Ultra running, whatever

- Yeah, I run. I’ve always run, but not like this; with a plan, bags of Tailwind, a beeping watch, and the looming deadline of a race that’s happily called the hardest 100k race in Australia. That means proper training, taking it a bit more seriously than some of my antics in the past, and likely means I can’t just eat bananas. That, and I’ve lined up for this bloody race twice and not finished (yes, there’s films on the way about that). This holiday has many themes, and one of them is running. Run you bastard.

G’day folks! Secret Screenings are back for 2024.
beaumiles.com/screenings/
I’m touring brand new (half baked) films around the east coast of Australia. On the night, I’ll also be telling you a bunch of excellent stories that may or may not have anything to do with what you've just watched. Goodonyas!
Wait... After watching Rosie Barnes (Engineering with Rosie) just now, you should do a colab with her.
Any chance that any of these could be streamed live? I'm happy to pay my "entry" ticket, but you're almost literally on the other side of the planet from me. I'd still love the chance to see one without having to fly around the world for a night out 😂
Without fail I finish your videos with a happy aura and further inspiration to lace up my Hokas. Bloody great vid as always, keep it up
Never grabbed a ticket faster in my life, looking forward to it!
0:27 What a happy baby!🤩
You look good with short hair and your wife fabulous. 👍
Always keep your hair shorter than your wife's or baby's hair.
Please refrain from the Robinson Cruso style. 😱
One video made me so worried that you had spent ten years on a desert island and were now running for your life to find your way back to civilization.
But now I see that everything is fine. 😅
Absolutely howling at those morning toots
Good to see you here, lad, good to see you here.
"I contribute nothing" said the creative into the endless void. Seemingly unaware of the layers of beauty he was sharing. The joy of family, laughter, human connection, beauty in nature, existentialism, nostalgia, adventure, inspiration and the beauty so often missed in every day life.
Yep.
This.
"With another man?"
"Yeah it was, actually." 🤣
Love ur work Beau and that you put that in
It's OK, he told some random person he loved them. It all evens out 😂
I have been running, trail running and having my own crazy adventures for a decade. No one joins me, my family thinks I am daft. Many years ago I found you and your stories and adventures. Another red bearded outdoorsman who loves the trades on the other side of the world who could inspire me and make me feel a bit of kinship. It’s not meaningless Beau. We do what we can for the world around us. The trees you planted, bottles you saved, waterways you have cleaned and the wood you repurposed, all makes the world better. Especially the stories.
What a lovely message. I completely agree.
"You heard right.... morning toots"😂
"Did you hear that? She told me where she was from and I told her I loved her. That's... embarrassing!" 😂
I love that you keep these little things in while others wouldve edited them out.
"Running is about keeping our minds in the best shape" - Beau
...and never forget to be funny at the right time. It makes the world happy.
11:36 😳 😄😆
"fart, fart, fart, fart, fart" - also Beau
Not contributing nothing, Beau. I joined my county's search & rescue team partially inspired by your work. You show what many could do with seeing and show it through joy.
Oogrooq well done 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼that’s a very noble thing to do!
"She told me where she lived, and I told her I loved her" - Beau Miles
Running is definitely contributing to the home while you are out there. It’s giving you the time, space, perspective, good endorphins, adventure and freedom to be the best Beau. They are some bloody good reasons because when you get back you are a better bloke.
Watching your videos give me a smile. Thanks mate.
Thanks, I think I needed to hear this as well. It often feels like a very selfish endeavour to disappear for hours on a Sunday morning and leave the family to it!
you inspired me to run after finding your channel 4 weeks ago, done my first half marathon 3 days ago! thank you and keep the videos coming!
Had you run before? That’s insane progression if not!
Congrats now that's very rapid progress. Muscles grow very fast under new loading. Unlike tendons, sinews and cartilage which have no blood vessels so they grow much slower, making them the weakest links. That loud whipping sound of a snapping achilles sinew is horrifying. Glad it wasn't me. Take care and enjoy!
@@Louis.Martin This is the internet. My guess is they've never even gone for a run and they don't realize 4 weeks is a short period of time. 😂
r though, I bet money the guy is a teen looking for attention. Apparently went from fortnite to a half marathon in a month 😂
@@Louis.Martin no sir
Morning TOOTS , your a bloody classic Beau , love it , keep it up mate , cheers to the family!
saw this comment before the part in the video, just thought you were calling him toots 😂
I was watching heard the "toots" , then he called them toots , he'll he's a classic Aussie father .. 😂
so classic that he kept that in the edit. We've all been there
@SmashAdams not me mate , I'm bloody perfect, I don't toot 😅 , wife's line successfully stolen ..!! 😂
I love looking at maps. I really like old maps, railroad maps, and comparing old maps to new maps. I guess that is nerdy but i never pass up a good look at a map.
Same. My daughter got me some pens, highlighters, and a new local topo map for a birthday, to replace my old one thats fallen apart. There begins transferring over 15 years of track notes, fishing holes, log jams, dotted lines, deer sightings, snake jumpings, campsites and whatever else ive stumbled across, onto the new map. 💪🤣
@@kurts64 love this
Maps are awesome
It made me chuckle when your youngest tried to poor the water bottle into the cup. The perfect segway from "I have to go be a parent which is twice as hard".
Yes, she loves it- and I love watching it. Better than any film or TV ive ever seen
@@BeauMiles How is Helen doing? I saw her hair is short, how is her health? Hope you forgive me for asking, no obligation to respond Xx
You do contribute, Beau. More than most of us.
Holy moly! This spoke to my soul... As a 42 - going on 43 - year old, running is my escape, my joy, my me time, it's everything. It's just for me, I don't have to be a mom, a wife, a worker, a cook, a cleaner, I can just be. The way you talk about running has always been an inspiration to me and I wanted to say thank you for the beautiful, special, quirky videos and for sharing the joy of running with the world!
Great work Beau. As a now 46 year old father of two, the comment about contributing nothing while out there resonates with me, but I also know myself well enough now to know I'm a miserable bastard if I'm stuck in the house. Getting out is never a bad idea, and as you say, even a mediocre run, ride or walk elevates the mood and makes me a better man, dad, husband, manager, employee and all the other roles we play...
Your videos are always the perfect balance of entertainment and introspection. Though my life is very different than yours I try to live in a similar way, there is a lot of pain in this world both internal and external but there is also a lot of pleasure to be found if you go looking for it. Life truly is a blessing. Another cracking video.
One week before I run my first 50 mile ultra and one of my favourite RUclipsrs and runners uploads an ultra video! Couldn't be more perfect ❤️
I cried. I admit - the stuff about the world and our place in it. I also think this was incredibly well written
“I contribute nothing” hit hard. This is something that I feel with every long run or training block commitment as a father of three young boys. You hit the nail on the head with the juxtaposition that is presented when we commit to doing something that doesn’t have a direct benefit to those that we care most about. Yes, taking care of ourselves allows us to take care of others but there certainly is diminishing returns when you ramp your mileage up beyond a certain point. Thanks for the entertaining video - I found it to be refreshingly light
I am a simple man, this film ends with "that will also be a film" and my smile gets even bigger.
“I love you!” , “it’s the meaning of having a heart” such beautiful human passion ❤
'' You can only exist the way you want in the company of others". -Beau Miles
Thanks Beau! IfI could give you 1000 thumbs up I would. Your storytelling is gowing with you
If running maintains your physical and mental health, then that is a contribution- to yourself and those around you.
been following your videos for a good 4 years now and your mindset and the way you look at life has helped me in mine i was struggling loads with school work and just couldnt apply myself but your videos made me realise i need to do more things and get out so i started doing little walks and runs. 4 years later im getting to the end of a graphics course with some great designs and overall im feeling way better in myself thanks so much beau. also early gang 4 mins.
You produce beautiful authentic short films in a world that's addicted to the algorithm and genuinely have an impact on people's lives like mine, on the other side of the world who don't get to have a role model like you in their "real" world. So the line of thinking that you contribute nothing is bullshirt ... When I grow up I want to be like beau
Calm and high quality content, love it. Thank you!
Thank you for creating this content. BIG LOVE to you and the fam!
You are an absolute inspiration mate. Days get a little bit brighter when you've uploaded
Wow... almost all of your videos are inspirational, but this has to be one of the best! I love what you're putting out there Beau. Thank you so much!
Such an under rated channel. Cant wait for the next film! You go beau❤
Bootcamp? More like beaut camp. What gorgeous land we live on!
Love the frequency of your uploads recently. Your videos are always entertaining! 😀
Beau, you contribute something incredible to this world. Your joy is infectious!
You've contributed to my awareness of my surroundings and my happiness and I'm certain the same can be said for so many of the others who watch and continue to be inspired by you.
Kicked my butt into running for the first time in a while with a whole new outlook and appreciation- love the new video Beau!
Huge inspiration to me too Beau. Love your writing, presentation, everything. My muscle condition all but wipes out running but you motivate in so many other ways, you legend!
I look forward to the next film, this one was wonderful as ever and a delight to watch!
Well beau! You’ve done it again. Where so many are focused on the how and the how long and the seriousness of it all, it’s so refreshing to see the silliness and the soul behind the running. Keep on keeping on you wonderful human bean!
i think you contribute more than you think.
your videos have given inspiration. hope. joy. laughter. comfort.
i know that i come back over and over again because there is absolute wisdom and happiness here. thank you.
Gosh I feel blessed every time I see the notification that a new video has dropped. I think you are the happiest person on the planet honestly. It gives me hope. Love your work Beau and can't wait to see how it all turned out!
running is the best thing for one's mental health, dunno where I'd be without it
The joint pain would do the opposite for me i guess
Awesome stuff Beau, so glad you appreciate what you and your body are able to do. You are an inspiration and it really makes me want to go running again.
I love Australia thankyou Beau xx we really appreciate you and your family..you contribute more than you think
Thank you Beau for being you! Seeing my brother cross the finish line of a 50 miler last fall was a peak experience for me. Going where your soul leads always contributes to the web of life ❤
Love watching the videos mate. Me and my son watch them together. Always exciting to see what you randomly eat or drink .
Life is precious. I wish you and the family health and happiness .
Beau, you have helped me get out of my comfort zone and go for all my wild ideas I have. You are the man, and I love all your content. Breath of fresh air for sure. Thank you and keep it up! 👍
Beau, this was beautiful. It was so nice to see your family involved in your journey. You made me nostalgic for the high country and the adventures that I've had there with my family.
Brilliant video as always Beau! I have just got into trail running the past few months and the feeling of freedom is unreal. My favorite runs are the long ones through the hills.
Tell me one thing that Beau can’t do.
Exactly, there’s nothing. He can/does do everything.
Love the work Beau keep it up ❤ 😊
I love hearing the excitement in your voice when you're out running somewhere beautiful coz thats the things I say to myself! Get goosebumps just getting to run in gorgeous places! Another great video
This was/is amazing. Thanks for sharing this with us. Can't wait for the sequel.
Oh my goodness do I ever love this! As a long time trail runner I've felt this but not had the words. You perfectly summed up trail running for me. Thanks mate!
This is so well timed.
I'm doing a very hilly 112+mile bike ride at the weekend, the training is complete, I'm watching this while taking a break from finishing the pre event bike checks and that little monologue at the end was just what I needed to hear.
YES!!!! Running content is what led me to your channel many years ago (I am also an ultra running content creator)...but then I stayed for the great story telling and other content you do. I like it all. Good on Ya Beau!!
Appreciate your curiosity and wonderful depiction of such beautiful Australian landscape
Really appreciated the bit about gratitude. The way you film and tell stories is always such a raw and real expression of experiencing the world. Always look forward to a new video, even if it's sorting bolts haha :)
Hey Beau, loved that video on 6 life lessons from ultra running boot camp, including you getting emotional about the world and how lucky you are, and appreciating your 3 girls..
You’re a quirky very unique and honest man - and you make me laugh. I am inspired to get back into running again.
You did very well in the Hut to Hut! Looking forward to that video.
Thanks for another great video Beau. Inspirational as always. I've recently signed up for my first 50k trail run in October here in the UK. Your content always inspires me. I've been an avid follower since Mile an Hour. Keep up the great work. Cheers! Michael
Love watching Beau run to all our favourite places in the high country! So good.
One trip we did the Falls to Hotham crossing with our kids. Husband (absolute legend) ran back to Falls to get the car the next day while we relaxed at the Moritz.
Youre an absolute legend Beau and you contribute a whole lot. I winked to Kelly Slater on a plane to Fiji yesterday but I'd be way more stoked to run past you and say 'Hey, are you Beau?!'.
Nice video mate. I watched this just after I put together another little running plan for myself as I can feel the cobwebs slowly taking over my mind and health. Looking forward to the next one where you doc the ultra! Take it easy Beau, thanks for the inspiration - as always!
Awesome film mate. Totally sums up why I love trail running.
Have ran, hiked and skied the trails you ran many times.
Such a magical place
Your videos are a wonderful place to breathe, thank you.
This video was amazing. Perfectly timed as I start a 16 week marathon block, which I initially dreaded. You've put the privilege into perspective. Love your work Beau!
Another awesome video, thanks, Beau
I liked the video. Leaving a comment now. And now, I begin enjoying the pleasures of another Beau video. "excited" is an understatement.
"I contribute nothing"... That's bullshit Beau. When you run, you're taking care of yourself both physically and mentally(mentally is probably more important). I would bet that you are 10x more attentive to your kids just because of that. I climb and do the same thing. Sneak away for a weekend or a week, but the recharge that I get just lets me give so much more to my kids and my wife. Taking care of yourself is important. If you don't do that, then how can you take care of anyone else?
Been watching old videos just last night waiting for beau new welcome.
From one runner to another, thank you for the insight, infectious enthusiasm, and wonderful mindset.
Almost ten years ago I ran my first race, a half marathon. I inadvertently chose one of the hilliest races in the state, but still had a lovely time. I trained a little more seriously the next year, and set a half marathon PR of just under two hours, which was lovely. I had to take four years off of running due to some injuries, and it was a terrible time, but by 2022 I was finally healed back up enough to run again, and life is just magical. I ran my first full marathon then, hiked the entire coast of Oregon in 2023, and this year am working on speed. I've run my fastest 5k and 10k races since 2016, and am on track to challenge my half marathon PR in a few weeks.
Your videos have definitely helped me as I clawed my way back to being a runner again. Thank you.
It's the best shape I have seen you in for some time. Good work mate 👍
I absolutely LOVE your channel but especially the running content Beau. Found your channel years ago when you put out “Trails Of Miles” and been here ever since. Looking forward to the race day video :-)
I have been following Beau for years now and continue to be amazed at the powerful musings he provides for us along his journeys. As a previously serious runner who might still be trying to hold onto it longer than I should, I truly appreciate Beau's perspective on the world and his family. I have also found myself recently talking to myself and narrating my surroundings on runs/bike rides. It is so much more enjoyable!
Yesterday running from home to the garden with a wheelbarrow full of wood, today with a brush cutter and then a fantastic new video from Beau - wonderful days. Thank you for the six life lessons. Greetings from Germany
I didn’t want this one to end. Thanks Beau. ❤
Truly wholesome bloke, thanks for this. Just had the man flu and trying to get back into running, this almost had me in tears!
amazing Beau! One of my faves so far! thank you :)
Man do I love this channel. Keep it up Beau!
love it beau, i just simply love it
What a love letter to running! I needed this today. Started crying 20 seconds in.
A body of work is work. Love you for that. Another man :) What a beautiful film, much loves from from bavaria
I feel that to be able to take advantage of the moment and do what makes you feel alive is paying tribute to the negativity in the world by giving it some meaning. I mean, If everything is going well in a moment, a person ought to be able to enjoy and experience it, otherwise what's the point of it all? A world full of war and suffering is also a world full of peace and gratitude. Live your current chapter to it's fullest in honor of those who can't. Well composed video as always mate!
So beautifully narrated and filmed. Inspiring and endearing 💛
You always amaze me Beau!
Excellent and inspirational as always Beau!
Love how this one came together! Really great film as always Beau. Well worth the Patreon sub to see it in development!
What a beautiful video and a beautiful family! And i love the music!
Looking forward to the Hut 2 Hut video, that event’s one I’d love to take a crack at. Great video, I’ve shared it with the local running group down here in South West Victoria.
It's a pleasure being the same age as you Beau. I run, and worked at a university, and love that your content always speaks so directly to my life experience, even continents away.
you are so enjoyable to watch, i can not wait until this channel explodes because it will, you are to good of a film maker. One thing to bring up, is i know alot of youtubers have been pulling the family out of videos for safety, speak to demo ranch about it, he explains it well. You have such a amazing wife and family just want you all to be wonderfully happy and safe. just something to keep in mind. good luck at the race i hope you finish!!
Love your content. Thank you.
Inspiration to live a good healthy life. Thanks Beau!
Always a good day when you upload a video
Wow that Australian high country is beautiful. Looks like a great area to run and hike. Morning toots.... that make my day! That is all.
love this one. I find getting up into the countryside on long 2-3 hour runs is so beneficial for my mental health. just up there in hills talking to myself and processing things that have been bothering me. life changing experiences
Just love watching your videos plus I always have a good laugh 😆
Nice one Beau, reckon I have hiked most of that patch just not running! Love your love of the outdoors mate. Great vid as usual. And awesome to see the kiddies growing up.
Wow good timing on the video dude! Im currently training to get to the 100k milestone! Your on the list of inspiring people for me so thanks for another video!
