Hi, loving your central asia videos. We drove from Scotland to Kirgizsran and back in 2016, not the direct route. Your videos remind us how privileged we are to have done the trip. We also got lost between Tash Rabat and Song Kul. Missed a turn hidden under a small river! Luckily a friendly local put us right, before we spent too long heading in the wrong direction. We were more lucky with the weather and everywhere was stunningly beautiful. The day crossing from Kirgizstan to Tadjikistan was also mind blowing, apart from the officials at the border crossing who were the oppostite. Also really enjoyed the Wakkan Valley. Thanks for all your hard work editing and posting. Not as much fun as the doing...
Fantastic adventure, real tough trip requiring great resilience. Amazing footage. Truly admirable. So hard to deal with serial punctures. Had one day in Eastern Turkey way back when (1973) when I punctured four times - the last time the valve ripped out. Luckily I'd kept a tube from India that had a 5cm split in it. We used every valcanizing patch we had left and - it worked! Got to Istanbul on it. Put on a new tyre and tube, then ... my bike got stolen! Lucky thieves! So, I know what it feels like to deal with that hardship and totally respect the way you handled it. Amazing adventure. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Steven. Sounds like you really do know how we felt haha, sorry to hear about your bike in Istanbul. We had a situation where my friend who just happened to be on a DR650 had his back tire popping constantly. For him, it wasn't the rim strip, but the patch basically just wouldn't hold. What helped was actually pumping the tire up to like 50 psi to prevent the tire, and therefore tube, from flexing and wearing out the patch. After that, it was smooth sailing until we got another tube. Also, we always carry Gorilla brand duct tape with us which is just incredibly sticky and strong. I actually don't use rim strips on any of my bikes, I just put that tape on. Never had a puncture from the spoke.
LOL. I also use Gorilla tape as rim tape on my Downhill MTB. Best rim tape out there. Pain in the ass to remove though. You will need toxic chemicals to remove all the tape residue.

Haha yeah mate, saying that we loved every minute but if you're on your own it's probably best to avoid it. The patches and tubes is definitely a good lesson learnt, as you can tell not many places have the tube sizes our bigger bikes need other than capital cities. Pt2 should be out soon

Try to use electric tape as a rimband! Baby powder on the innertube is a good trick as well! Everything has to be very clean and check for sharp things! When installing the tire be carfull not to damage the innertube! Take your time Save ride guys
Thanks mate, we definitely learnt from our mistakes and put some electrical tape on later in the trip. Baby powder is a great tip but we didn't have any at the time haha.

Sunday morning with the boys in Kyrgyzstan! What a start in the morning. Thanks guys! Amazing adventure. This country has been on my list for a long time now, and after this episode it's maybe jumped up the list a bit
Thanks buddy, messages like yours make my day. Make it happen if you can that part of the world is so special and like nowhere else I have been. Next episode should be out soon and hopefully by the end it might be top of your list along with Tajikistan. I have already decided I have to go back one day.
Great!!! Shame that the Tosor pass was under the snow, but i looking forward for a next video and i hope you did not gone whole back way to the Naryn and found the second route which is there and you can make it to the Issyk kul! I really love this country!
electrical tape works for rim tape as well and check the inside of tire very carefully the surface of tube tire needs to abraded by sandpaper , in mexico i have watched the tire quys scrape with razor blade and gas and just apply patch after gas flashed off(no glue ),,, using glue it needs to dry for a minute of so
Thanks Brian, great tips. Unfortunately this was a few years back and we had to learn from our mistakes as we went :) We got there in the end, thanks for for watching
Loving the series lads! I have used gorilla tape on the inside of rims to protect the tube from spokes. It works a treat.. not sure how many Bunning warehouses they have in Kyrgyzstan!
Thanks mate glad you're enjoying the vids, our next episode should be out soon. For a trip like we did I honestly don't think the DR650 can be beaten :)
Hi guys! Thank you for make my weekend, once again. Kyrgyzstan road are challenging but also stunning! Those bikes are tough as well, couple minor issue from the tires but still amazing engine so far. I bit curious , I hope you guys didn't lost in the snowy road. I need to get to the next episode. Once again Thank you guys...
Yeah don't worry mate all will be explained in the next episode, we make a few bad decisions which cause us some serious issues including having to abandon the bikes. Anyway next episode shouldn't be too far away. As always mate appreciate your comments.
Guys, I’ve just discovered your channel and I love it. I’ve been wanting to do this trip for years now. I’ve even got the bike (a DR, what else) and ample riding experience. I know from the trips I’ve taken so far that I can handle myself once on the road. I think about selling my house and riding off every other day. No big life commitments otherwise. The thing is: I’m so scared. Scared of leaving behind the safety of home, the comfort of living in a modern, wealthy country. Scared that I’ll start feeling lonely and depressed two weeks in. Scared that it won’t be the epic journey to cure the lingering existential dread I had in mind. Scared that I’ll fail. What is your perspective on this? Did you have trouble pulling the trigger? Ride safe!
Wow riding uphill in that icy snow must have been super difficult! It's great you had a second person in these situations to help each other out when stuck. Hopefully that's the end of your repeated flat tires, I guess that's just part of the amazing adventure!
You guys are definitely living (lived) the dream. This is the part of the journey that I've been waiting for. Punctures....shit they are a pain. Back in 2018 a mate an I spent a month in Vietnam 🇻🇳 riding small bikes from north to south. My mate had so many punctures we exhausted our supply of tubes. We couldn't see why or what was causing the punctures. We ended up putting a new tyre on and never had one again. So I feel for you guys. Looking forward to the next episode. 😀
Cheers Darryl, it really was a downer but I suppose it made the highs even better. Also that damn Motoz tyre is great but it's side walls are so hard it's a nightmare to put on. The next episode should be a good one if we can find all the footage, it becomes a real adventure what we stupidly decide to do the next morning when we wake up haha
@@Northandleftabit Excellent. Looking forward to the next episode then. The side walls on those and Heidenau tires are just overkill. But they are cheap and will go further than a more conventional adventure bike tyre.
@@alrightdave6135 I know man. It's probably been more than 100,000kms since my last puncture. You must have had a good trip. My mate and I were going back in 2020 for 60 days to do Cambodia and Laos. Pandemic put a stop to that, but hopefully it looks like the world is slowly opening up again so we are planning on going next year.
Ah that sucks mate, we continue to have flats the worst being in Turkmenistan in the desert in f**k knows what temperature, it was a killer haha. I bet the Amazon was fun though, I hope had a nice light bike for it

Just found your channel few days ago and watched all the videos, and liked them of course. This is fascinating! But I think you can make more videos. I'd love to see everything what you do.. Anyway, keep them up ❤️👀
I don't know what to say as I'm starting to sound like a broken record, but great episode once again. I was impressed with how easy (or at least it looked easy) you popped those E07 tyres off the rims. Mine are rock hard and I need 600mm levers to pop them off and even then it bloody hard work. Great work once again with the video edit. I'm sharing your episodes now as you guys make a great show. Well done.
Hi Nick, more than happy to listen to that record on repeat. It might not seem like much but it's messages like yours which inspire/motivate us to keep going. Believe me off camera there was much swearing and beating the tyre. Top tip qe learnt though was to use the footstand of the bike to brake the beed. Getting it back on however was horrible. Awesome to hear you're sharing the video, I now expect it grow by 10k views within a few hours ;) cheers mate I hope you're having a good day
James and Jay. I've rewatched just about all of your trip in the last couple of months. Is there any chance you would have another episode almost ready?
Oh guys I had to watch this episode 3 times now cause I am waiting for the next ... ^^ Seriously this one was the most dramatic episode. Epic struggles on the snow mountain. Haha. I was a little concerned to be honest. I hope u got yourself some more spares tubes James. I couldn't believe how many stops u had because of a f... flat tire ^^ But that's what an adventure actually is about, right? A good rubber glue would help in these situations as well I guess or this kind of flattire foam .. Do you leave one nut on the valve before putting in the tube? And then a second against the rim (never too tight!! ) and never too much pressure on the tire. In case the tube moves inside the tire.. that's when the valves burst off very often. So tube needs some 'play'. U guys know this stuff, I know. So.. as we haven't seen any new content yet, I hope u are doing great somewhere out there without internet and surprise us with a new episode very soon! Just bought myself an old HONDA XRV 750 Africa Twin to crush the balkan this year. YEWW!
Another flat? My theory is because you are normally filming, and he leads, he hits the crap, and clears the path for you. Haha. Well if yall ever want to go back to Pakistan, I would welcome you with me, as a solo female traveler, I doubt anything would be as hospitable as yall enjoyed. What a wonderful country. And I hope to visit it on my trip.
Don't worry if we had or could buy more tubes at the time we would have but unfortunately in Kyrgyzstan they mostly have mopeds and small 150cc motorcycles with tiny tubes. We get there eventually
Use duck tape as rim tape. Run it around the wheel twice. Never worry about it again. I do this on my KTM 690 Enduro R. Make sure to properly clean the wheel so that the duck tape stays stuck to the rim, and use the nice duck tape. Use a sharp knife to create a small square for the valve stem to get through the wheel.
Thanks mate, great tips. We definitely learnt from our mistakes over the trip but this was a frustrating time, let's just say character building I guess haha
@@Northandleftabit Just to add. I don't change the duct tape when I change tires or pop a tube. Just fix/replace the tire/tube. The only time you'd need to swap the duct tape is when it's getting a bit old or you see it's not sticking somewhere. I'm 16k km into my wheels using duct tape and I haven't changed it once. I felt the frustration in needing to change the tire that often for sure. I really don't want to have to do that on the trail, let alone 8 times. JFC. I think I would have just sat and camped after the fourth time. Good on you guys for solving the problem though. Keep the shiny side up!
@@PRodent I think sometimes with the tires it's just bad luck but your tips would definitely help. Yeah at times we were both VERY over it all and I think if we had food and a beer or 50 we probably would have just camped and worried about it the next day, unfortunately we had neither haha.
Guys, what are you using a video equipment ? I tried to shoot video via GoPro on a recent trip but it took me hours to post process. :-) As I prefer rather have a beer in the evening…. Any tips? Do you use a laptop or iPad for video post production? Thanks! … oh yeah, you are also very active on socials, respect of putting the time in. Do you ride every day ? I always felt I needed at least one day out of three to manage videos, photos, posting etc.
Hi David, Great questions. In short we tried to edit on the road but it was impossible for what we're trying to produce. Our girls few we did but it became too hard and we didn't have the time. We used two Sony proper video/cameras including mics and two go pros on the helmets. We're still trying to catchup on all of our footage now, we rode nearly everyday and often didn't have power or internet as we camped alot. I have no regrets as we travelled to see things not to sit in a room all night on a computer, I do that at home haha

Amazing, simply stunning vistas.
Thanks Victoria, I'm glad to see you enjoyed this episode too. Part 2 should be out next week :)
@@Northandleftabit sucks about that damned rear tyre going flat. I thankfully ride a R1100GS tubeless but my riding partner rides a Himalayan. We are looking to go tubeless. Will carry spares including tubes for those nasty bits.
Beautiful people, beautiful filming and beautiful riding! Thanks for sharing bros!
Thanks mate, it really is an amazing place. We hope to have pt2 put soon
Hi both, hope all is going well and your movie accompanying music score tastes are improving?
Have you finished your journey yet, if not where have you got to to date?
Any more posts to come on here?👌🍻🎶
Thanks David only you can judge of the music, are we improving?
Funnily we get lots of people messaging who love the music, I suppose each to their own.
Yeah we finished the trip (although very eventful) awhile back and we're catching up on editing.
Back in Sydney now
I've got my DR650 ready for my 7 month adventure and you guys are showing me what to expect. This episode taught me to bring high quality patches and if a mountain pass might have snow...go around.
Haha yeah mate, saying that we loved every minute but if you're on your own it's probably best to avoid it. The patches and tubes is definitely a good lesson learnt, as you can tell not many places have the tube sizes our bigger bikes need other than capital cities.
Pt2 should be out soon
Oh no, I just binged till this episode and it's the latest one! You guys are great, the journey so far has been incredible, can't wait to see more!
Amazing adventure tour and excellent videos brought me back to those wonderful memories I had during the journey on Silk Road in 2018.
Yeah it's such an amazing part of the world, I hope I can go back again one day. Im glad you're enjoying the vids, our next episode should be out soon.
Absolutely phenomenal trip and stunning video footage. I could not stop watching since ep. 1! Very engaging and amusing. Definitely on par with "Long Way Round". Thank you!
Wow that's quite a shout, the Long Way Round....
Saying that we're really happy with out videos given it was just the two of us with cameras and no support crew so awesome to hear your feedback.
Comments like your really do motivate us to carry on editing, lots more adventure and stories ahead to share in future episode's
Try to use electric tape as a rimband!
Baby powder on the innertube is a good trick as well!
Everything has to be very clean and check for sharp things!
When installing the tire be carfull not to damage the innertube!
Take your time
Save ride guys
Thanks mate, we definitely learnt from our mistakes and put some electrical tape on later in the trip.
Baby powder is a great tip but we didn't have any at the time haha.
Fantastic journey! Sorry to hear about all the tyre trouble.
Cheers mate it happens, much more ahead haha
Wow, just wow!!!
Thanks mate, it's an incredible country
Enjoying.. great video, dudes.
Thanks mate pt2 of Kyrgyzstan should be out soon
Come on lads ,just reviewing your vids again and really enjoying them
Some awesome adventure biking. Glad to see you taking some calculated risks but never enough to get in trouble. Stay safe out there!
Thanks mate however I think we might overstep your line in the next episode as we end up having to abandon the bikes and hike out haha. That video should be out on the weekend.
Yessss! These vlogs has it all. Views, bikes, riders...and the BEST choice of music. O yes, and splendid editing.
Well done guys!
Yeah this one was a bit of a roller-coaster haha, to be fair our next video might take it to the next level as we get in more trouble
Looks amazing, I'd love it there
Yes, it's amazing
Cant wait for the next part
Thanks mate we hope to have it out by next weekend. If you think this was eventful you should wait for part 2, we get ourselves into a fairly messed up situation by deciding to not backtrack haha
How amazing, I would prefer to get lost in your adventure any day of the week, you guys an inspiration.
Cheers Rob, glad you're enjoying the episode. If you think that one was an adventure prepare for the next as we get ourselves into a messed up scenario. Having said that we loved it in hindsight :)
@@Northandleftabit sounds perfect! Sweet
Unfortunately this was a few years back and we had to learn from our mistakes as we went :)
We got there in the end, thanks for for watching
Joys of tube type tires, been there done that! 😅
Genius! Hope to see the next one soon!
Loving the series lads! I have used gorilla tape on the inside of rims to protect the tube from spokes. It works a treat.. not sure how many Bunning warehouses they have in Kyrgyzstan!
Really enjoying your videos and adventurous ride so far....
eagerly waiting for the next part
Just caught up and great series so far. I may need to get a DR as my next bike.
Wonderful.
My Dram Place
Hopefully one day you can go mate. For now Pakistan is still pretty amazing :)
Yes i have plan for Ride in Kyrgyzstan. No doubt Pakistan is Beautiful, and Every Place have own Beauty.
Videos keep getting better and better! Keep them coming guys!
Great!!!!!!!
Thanks mate glad you're enjoying the vids, our next episode should be out soon.
Just binged the whole series. Totally hooked. Great trip and great job on the storytelling!
Unlucky. I rode 5000km South to north Vietnam over 40 days in 2019 and didn’t get one puncture (rented a Crf250l)
You guys have an awesome channel. You guys deserve much more views.
When can we expect part 2?!
kyrgyzstan is beatiful, but also seem to impose a lot more challanges! really curious how the rest of the journey goes!
Awesome job! I just had two flats riding in the amazon. Almost passed out changing my rear when it was 40C and no shade. Love your videos!
Ah that sucks mate, we continue to have flats the worst being in Turkmenistan in the desert in f**k knows what temperature, it was a killer haha.
I bet the Amazon was fun though, I hope had a nice light bike for it
@@Northandleftabit Africa Twin Adventure Sports, not light. Haha. But yes, Amazon was amazing
@@mkoadventures clearly you're s much better rider than I am haha. Awesome work mate
@@Northandleftabit I'm no expert, just another naive rider thinking he can ride through anything. So i just go, ha
@@mkoadventures haha sounds about right
They make leather belt tire liners to resist puncture!!!
Epic videos boys! Living the dream trip of a lifetime & the editing is next level.
Like other comments I can't believe you guys haven't got a shitload more viewers. Looking forward to the next episode 😍
Just found your channel few days ago and watched all the videos, and liked them of course. This is fascinating! But I think you can make more videos. I'd love to see everything what you do.. Anyway, keep them up ❤️👀
About 4 years to late but you could use your belt to replace the rubber that was removed in a pinch until you get to a 2nd would country
cheers mate, we learnt that too about a month after it originally happened ha.
All god though, we got there in the end
Awesome to hear you're sharing the video, I now expect it grow by 10k views within a few hours ;) cheers mate I hope you're having a good day
love your videos guys. Great stuff. Its a pity you didn't get a stabilized camera though...
The guy who sent them other way is typical kyrgyz uncle 😂
So true we met many people like him, all very happy and smiling
What an adventure ❤️ you lads
Love all the vlogs please upload them daily, love the scenery from North Pakistan Kyrgyzstan
Thanks Ali but unfortunately daily will be impossible, it takes us ages to edit each one. We will try weekly though :)
@@Northandleftabit legend mate 👌🏼

When's the next video?!
@@daniellindstrom9002 hopefully the weekend or early next week
Love it. You guys are on the ride of a lifetime!
new piece gimiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Amazing trip, amazing country. It would be interesting to know what month it is...
Hey guys,,,new sub here,,,,love your content,,,,very real.....
James and Jay. I've rewatched just about all of your trip in the last couple of months. Is there any chance you would have another episode almost ready?
This is an insane adventure
Where is the next episode? I have been really enjoying the videos.
YEWW!
Where are you guys now let us know.... It's been 7-8 months no updates yet 😶
Guys, I’m addicted and loved these vids, did you make it?
freakin amazing trip too btw.
Your videos are better than mine. Much better!
Haha thanks mate, we probably could have used your tyre changing tips and help though :)
IMO tube patches are shot fellas. Replace the tube if you can and be done with it
Don't worry if we had or could buy more tubes at the time we would have but unfortunately in Kyrgyzstan they mostly have mopeds and small 150cc motorcycles with tiny tubes. We get there eventually
this content is awesome
Wow!
Everything ok boys? Loving the vids, wondering where you've got to...?!
Again, amazing videos. Realy hope more is coming!! 😮So what are you guys up to these days? Best regards from Norway.
Hi David,
Great questions.
