At 8 years old, I couldn’t listen to this song when it came out. I realize now the emotion in the song and video overwhelmed me. This morning I woke up with it on my mind. My best friend of 20 years is flying across the country for an interview, and I know they are going to love her and hire her. We went on a weekend trip and were reminiscing about all the fun we have had (we actually saw Phil Collins together) and I can’t help but think this may be the start of a new season in her life. I want that for her. I know it may be best for her, and so I’m going to get really acquainted with Idaho…What happened at the end of this video will not happen to us, we are sisters forever.

It’s hard to remember a song with so much meaning. The depth and feeling here is so meaningful. We can all relate to the story Phil is telling us and we have our own story here.
After watching many of his videos these past few weeks while far away from home in Bulgaria, I believe Phil Collins has the true spirit of a lyrical poet of old. He sings about valuable ideals and many of his songs if released today could be instant hits on the Top10. I lived this song at least twice in my lifetime. The line, "..cause I love you, but I can't take anymore, there is a look I can't describe in your eye.." always tugs on the scars. But, it also reminds me of the journey I have been on to where I am now. I'm 52 now and more appreciative of what and who is in my life, my grand babies and still on the path.

This song is very easy to be overlooked on the great “But Seriously” CD. The line “There was always something more important to do, more important to say”. “But I love you wasn’t one of those things, and now it’s too late”. Reminds me of my late Mom. We had a good relationship but I moved several hours away the last 20 years that she was alive. I tried to call and visit as much as I could, but now feel that I could have said I love you more. She passed away 5 years ago and hearing that line tore me apart. I love you Mom always and forever.

I was 11 years old when this song was released. Same as the video story, I also have a beautiful friend, who was 10. We had a good time together until she moved out of town because of her father's duty. From that day until now, I have never known where she is and how was she doing. But I believe she is happy with her life now.
