    The real magic is how you were able to find those camera angles in the confines of a Fiero! You seem cool under pressure, I like that!

    Ok, I've owned my 88GT for 15 years. I want to do an LS1 engine swap, but have not been confident to even consider doing it myself.
    This vid is a sure confident builder. I didn't realize how easy it was to remove the engine. Thanks a bunch!

    THANKS A BUNCH MAN ! im 49 years old and did my 1st cradle to cradle swap from a 87SE 5sp to my 85GT 4 speed.
    5 hours out and about the same going back in. used just your video for reference ! this job was easier than a clutch i did on a fiero by swinging down the cradle !

    • @LostNotForgotton
      @LostNotForgotton  7 лет назад +4

      purplecorn1234 You should totally go for it. At this point if I had a 2.8 that needed an oil change I'd use that as an excuse to do a 3800 swap. I priced out a rebuilt auto trans from a local shop a few years back and it was $1300-1500 installed. A 3800 swap with automatic transmission tend to be between $3,000-$4000 and they are not only a lot more powerful but also more reliable. I have a whole set of install videos. It really doesn't seem as tough to swap as I originally feared.

    I have a 85 SE automatic with an 88 2.8 in its engine bay. My problem is with the torx bolts on the water pump,(three are stripped) and its been a 2 day battle just getting 5 of the top ones out. Very tight quarters to be working in with big hands. Perhaps dropping the engine is a solution in this case, being as how there is no guarantee that the remaining 7 bolts will suddenly begin to cooperate. I have new coolant return lines as well as a new exhaust system that I had planned on installing,but with the motor out to do the water pump, (grind off the heads, or hammer in the torx) and just maybe install the smaller, lighter, and improved alternator,and a "new to me" A C pump. The latter 2 being a pain to work on with the motor in place. Nice Vid by the way.

    So is this pretty much the same on an 84 four speed and 85 4 speed v6? Taking the tranny off the 84 and replacing the 85 with it

    • @LostNotForgotton
      @LostNotForgotton  8 лет назад

      The 4 cylinder is a little different as things may be located in different areas, such as the fuel lines. The manual transmissions will have two shifter cables to remove and a hydraulic clutch line to remove. Other than that it's fairly straight forward.

    how would I replace the clutch fork? would I need to drop the engine?if not is there a way to get to it without pulling the motor? can't find a thing about it

    • @LostNotForgotton
      @LostNotForgotton  7 лет назад +1

      You will most likely have to pull the transmission out to get to it. Maybe there is a way to do it with the transmission still in the car ( I doubt it though) but I don't know how it would be done because you won't be able to get it off the throw out bearing. If you can get an engine brace that supports the engine on the strut towers then you can remove the bolts that connect the engine to the transmission and the rear cradle bolts and swing the crade and transmission down like a door hinge. Most people don't have the engine support to do it that way so you'd have to drop the whole engine out. The other option is having a transmission shop do it. They have those engine braces. I don't know what transmission you have but the Fiero Store sells a clutch fork for the 87-88 Getrag transmission only and it's about $400. Lots to consider but Getrags are the best transmission offered in the Fiero (IMO).

      I believe FieroRog makes a custom machined flywheel that you can buy. If you need more info I can dig up the info on what flywheel to use and what it needs to be machined to if you wanted to have a local shop machine it.

    hi great video i have a 84 with the 4 and 5 speed (?) its been awhile lol one problem i have is the power wire to the computer the connector looked like an accessory plug but i found that that was for the power to the comp. i added a wire to it, had it running 2 days later went to start it and nothing so now im thinking it may be the neutral safety switch. i dont know how to bi pass it to make sure thats the problem. i also found the clutch slaves cyl was jerry rigged using one out of a S10 and it didnt work . i now have the right one . any advice to upgrade the computer or power wiring on a 84 with the 4? great vids by the way. my Fiero has 86000 kilometers . if i was going to swap the motor i was thinking of the Cobalt SS motor what do you think?

    Well ur kinda like the "fiero King" :) so my question is. I was thinking about redoing my origanal fiero wiring. Everything works . But I was thinking of putting in a much simpler or updated universal wiring system. I have a kit so my body is off. Anyhow I'm wondering if it's worth the trouble of replacing the wiring or should I work with what I have? Thank u

    • @LostNotForgotton
      @LostNotForgotton  9 лет назад

      +minihawnsl Thank you! I try to share whatever knowledge I have with anyone who might need it. I love Fiero's and want to help everyone keep theirs alive. My opinion regarding your question is I'd probably just keep the stock Fiero harness. As long as there isn't any issues with it I'd just keep using it. I don't think any universal harness will offer any advantages since the Fiero harness was designed to specifically fit the Fiero's needs. I doubt car manufactures would use any more wire than is needed. If GM made one wire 1" longer than needed and then multiplied that by the number of cars they built in a year that would lead to a lot of excess cost. So car manufactures will only use what they need and not waist their money on excessive wire length. That said, I think you are probably better off keeping your harness.
      However, I would suggest doing the 1227730 ECM upgrade to your harness. That was a great upgrade I did for my Fiero and would suggest it to anyone. I love the way my Fiero revs with that ECM. You can hear my 7730 hit the rev limiter in my cold air intake video and I LOVE the sound of my Fiero hitting the rev limiter ;) You can listen to that here:
      ruclips.net/video/aotZeZFXuC0/видео.html
      A stock Fiero won't rev like that. Your ECM will allow the engine to rev way past the limits of the engine. If interested, you can check out my 7730 video here:

    So, I just watched this video because I'm trying to drop my cradle. I have an 86 GT and it's a 4 speed manual. Let me just say, my car looks nothing like yours and it's maddening. My ac compressor lines are not reachable. Can't even see the bolt because of a giant catalytic converter in the way. My fuel lines have no such fittings like yours. I have yet to figure out how to disconnect. My lines are a solid piece where yours have fittings. There is a fuel filter further down, but there's another fuel line that has no fitting anywhere. I'm assuming its on top of the tank.

      I ended up having to lift the body off of the cradle with the fuel lines intact. Just enough so I could reach the fittings at the gas tank.

    What is the estimated cost for a full engine swap to a 3800 SC in a fiero?

    • @LostNotForgotton
      @LostNotForgotton  7 лет назад +3

      That's a tough question to answer. It really depends on so many factors such as your fabricating skills and what you end up paying for your engine and transmission. If you can't weld (like me) then you'll have to purchase brackets. Doing a manual transmission will cost more than doing an automatic transmission. If you want to add performance parts or paint will also add to your bill. I have $4,900 in mine but I did a pulley upgrade and upgraded suspension. I also replaced parts to improve the engines reliability. I would say you should figure on spending between $3,500 and $5,000. Spending $3,500 is just getting the engine in and running and the more you spend above that would improve reliability, performance and visual aesthetics to your taste. I hope that gives you an idea to shoot for.

    • @LostNotForgotton

      Trift You don't need the air conditioner professionally removed. "Technically" you are supposed to have the Freon professionally removed because it is illegal to release the r12 Freon I to the air. The shops can recapture it and recycle it. If your Freon already leaked out due to old gaskets then its good to go ahead and remove it.
