@@MTBMOR Yes sir. I'm well aware of all the steep endless climbs around LCWP. I just haven't ridden Rattlesnake in a couple of years, but you made it look sooo much more easier to ride.
I rode this trail on Friday and this video took the intimidating factor mostly out of it and made it for an easier ride. 150/140 bike. That’s the point of your videos, thanks!

I haven’t hit that trail in 20 years. Looks so different and beat up, but techy and still fun. I use to turn left at the end and there was a smoking fast fire road downhill to the lower canyon. Thanks for the break down, I need to switch up my El Moro rides.
You can do it!!!!! I think they are very similar when it comes to the size of the rocks. With a short travel bike line choice it key as you know. With 160/150 I can just smash through almost all of it.
Nice video! The chunky sections are wide with good visibility and not really steep, so hopefully no bone breaks even if one falls, but I definitely recommend paddings. I really hated riding down further and climbing back the firetrail, so I usually hike back the chunk and ride back. As long as you stay right and keep eyes open while hiking back, not too dangerous, given that it's relatively less popular. I am guessing others hate the firetrail 😆
Rocks hurt even with pads...The ride back is a bit of a draw back for Rattlesnake. I went even lower and went up the other ridge. Someone must have a better route with this trail.
@@MTBMOR I took the left line and went otb... Jk man, yeah it was too hot so I ended up not going. Might try it in the next few weeks if things cool down enough
Great breakdown of the trail! I’ve been once and those rocks are intimidating, so it’s nice to have your different line choice opinions to help decide which line to take. My last ride there we had a couple of people in my group go down in those rock sections!
Good...we don't ride them in the rain, but that doesn't happen much. The section just at the end of Rattlesnake turns into sticky mud at the first sight of rain so I would make sure it's dry. There are other places to ride when there's a little moisture.
@@JB8-e8p it varies from year to year. We usually get 1-2 big storms a year. It might average out to 2-3 days of rain a month. Orange County parks will close for up to 72 hours when there is a big rain.
@@ray_marcelo_ Yes, that will work. I did a ride with Orange County Mountain Bike Group and that's how we started. We didn't go too far on Rattlesnake because the group wasn't strong enough, but it was fun. How are you planning on returning to the car? No name or continuing to the bottom on Mach whatever....

That fast downhill is still there (Mach 1). 20 years ago we were almost young LOL :)
Gotta watch later...this trail just keeps giving, last time I counted 6 or so rock gardens. A project to get clean.

I knew about the first one, but not the second. It's not easy to look around when you are approaching a chunky section.

Where's the best place to park to hit this trail?
I like parking at the top of Ridge Park on the Newport side, but you can also get here easily from Willow.
