me!!!! And I am a great fan of Blanche as well :))))
Thank you for participating!
You're right, Red at the Bone is amazing, and you know I loved The Nickel Boys. I definitely need to pick up Born on a Tuesday soon - it's been on my wishlist for a couple years now.
Definitely read it. It's perfection!
I really enjoyed Love In Vain as well - such beautiful artwork! I put Infidel on my TBR after your review, so I hope that I get to it this year. I read Becoming in 2019 as well - just wow. I flew through it.
Born on a Tuesday added to wishlist. I hope your leg's doing better. My mother-in-law broke her wrist recently and she's doing physical therapy as well.
It's doing a lot better but it needs to recuperate lost muscle. It's going to take time. Hope your mother-in-law recuperates quickly. PT is brilliant for that!
I had my notebook ready so I could write down your recommendations XD
I am nearly finished reading Becoming right now and wow- what a person!
Yes Michelle Obama is really something!
Great wrap-up. I read some of those and agree with you and I also got a few recommendations. Happy New Year 🎈🎊🎆
Thank you!
I’m sorry you broke your leg last year, and hope you are healed & healthy. I am newer to Booktube and love your reviews! Thank you!
Thanks for asking! All healed up now.
Happy New Year!
It's been a while since I've read an anthology so I'd be really keen to pick up The Word and I'd be interested to know how these authors developed into readers/writers.
And I've had Born on a Tuesday since it came out so I really need to get to it. So great you got to help translate at the event with the author! I'm also really keen to read Red at the Bone Now.
It was interesting interpreting for Elnathan John. He's brilliant! You should definitely read Born on a Tuesday.
Dear Ancestors sounds amazing. Thanks for introducing me to it.
It is. CP Patrick is brilliant!
thanks for introducing me to Attica Locke! The Highway 59 series sounds amazing
Everything she's written is interesting. Happy reading!
I have had Eleanor on my lists for the longest, Hope I get to it 😩! Never heard of “In West Mills” 👀. Now it’s on my radar! You vocalized everything about Colson Whitehead. Unapologetically male is SO accurate. I believe it’s because his male voice doesn’t make my eyes roll ( that explained absolutely nothing lol, but it is detailed and really brings you into the mindset of whoever his characters are). Lastly, Red at the bone man! I will just leave it there, but Jacqueline is so good. Loved your list ❤️
CW is definitely my book bae these days. I can say he's really gotten me into the male voice. Yes to In West Mills you're going to love it!
The Count Of Monte Cristo novel is much better than the movies, including the 2002 adaptation (which is a fantastic film). The novel is hard to put down, though you have to dedicate time to read it. Didi's reading schedule on Goodreads is a excellent one to follow if you want to read this novel and lessen any possible intimidation you may feel about the novel's size. Didi's mentioned edition and the Everyman's Library edition are both well constructed and worth you visiting your local book store to take a look at these editions.
Thank you Nasi!
Book journal is such a good idea. I'm usually just making things up by the end of the year! lol
It really is!
Thank YOU for hosting the read-a-long for "The Count of Monte Cristo"! I was always intimidated by its size so never picked it up until you presented the opportunity (and the wonderful reading guide). Looking forward to your next classic read-a-long!!!
You are so welcome! Glad you joined in.
@@browngirlreading where do we join these read alongs please?
So glad i found your channel! You and Kamil are my faves now!
Awww Thanks so much! Love Kamil's videos too!
Happy New Year, my dear friend!!!
Happy New Year!
I’m currently reading The Nickel Boys, Girl ,Woman,Other
Praise Song For The Butterflies
The Death of Noah Glass
Say Nothing ( non fiction)
The first book I finished in 2020 was
The Hunting Party ( thriller)
Added “A House for Mr Biswas” and “Born on a Tuesday” to my scribd account. It’s been so long since I wanted to read the latter one. I remember you talking about for the first time few years ago.
Hope you like them both Kamil!
Hi Didi! You know I’m taking notes and adding to my TBR list 🤗
Hope I don't steer you wrong. :)
Not a chance 😊
Great List! Naipaul was a perfect example of a bad person who could write great novels.
Loved _Heaven, My Home_ . I thought it was better than _Bluebird, Bluebird_ which I also liked. Being from East Texas makes these books resonate with me.
I will look for _The Word_
Agreed Heaven, My Home was even better. Bluebird, bluebird sets everything up. Hope you enjoy The Word!
What an excellent, year end wrap up! I enjoyed every word. I just adored “The Count...” (Thank you for the read a long). “Infidel” was fascinating and “The Word” was like memory lane for me from many favorite authors. I’m looking forward to “Red At The Bone,”
“Born On A Tuesday” and “In West Mills.” Happy Reading! I can’t wait to see what inspires you next.
Thanks Rosa for suggesting The Word! I know you're going to enjoy Red at the bone, Born on a Tuesday, and In West Mills. :)
OMFG!!! So I found your blog accidentally and I'm so GLAD i did, gonna definitely follow all your vlogs. Your recs sounds completely right up my alley cuz i really love some of the books mentioned in there ... Thankyouu for adding to my tbr!🖤🖤🖤
Great I'm so glad you found it!
Wow'! You had a fantastic reading year! Definitely adding Love in Vain to my graphic novel TBR. Looks amazing. I got Infidel for $1 at a book sale this summer and can't wait to read it. I know it is going to be an eye-opener. I absolutely love the Blanche series. When I finished the books, I remember wanting to write to the author and tell her to write some more because Blanche is so good. I wish they would make a mini series. I own one of Attica Locke's books (Black Water Rising) but I have been meaning to get to her series. Adding 'The Word' to my TBR it sounds good. Nickel Boys was really good. I am so grateful that he wrote that book because I would never have heard anything about that school it was based on. Bought Red at the Bone but not read it yet. But the one the two books you mentioned that you have me intrigued are In the West and Born on a Tuesday. I am very curious now. Thanks for another great video. It's always a treat to see you. Have a great day my friend!
Yes agreed on writing Barbara -Neeley and asking her to write more stories with Blanche. I just lover everything about those books.
The Word is definitely on my list!! Loved watching your list, wishing you a Happy New Year 🎆 😊
Happy New Year to you too and enjoy The Word!
Thank you for the recommendations. I’ve added many of them to my list.
You're so welcome! Hope your reading is doing well.
Definitely going to your blog now. What a wealth of books to add to my tbr. Thanks, Didi. All good things for this coming year.
Thanks Alba! I'm looking forward to your top reads. Hope things are getting better there. Less tremors I hope?
@@browngirlreading Another big one (6.0, downgraded to 5.99 🙄) this Saturday morning at 9am. I too, hope it starts calming down soon.
Seems like some pretty interesting books. Haven't read any of them.
Awesome list! Lots of stuff I need to get to and some stuff I read and loved as well.
Thank you!
Yeah I'm with you on the Eleanor Oliphant - I'm not sure I want to see the movie either. Very simple plot and the way the author carries the voice throughout the novel. I enjoyed your whole video and glad I found your channel!
Welcome! :)
I love your reviews! Thank you and God bless.
Glad you like them! Thank you so much!
Blessings to you Didi, your top books were so inspiring." The Count " pushed all my buttons 😭😂🤔🙄😍, really need to look at "vain" and "Tuesday".
And to you too! Hope you'll enjoy them as much as I did.
Happy New Year 🥳☘️👋🤩📚🙏
Happy New Year to you too!
I frickin LOVE when I see you in my new videos to watch section! Makes me soooo happy. I love your content. Now on to watching the video with a nice big cup of coffee....
Awww Thank so much! I really appreciate your support! Enjoy!
Happy New Year! Red at the Bone is my next read for this month. I have The Nickel Boys and In West Mills on my list to read this year. I read The Water Dancer was my last read for 2019 for this month's book club and there's so much to discuss with this book and it should be a great discussion.
I hope to get to the Water Dancer soon. I should have read it last year.
Thanks for the fantastic video Didi and Happy New Year to you and your family.
Thank you! Happy New you to you and yours!
Happy New Year!!!!
Happy New Year!
Just found your channel and love the positive, chill vibes and unique recs ✨💕
Thank you so much! Welcome!
I've been meaning to read _In West Mills_ for months. So glad you loved it.
I'm sure you'll enjoy it. very well written.
So I guess I need to read VS Naipal. Who knew? Thanks for reminding me about Heaven my Home, I loved Bluebird!
Yes you must.
Great video. Many of these books caught my eye. I’m really interested in some of those that lean more towards the mystery. And you may have convince me to consider The Count of Monte Cristo.
The Count is an excellent story but I wouldn't classify it as mystery the way would say mystery in the classic sense.
Brown Girl Reading Gotcha! I think maybe Heaven, My Home or Blanche Amoung the Talented Tenth would be better for mystery.
Not that I’m less likely to read Monte Cristo - still really interested in that!
Great reading list! Added quite a few to my TBR list!
Glad you found some books you like.
Some fantastic recommendations, thank you! :)
Thanks for watching!
I still need to read Becoming, I'm thinking of reading it next month! Ahhh I just finished On the Come Up and I loved it more than The Hate U Give too! I liked the Nickel Boys but wanted more! Red at the Bone was beautifully written. I'm listening to the audiobook of Heavy right now and had picked it because I saw you gave it 5 stars.
Becoming is a big book. the nickel Boys was perfection. Heavy was brilliant and raw!
You had such a wonderful reading year Didi! Can’t wait to see what’s on your shelf for 2020☺️ The Count I had to put down during the challenge but I’m back reading it and my mind is seriously blown at Dumas creativity. My mom finished it and wants to tackle The Three Musketeers next lol
This year I‘m def reading Heaven My Home b/c Mr Darren Matthews is just😍😂and Jacqueline Woodson can do NO WRONG mkay?!🤣🙌🏽
WHEW! Excellent list per usual, Didi!
Thanks Doris!
She is the greatest!!!

Allah U Akbar.
Love the list! Looks like a great reading year!
Thanks Rachel! Just wish I hadn't lost those 3 months though.
How wonderful that you had so many 5 star reads! I bought Infidel last year and have it in the queue to read this year. Sounds like I should read that V.S. Naipaul book you mentioned (Mr. Biswas); glad for a recommendation for this author!
That doesn't happen very often. A House for Mr. Biswas was a gem.
Happy New Year! I love Blanche also. I have at least 1 more book in the series and I’m putting it off because I don’t want to be done. Maybe Neely will write another for us.🤞🏾
I wish Neely would write more Blanche books but sadly it doesn't look like that's going to happen.
59 is a good number! 👍
Elinor Oliphant was among my 2019 favourites too.
I read Becoming too, and saw her here in Oslo, Norway.
I really need to read Angie Thomas! Both of the books!
Lots of great books to add to my tbr! Here's hoping 2020 is a great reading year 😆
Thank you! I hope so for us all!
I'm about 100 pages into Becoming. It's good.
It's an excellent book!
Intriguing selections👌🏼
I've been watching your videos for a few days. I really enjoy the way you talk about books. I plan to start a list of books I've seen that you've discussed and I'm interested in. Infidel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali has been on my TBR for a while. I want to read it based on your recommendation. Thank you.
Glad you like them! Let me know what you manage to read and how you like them. Happy reading!
Blanche is definitely on my list !!!!
I am really interested in the book “Dear Ancestors “
Great little book!
excellent!
Thanks!
Happy new year Didi
Happy New Year Marina! :)
Didi, as a side note, Angie Thomas' The Hate You Give is currently holding position 4 on the NYT Young Adult Hardcover Best Sellers List; 148 Weeks on the list.
Well On the Come Up is a lot better!
