Renault Clio Central Locking Actuator Replacement

  • My driver's side rear central locking wasn't working, so I fixed it.
    Initially, taking the entire locking mechanism out of the door looked too fiddly and not worth it, but after trying (later on in the video) it wasn't that bad. The white plastic cage causes the most problems when removing the lock.
    Refitting without the plastic cage is very quick and easy, as can be seen.

    Great video. Fairly quick to strip down, apart from the window roller which took ages because it wouldn't budge.
    Its the actuator, although works without load but when I reassembled it, didn't work. Interestingly voltage to open and close read as pos and minus, but not voltage.
    If i can ask where you get your replacement actuator? Have a Type B clio but its a 2009, but seems to be a Type 2.
    Its a real fiddle and on the type B tbere is a metal cover AND a plastic cover...

      Cheers, and I think the actuator was a cheap no-name unit from ebay. It worked OK though so no particular complaints from me.

    Very useful thanks, I shall be referring to this when changing my actuator, I always find connecting back the rods the worse bit on these jobs. The white cover is to protect the actuator from water, so will try and refit using it.

      I'm having a hell of a job trying to reconnect the handle rod, I get it lined up but the bugger just wont snap in. If I undo the two handle retaining nuts will that help?

    • @KomradeShotabollokov
      @KomradeShotabollokov  7 лет назад

      Probably, yeah. It allows some movement in of the handle and that might be enough to get the rod into place. Bear in mind that tightening the handle nuts could be more difficult with the rod attached, due to access.

    • @pullgees
      @pullgees 7 лет назад +1

      Okay done it Gasp!. Once I got the rod lined up with the hole I used a long screw driver pressed against the rod just above the bend making sure it was all lined up and then a smart tap with the hammer and in it went. You can tell when it's home because you can feel the end protruding through the other side. The problem is that it takes a bit of force to push it in and my thumb wasn't up to it.

    Hi. Great video, thanks. Mine are temporamental and one makes a squeezing noise. As I'm going to dismantle the doors, what else should I grease/oil/wd40? I don't want to change the actuators and then find the problem is something else rusted/stiff or in need of a lube. Mine has no manual lock button inside so I'm expecting less metal bars inside.

      @@GabsReDeal i did the same thing, collector on the rotor was extremely dirty and not making any contact / barely any and being super weak. What i did is cut a very small piece of 1000 grit sand paper and placed it against collector while applying some pressure to it with a small screw driver and manually turning the rotor until these contacts got copper-shiny and then washed it off with isopropyl alchocol (obviously i took apart actual motor for this) now it works flawless and is quite strong and its not easy to stop it. Took me maybe half an hour and i enjoy doing this kinda stuff so its worth the time. Hopefully this can help to anyone else willing to go through this process.

    Hi! Thanks for the video. Unfortunately I'm having a different but related issue - my rear left door is deadlocked, I can't get it to open at all. I tried removing the inner door panel by following your video (worked like a charm) and fiddling with the rods inside, but the inside door latch (the one that you pull up or push down) doesn't do anything and I can't even get the door to open. Would you happen to know a solution to this? Thanks!

      @@KomradeShotabollokov Managed to find a video of a guy explaining the lock mechanism in detail and there's a simple thing you can do with a screwdriver from inside the car to unlock the door and finally gain access to the whole mechanism in order to remove it and fix/replace it. @@marijanmarcius3368 Hi! Firstly, I found this video (code: 08o1iEPb4VY) to help me understand how the lock operates. My car is a Renault Clio 2 Phase 1.
      Once I understood that part, I gained access to the lock by removing the trim inside and the black 'anti-theft' plastic cover, then, using a very long and thin, 'precision' flat screwdriver, I accessed the gap as shown in the video I referenced to activate the unlocking mechanism from inside the door. That way I finally managed to get it open.
      The reason why my lock was malfunctioning was because a spring inside snapped and didn't activate the unlocking mechanism. I had to order a replacement on eBay from a Clio that was written off.

    I removed the whole lock mechanism first, using a slightly different technique. The white plastic cover can't be removed unless a small spring is removed, and you have to remove the whole lock mechanism before you do that. To free the lock mechanism from the handle lever I managed to push the metal rod with the serrations (13:48 in video) out of the blue metal clip, then the mechanism was free to jiggle out with very little cursing or swearing required. The serrations on the metal rod must be to set it at the correct position for the handle to operate properly.
