It’s interesting how the positive effects actually get more noticeable over time, at least in my case. After just a week of taking a cold shower everyday, you‘ll not only have felt the benefits of that dopamine spike, you also start to feel more energized and resilient overall. Step by step, you learn to cope with stress (mental and physical) in a more comfortable way and overcome psychological barriers. Now, I’m going to start an ice bath routine after having been familiar with cold exposure for a while, as someone who has always happily _avoided_ the cold. If I can do it, you can do it too
During the winter when my limbs would get cold, mostly my feet, I found going outside in the snow bare foot for a few actually helped warm them up. Now I know it wasn’t just psychosomatic.
I just took my first cold shower for over 10 minutes i feel reborn pretty sure i overdid it for my first time so if youre not a strong person be like everyone else and start with 30 seconds lol im very sleepy right now
@LisaMarieAdams everyone should do what they want so long as they listen to their body and leave when their body needs them to. If the worst this person had happen after 10 minutes was some sleepiness, they can handle 10 minutes and maybe they got more benefit from it than 1-3 minutes. Everyone is different
When I wake up here lately I have doing a min or 2 of grounding, followed by a little calisthenics workout, some Wim Hof breathing and a cold shower. Generally about 3-5 times a week I just turn the cold all the way up and enjoy an incredibly refreshing shower.
I may have to get back to cold showers. I’ve been getting too soft after a recent PCS as it was stressful but now it’s time to get back to brass tacks!
I experienced COVID that lasted around 12 days. At first, I believed I was fine but I started to lose more hair than normal. After doing some research, I've come to realize it’s from the stress my body went through during that time and also due to the shampoo that I was using. So I began doing yoga and meditation everyday and changed my shampoo and conditioner to littleextrraa coooconion anti hair fall kit. And now i dont face any hairfall. Thanks for this video! I feel so much more at peace.
I was. 11 years old when my Mom sent me and my lil bro to visit Belize and our dad. We ended up staying for 3 years enduring a lot of asss whooping and beatings from our dad by taking cold showers from ages 11-14! Didn’t know it then but the cold showers are what kept us alive ❤
We get warm water out of the cold water spicket for about 5 months of the year here in the Phoenix area. I shut my hot water heater off, and cannot wash my cold water only clothes! Our pipes are not buried deep enough.
I don't even wear a sweater in the wintertime in the PNW. I've only been doing cold showers for a week. It's helped regulate my thyroid hormones as well.
I do feel more energised after taking a cold shower, but I also tend to fall asleep more quickly when reading or watching TV or smth later on. Why is that ?
I was actually addicted to cold showers for a bit and for some reason it was making me really tired so I stopped I’m thinking about trying again now but idk
I used to take a cold shower for years without knowing anything about this, just thought its more sustainable but then my dermatologist said it leads to dry skin so I stopped. Now I’m confused at what would be better.
On a certain level, we have a drug store in our brain, the neurochemicals that show up in the cold: so dopamine, norepinephrine, anandamide, endorphins, and serotonin. If you were to try to cocktail the street drug version of that, right, you're trying to blend like heroin and speed and coke and acid and weed- and point is, you can't do it. It turns out the cold can cocktail all of 'em at once, which is why people will prefer the cold to almost any experience on Earth. It's our favorite experience. It's the most addictive experience on Earth. Why? 'Cause it cocktails five or six of the largest pleasure drugs the cold can produce. We're all capable of so much more than we know. That is a commonality across the board. And one of the big reasons is we're all hardwired for the cold, and the cold is a massive amplification of what's possible for ourselves.
Cold shower feels good to your soul it makes my skin more shiny and smooth and u also hsve a clearer mind after it ...u also feels sleepy if you're not active after it
Just wish the water was colder this time of year, waiting for winter. Doing ice baths for now, a big task to get the ice together. Trying to heal a herniated disc.
Is a herxheimer reaction possible after a cold shower? I became extremely sick after finishing my shower with 5 minutes of cold water. I initially felt great, my neuropathy pain dramatically decreased but within a short amount of time my ears began to ring, I shook internally, muscles locked up, and then anxiety was terrible. What on earth happened?? Was it a herx or is this not good for someone with HPA dysregulation and other health issues?
That explains me giggling like a little bitch when when I force myself to stay longer than 2-3min but that’s amazing feel so much better the last month especially when you suffering from anxiety and depression
I’m in a bad period of life, trying to change it, I take really cold showers daily but I don’t really feel good even after doing it for long. When I used to do it before this phase of my life I used to feel amazing. Why is this so
I honestly don't think it increases cortisol. even because it's quite noticeable when the body increases cortisol, stinky sweat, anxiety.. to feel cortisol, just don't eat and take some energy drink. pure cortisol in the blood.
Here's a trick folks give me a like. Go to the song berserk featuring Iceman. When it's first starts up you wait until you can talking in the song starts hitting and the chest in and you slapping water on your shoulders your unpits on the back and rub yourself vigorously on your crotch rub it vigorously. Two before the song starts up pumping to you liquid soap on your hands tackles two birds with one stone. Once then the song stops during the first half it'll start to talk that's when you back away from cold water and then turn around with the back against the cold water you wait till the song hits and then you plunge yourself into the cold water and and then you start headbanging playing the air guitar and just put all your forefront focus on all the bad stuff stuff you had that has happened to you. Over the whole entire life you just put that in your forefront of your mind and you get angry. And you do this for two song loops so here's the even more once you get really accustomed to it like after like like a week or two weeks into it during another part with the song starts to die out out in the second half and the person starts talking that's what you flip around and you scrub yourself again and put water on your face and keep doing that over and over and over again and then you flip back around listen to the song again with the second time time in a row this song is the best song to listen to when having a cold shower trust me
Cold shower in the morning is too much for me, I'm easing into it taking hot-ish shower first then switching to cold. Does this have the same effect?? I need to know 😭
No….. cocaine created a physical and chemical dependency in the body causing symptoms of withdrawal. Cold showers simply create a positive association / feedback loop. Super different experiences for the body.
Still a stretch to compare as cold shower to a 1 hour 14 celcius immersion (with the researcher stirring the water 😂 it says that in the paper), but I do feel an effect from a cold shower for a few minutes after. The effect from an ice bath is still perceptible hours after for me, that's a real shock to the system.

I was actually addicted to cold showers for a bit and for some reason it was making me really tired so I stopped I’m thinking about trying again now but idk
Yeah cold exposure burns a ton of calories that is why you were tired
If you’re anxious, would cold showers or plunges be bad for you since your cortisol and adrenaline are constantly too high?
No. It does not cause anxiety on the opposite it reduces it.
