we definitely share the same hobbies of watches and photography. i would have never guessed you shoot street. wonderful shots man, would love to see more photography content
Many thanks. I wish I had more time to spend on going out to photograph, but I will do my best. I love the feeling of it, the relaxation, and the focus.
My fav lens!!! :-). I also have the 35mm lux V2 as well.....Coming up in some of my next videos... BTW your analysis saying the steel rim is like shooting with a diffusion filter on, I agree. But to note, I have compared mine to the 35lux ASPH latest version with a 1/8 tiffen black pro mist against the steel rim still which still has a more unique and less uniform look as far as aberrations and flare.
Using my diffusion filter is not the optimal solution. I realized, that shooting de novo with this 35mm Steel Rim gave me better results. But since my only 50mm M lens is the modern Summilux ASPH, it might be worth it to try slapping on the Promist filter once in a while. (Instead of searching for a vintage 50mm lens)
Thanks you for your very relevant videos. I have a M10M and I shoot film as well. I plan to purchase a summilux before Xmas, as you belong both, which one do you recommend? You have both, are they redundant or complementary? Thanks again.
I would say complementary. The 35 Steel Rim adds imperfections to the image: flares, chromatic aberration, and a vintage-looking color profile. just something fun to have. If I could recommend only one 35mm, it would be the newest Summilux 1.4 FLE. Although bigger and heavier, it gives a more reliable, cleaner, sharper image, and the aperture ring build quality is more solid, and has a built in hood.
That hood will not snap on if there is a filter installed. The hood will just sit on the filter and it can fall off easily. So, it is not secure unless you remove the filter.
That is something to consider. I end up reaching for this Steel Rim much more often than the FLE II. The images have a more “artistic” look, in my opinion. But I am still keeping the FLE II for when I want a sharper, more contemporary, real world look; or when I want the more subtle black lens/black body setup.
Thanks for the review! All of photos are very beautiful and representative of different characteristics of the lens. Great review!
Thanks for watching!
Soft wide opened at f/1.4 with flaring which can be eliminated at higher f settings. Its aperture ring on my hands is quite similar to the pre-ASPH.

An M Leica and a compact 35 mm lens seems like a great combination.
It really is! The image is soft when wide open, but the character is unique. It still sharpens up when closed down to f/5.6 or more.

3:35 Beautiful thing
Great video, thanks! Love the "new" steel rim, especially the more muted colours.
Thanks 👍

How can you attach the Ollux style hood(aka square hood) with a filter? I saw most of the early reviews said they cannot attach and hold it tight.
That hood will not snap on if there is a filter installed. The hood will just sit on the filter and it can fall off easily. So, it is not secure unless you remove the filter.
Considering switching over from the 35 FLE V1 to the Steel Rim Reissue for my MP. Any updated thoughts?

I just purchased a black MP, so I'm excited to see how this Steel Rim will perform on film, compared to the Summilux FLE
Very nice but, sadly, loose aperture rings seems to be a new Leica trait. I agree that it's annoying.
