What's up , bro? It's really refreshing to see someone come up straight from the bottom and do really well. I'm an old school road bike rider from the 1980s. Right now I'm leaning toward Gravel Biking when I do get the courage to start back again. Right now I'm 69 and I think I should really think this over. But anyway, glade to see what you've done. Peace, my friend!!!!
Was there just over a year ago - they took care of us so well - trail advice, a warm welcome, just as happy to talk for 10 mins over a gel purchase as sell you a 5K trail rig. LOVE THEM. If you're ever there, put some dollars in the tin for the trails builders.
2nd time at Fruita a group of us met a guy nicknamed Maximilian (aka Max). Max worked at this same iconic shop and within a few minutes we had plans to ride Lunch Loop trails with him and shuttle the next day. The night after our awesome ride, Max and our group went to all the bars in town, while Max sported a full captain's cape around his neck (I think it was pink) and the fun continued. Super friendly people that just want to have a good time and want the same for visitors. Great memories and I hope to return with the family someday. Keep it real Fruita!
As a bike industry lifer, and prior bike shop owner - this was so wonderful to watch. Thank you
Pls,I want to buy a full suspension mountain bicycle
This guy is so camp and full of life... I love him... What charisma! And what a story.
My good friend is starting a bike shop in New Jersey and this was the perfect watch for him. We have had many conversations about being able to help riders out on the spot with basic problems. This is surprisingly something most shops are not willing to do. Thank you.
We are with you all the way Troy and we can only wish to achieve what you have in 20 more years (we are 5 years in so far). Respect!
The passion in Troy's voice speaks volumes, so knowledgeable in all things mountain biking, made me realise the importance of supporting small businesses, they don't create customer service as these guys do. Wish you even more success in the future.
Coming from "Gunny" ... (CO.), in the late 70's through the mid 80's I recognize the extraordinary vision, dedication and passion for a fledgling sport that soon defines a and distinguishes a community. True genius is clearly recognized by those who saw but had not the courage at the time! Bravo sir
We don't even call it that
@@danieloshea3326 “Gunnison” sorry didn’t intend to disrespect but keep in mind people make up there own slang terms for their hone/ youjust eeren’t one of the (our) inner circle
What a great job, Mo & Hannah! More folks need to see this video and hear Troy to spread the gospel of MTB Love!!!
As a fellow small business guy, I'm totally on board with his buy local message. And remember - if you go to a small business like this because of the wealth of knowledge and expertise they offer, then please buy your gear there! If you just go and buy it online to save a couple of bucks and treat them like the public library getting free information, then places like this eventually go away and everyone loses.
Troy’s message about the future of mountain biking is spot on. Very sincere and genuine. I’m definitely stopping by OTE next time I’m in Fruita.
I love this shop so much!! Always ready to help! Can't resist tipping these guys for all their help over the years.
Wow, this was honestly a great video! Troy seems like such an awesome guy. I really dig his overall outlook on mountain biking, but more importantly community and people. These are the kind of people/places we need more of in my opinion, and why I love supporting my local shops. Fruita honestly wasn't high on my list of destinations for riding, but I'll definitely be moving it up and when I go I'll be stopping by Over the Edge to support them!
You have built some incredible trails and one heck of a bike shop in Fruita.
That moment Troy was talking about happened for me in Fruita, on Zippity. Thank you for making that moment possible Troy. Awesome video
That was totally inspiring! Thanks put out this interview with Troy!
I worked there for a little bit when I moved Grand Juction. Definitely a mountain bikers bike shop 👍🏾
What's old is new again ! Congrats thanks for sharing
I could listen to him all day long, what a positive person as we need way more in this world
he should have his own podcast....
I love that you are so friendly with the sport you don't see that with. Roadies most of the time it is very aggressive
Good one guys,
this is so important for all MTB'ers to see and hear!
This is what HISTORY is all about...wonderful people like this that care about the right things and preserving the roots!
Duuuuude, went there for the first time in 2000 on the way to Moab; been telling everyone it’s my favorite bike shop since then. Troy speaks the deep truth about mtn biking!
Dude , Post more of this type of stuff !! Way Cool , Thanks for making this video .
Love this guy's philosophy on mountain biking.
Agreed. This service department is amazing!
Greatness, filled with passion, that’s what it’s all about! Congrats on longevity in an uncertain world, not easy!
Wow.. this guy is rad! I hope shops like this will be around for a long time. Support your locals not your corporates.
This dude is a legend! Great interview.
This is so Rad! Fruita and Over the Edge is awesome. It's been a long time since I was last out there, so thanks for sharing!
Awesome story! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks!!
Hey great to see Troy, love catching up when he’s down under at Melrose.
Retail, the way it used to be. And - Colorado is such a cool state.
World needs more people like this guy.
This was an excellent interview. Thank you guys for posting this!
I love this guys philosophy I dont wanna drop names but riding mtb the past 20 years ive meet a lot of people including bike makers, there was this guy who just likes biking and welding stuff so he just randomly started welding bikes then some guy like it and it boomed. i mean literally everyone can make a bike now with just a cheap welding machine and some tubes. i even see bamboo bikes now. If you love it just do it and people will surely support you.
Online deals are great and all, but nothing beats a brick and mortar bike shop.
I got into Mtn biking in early 1992, went to Moab in '94, and remember hearing about Fruita in I believe 1996. Hope to one day make it there and back to Moab in the future.
You have to love Troy's attitude and love of cycling, that's what draws people to shops like that.
Went to Fruita on our honeymoon, we left right after I crossed the finish line at the Chequamegon Fat Tire Fest. My bike got a little trashed in the race and OTE fixed it in less time then it took us to walk to the liquor store to get some beers for the campsite!
Best show yet !
Thanks for content this was a great interview .
What a great video! Mo and Hannah you bring out the best in folks! 🤘
Wow! What a speach. My heart is going up. At 58 Love MTB for life. Greets from Germany
Cool to hear such a passionate individual. Looks like a rad dude!
Such an awesome interview! He seems like such a cool dude!
Great story. Very inspirational. Loved how you mentioned the history of the building. My great-great-great-great grandfather was a Furniture Maker/ Under Taker in Salem, Nebr..
Well done video! I'm putting Fruita on "my places to visit" list. Can't wait to explore there. Thanks.
Que vídeo incrível! Aplaudi por JP¥ 500 👏👏
Hey I live in Montrose Colorado, thanks for the shout out!!! Over the edge is dope !!!
I’ve been to the Melrose over the edge about 3 times. It’s pretty sick! They had a job going once and I thought I’d love to work there but it’s just a bit far away ☹️ anyway! That’s so cool to see and hear the guy that started it all!!! 🤘🏻
Troy is a legend! love this!
I didnt realize how Iconic this spot was, was there last month rented a bike for the day as I am just getting into the sport and earlier this week called the store to purchase a bike that they are holding for me until I get back in the area, could have bought elsewhere but something about this place I wanted to buy from them. still an awesome shop in 2023!
That’s amazing!’ They are the best!!!
Troy, Hammin' it up.
Community is Everything
Now go ride your bike!
Great Story Great Guy! Thanks for sharing this
What a great video, shop and bloke!!! Thank you
Boy. I remember going there back in the 90's when I was heading to Crested Butte.
Troy's the best advocate for mtb you can listen to.
Love this shop! Been going here for 20+ years.
How could anyone give that a thumbs down?!!!
Awesome video thanks for sharing.
Great store, great staff and great video, never heard of the shop though.
Great shop, awesome trails. Close to Grand Junction too!
Nice vid Mo & Hannah!
Thank you!!!!
Lots of good shops around but these guys have never failed me. In fact they go above and beyond every time.
I couldn't agree with you more Troy. Keep doing what you do, exactly how you do it.
Happy guy! I love riding with happy guys! oh let’s pour some happiness! Thanx for sharing👊🏽👍🏽
Onya Troy, See you soon here in Western Australia...
I went for the first time in 1998. Troy gave me a (hand drawn) map and sent me on my way. Been going back ever since...
Walmazon lol, I'm using that from now on.
Fantastic ! 👍🚴
Love Fruita! Kevin at CBB is great too!
Good stuff. And Kudos to Annie and Jen who have Hot Tomato and got their start at OTE.
This was the last bike shop we were in before shit hit the fan and the world went covid crazy. Had to fly back to BC the next day to make sure we got home. This shop was historic to say the least. Loaded with merch and customer service like no other LBS I've been to. We will be back when when sanity returns.
This is awesome! I have worked in bike shops for years. There was nothing more I loved better than having a new rider come to my shop and I help them pick out their first bike, let them know about all the things I know, then seeing them come back in 3 months later telling me how much they love cycling. There really are some things you can't get online, and one of them is service. I have also seen the impact that the internet has had on small businesses like bike shops. We don't do it because we want to be rich, we do it because we love cycling, and want to share that love with others, even triathletes. (just kidding, I hate triathletes) ( seriously though...I hate them) ( no for real, they are just customers.....that think they are the most important and have to tell everyone about their training) (ok, if they have money, I like them)
Pls help me I want to buy a full suspension mountain bicycle
@@joelanaba9460 The first thing you need to do is decide what type of riding you want to do, and what type of bike you should get. There are many different types of mountain bikes and there are many different types of full suspension bikes. Not brands, but types. Some bikes are meant for steep, rocky descents others are meant for racing, and others are for all around riding. A basic full suspension bike, that would be worth riding, is going to start around $1800. If you buy something cheaper it's going to be cheap and not worth the trouble. You would be better off buying a hardtail for $800-$1200. I would say look for a good used full suspension, but if you don't know about bikes it is extremely hard since you wouldn't know what to look for, and you wouldn't be able to tell how much repairs it needs.
Your best bet if you want to get into the sport is find a friend that knows about biking and have them help you. If you don't know anyone, then start reading about bikes online. There are a few good mountain bike web sites that will explain what to look for, and help you decide what bike to get. When you are ready find a local bike shop and go in there. Don't go to a big box store and try to buy a bike because they have crap and they don't have people that will help you. Local bike shops have people that will want to spend time to help someone like yourself. Good luck.
I love going on journey with ma bike.so any full suspension with nice brakes.sharp.
Such an awesome guy and shop!
Shimano airlines shifting. OMG! I've been riding for 40 years and remember all of that stuff, but even at the time I never understood why they wanted to complicate shifting like that. It had a pressurized can that would allow you to shift, but when that can ran out, so did your shifting.
Troy, Troy, Troy! Walmazon is fabulous ha ha. Thanks for all you did to make it possible for me to come out and ride 18 Road. To think that we met in Jamaica! ya mon.
What a cool shop! I will visit there one day soon!
If the owner likes vintage Rocky Mountains, he'd love my 1992 Team Comp with XT and Syncros bits.
I was there for the first time in 1996. I also went to the first 7 or 8 fat tire festivals
Inspirational man
What a top boy, great video.
great guy and great biz
very down to earth guy you could listen to him all day talk about mtb
Awesome video! Inspiring
this good man should have his own PODCAST !
Awesome interview and history. Big thanks to Troy and OTE for further putting mountain biking on the national map and in the face of land managers. He's done an amazing job with making Fruita a true destination town now. I have yet to visit.
It's such a shame that the same respect hasn't been given in many other public areas around the country. Specifically, the SF Bay Area, the birthplace of the mountain bike. Marin Co. is unbelievably anti-bicycle. The self-proclaimed "environmentalist" hikers DRIVE to the trails and then complain about cyclists using public lands. How's that for hypocrisy! And other counties and cities aren't much better. I was riding Bay Area trails BEFORE the single track was restricted to hikers. When prohibitions went into place, I assumed it would be short-lived. Or at least if the sport gained popularity, prohibitions would fall. Nope. Still in place in most locations. Even after land managers conceded the fact that bicycles do not cause erosion like was previously assumed, prohibitions remain. This is absurd and the result of bias and entrenched interests. Mountain bikers outnumber many other user groups (especially equestrians), yet find the fewest trails open to their use. If conflict is a problem, then provide more trails, perhaps EXCLUSIVE trails to cyclists. They say that's unreasonable. So they lump everyone together without expanding trail networks. And then wonder why conflict exists.
And from an environmental and climate-change perspective, you don't have another sport that offers what mountain biking offers: the sustainability aspect. What other sport gets people out of their cars, out of plague-ridden subway trains, and free of transportation energy needs? The bicycle. A mountain biker is far more likely to embrace bicycle commuting than a football player, or any number of other sporting activities.
This is an aspect that mountain biking advocates should exploit: we're a transportation solution, healthy lifestyle choice, AND a great sport.
And about OTE Fruita... THAT is how you start and run a profitable and successful bicycle shop: buy the property when it's feasible and own it! That, however, takes some serious luck and prescience!
What a great video!!!!
Did you guys eat at the Hot Tomato? Hope you were able to - the food is soooo good and it's just up the block from OTE. BTW, great video about OTE!
Always stop for a pie when I ride the 18 rd. trails.
It seems like your best videos are the ones that you and Hana don't get in, this one and the ibis owner are the best ones maybe you should do more interview mtb videos
thank u for sharing this .
always healthy and always success for you om
Damn this is the kind of shop i need in my town.I gave my bike to my local shop for the maintenance of my fork and they keep it 2 months.....plus i'm not sure they even disassemble it ,i suspect they just clean the outside and pumped some lubrificant through the seal kit ......
Best bike shop I have ever been to..they will turn any repair around in an hour
great shop, go on. love mtb!
Bought my Rocky Mountain from them. Super customer service.
What a awesome dude, makes you want to just hang out with him and have a cold one...
Awesome, unfortunately good bike shops are hard to find. This is great to see!
More Troy in the World!
Love this shop!
That's what's fkn annoying me here in Auckland that I have to book an appointment for a small issue that even I know how to fix but don't have right tools to do so. Maybe I just couldn't find a good bike shop. Walking in is a must have option
Excellent story. True practitioners of Conscious Capitalism.
Awesome!
