  • So as promised a video on our @jediracingcars hillclimb car, bit of information on what’s on the car and in the car. It really is a fantastic racing machine. 2021 is going to be a great year, there are more updates due over the winter break but we will talk about those when they happen. The Jedi is a great affordable way into single seater racing. This car is hugely capable and still has more potential to unlock. There is a small talk on the new engine on what’s in it and what it is.

    Nicely done video! Interesting engine combination.

      Thank you Steve, yeah it is a bit different, hopefully we will get to put it to good use this year. Venturing outside the southwest a bit more this year and doing some more Midlands hills. Looking forward to meeting more competitors up in the Midlands.

      Hi Mark, the plan is to do one hopefully shortly, we are coming to the end of the season. There have been a few additions to the car since this video and the plan is further development over the winter, engine performance and aerodynamically. I have ideas it’s just working on the budget.

    it has weight saving cut outs everywhere ,proper low fat no nonsense chapman type of build , its brilliant 👍

    Very cool I have been working on a speedway car with a similar driveline set up but be it a live axel
    But it's a very interesting look at a small hill climb special

    I am looking at GSX-S1000 engines, as GSX-R1000 K8s have become scarce in Australia and have doubled in price.

      The gsxs engine is not a bad bet really, you will want the later 2017 onwards really as that is a lot closer to the GSXR internally. There was mods made on the later block which the 2015-2016 didn’t have. We’ve had good power in the end at 180hp and that’s still with standard off the shelf Suzuki parts. I plan on changing a few bits for next year and wind the power up.

    Cool. No drifting to get around turns?
    What was the clicking sound on deceleration, it sounded like the chain jumping sprocket teeth?
    Onboard footage reminded me of the Isle of Mann TT

      We use a really sticky rubber in hillclimbing that heats up quick. The back end is so well planted that you really have to stand on the pedal hard to get the back to drift but I use the hard braking and downshifting to rotate the rear around the front by locking up the rear axle, the clicking sound is the stress through the chain and diff locking up as it’s trying to slow down the rear wheels.

      No cush drive, just the tyres skipping.

    What size sprockets did you use?
    Front? Especially the rear size:)

    • @reallybigkidd
      @reallybigkidd  3 года назад

      The sprockets depends on the venue, last year with the 2001 k1 gearbox I was running a 14t on the front and a 51t on the rear. The new engine has a totally different box and the gear ratios are different apart from 2nd gear. We are still experimenting with sprockets trying to work out what is best. I should be testing a 14t front and 48t rear this weekend but the weather is rather wet so I’m not sure how much I can learn with traction being an issue.

    there's no slack in that gear box every shift sounds like you just left first gear ! Nice and short always deep into the torque range... i hate gearboxes with massive gaps like 4speed dog boxes from usa / old muscle cars...fit an entire gearbox between 2nd & 3rd 😆

    • @reallybigkidd
      @reallybigkidd  2 года назад

      One of the big advantages of the motorbike gearbox it’s so close together, the new engine that is in the car now sounds like the engine note never changes in 4/5/6 you just hear the blips from the flatshift in the revs when I pull for the next gear. We run it so low on the sprockets you launch in 2nd gear as first is a bit like a crawler gear just too low.

      It sounds awesome i watched about 3times😂...does it mind being made to rev faster then a factory gsxr1000 would?
      Probably heat up quicker with the extra load of the weight vs bike weight , sounds like there's zero resistance just smashes up the revs effortless..
      Just slightly annoying doing Flintstones feet for reverse gear 😂 , im using same tech for my reverse..

      @@reallybigkidd wait how do you reverse !? My set has open floor but yours is sealed ?

    Where do you find the rear diffs?

    • @reallybigkidd
      @reallybigkidd  2 года назад

      The original rear diff came out of a classic mini mounted to a back plate to which you could fit a chain ring and then an oil bell fitted over the top to keep it lubricated. The common fit now for the Jedi racing cars and bike engined single seaters that is chain drive is the qdf7zr quaife atb which is grease filled but for us it would have meant that we would have had to change the back of the chassis to accommodate it along with new driveshafts and outputs.
