They're not hiring managers. They're hiring head coaches. Until the managers realize that they're never going to be in a position to call shots on squad personnel again at a big job, we'll continue seeing big jobs go to light resumes who are willing to accept the parameters of the job on offer.
Chelsea would become such a scary team under EnzoMaresca. I fear they would become a great tiki taka side that can play complex sophisticated tactics. This is the first time a Chelsea fan can actually enjoy good football, not boring parking the bus stuff. I am happy for them.
You could say that yes, but criticising an interim manager for using the squad of the previous manager is funny like wtf he meant to do Did roberto di Matteo use villas boas squad to win the CL?
Roman hired world class manager after world class manager - Chelsea are now hiring a manager from the Championship with no Prem or any other first division experience- Only other managerial experience is getting sacked after six months from a Serie B side. Clearlake = Clueless
Finding a manager to beat Pep is close to impossible: Pep has won 12/15 total league in his career. Pep has only lost 3 available league titles in 15 seasons. It took 3 All-time coaches + luck. The 3 being Mourinho-Real Madrid, Conte-Chelsea, Klopp-Liverpool. Both Conte + Klopp benefited from Pep adjusment seasons + injuries. Conte won it during Pep debut season in PL after Pep made major squad changes removing Joe Hart for a flop Claudio Bravo, took many risks, team couldn't play his football. Took Mourinho 100 point Real Madrid, Took Conte 93 point Chelsea, Took Klopp 99 point Liverpool to win a league in Pep era. These managers are rare.
Leicester fan here. While I think we are all slightly shocked that this has happened, I haven’t heard anyone mention that they will be particularly sad to see enzo go. His naivety really showed in the 2nd half of the season where we almost bottled automatic promotion and his tactical stubbornness was seriously frustrating. The style of football isn’t great to watch either but with premier league level players it might work better, we shall see
Rory is a smart man, he knows exaclty what he's doing. That's why he never mentions all the conments all year of him contradicting himself week to week. He gets so many comments from that kind of behaviour
I thought I was gonna miss your Poch rants, but you’ve pulled me in for another season... Good man Rory, although keep an eye on your blood pressure pal 👍
so as a chelsea fan, are you saying that he had no plan B only cuz your bench is limited? If so then chelsea should be fine cuz our squad overall is good
Man City only have a Plan B, because their financial chicanery has given them 3 top players in every position. A plan B speaks for itself in that situation
Chelsea will have Nico Jackson, one of Sterling/Mudryk, Madueke, Gusto, Chilwell, Chuwuemeka, to change things off the bench if needed. And that's assuming no summer signings
Prediction before watching: Rory the romantic will hate this. He will think he isn’t a big name and his experience is insufficient for this job and the importance of Chelsea. He thinks the story and grandeur of managerial appointments need to fit the size of the club, completely ignoring Barcelona’s success. This will also be blamed on Boehly instead of Egbahli, who drove Poch out.
Not only his association with Pep, also most importantly his association with Joe Shields (always good when coach and director get along). Association with Multiple current players - Palmer, Lavia, Cacedei, new player Tosin also
I do agree with you Rory......... Ancelotti IS THE greatest manager EVER!!! Nobody has the trophy haul that the Italian has, all over Europe and, to top it off, he has an unbelievable 6 CHAMPIONS LEAGUE TITLES to his name. Pep Guardiola has time on his side to match Ancelotti but, until he does so....... he stays in the very large shadow of the Italian.
Maresca plays possession based football. He normally plays a 4-3-3 with the RB inverting into midfield to have numerical advantage and use a man to man press . Maresca was Man City under 23 coach and won the league. He also conceded the least goals in the Championship last season. He worked with Cole Palmer and Romeo Lavia meaning he knows them and Enzo Fernandez Will benefit from Maresca appointment. Overall this is a decent appointment
Rory mate I’m sorry but you have been calling for Pochetino’s head all season long, they finally get rid of him, and you’re still complaining, how bout just back Maresca and see what he can do
Bro, his stint at Parma wasn't this huge nightmare that you think it was. 4 wins, 5 draws, and 5 losses in 14 games. The bloke Parma replaced him with had 7 wins, 11 draws, and 7 losses in 25 games. They were hardly a good team. Their best player was a 44 year old Buffon in goal.
No one denies this Moresca system needs players that are outstanding in their league, it's not a good system to be fighting relegation. If we wanted that, I hear Big Sam is currently looking
its so incredible how your owners sacked pochettino with the major reason being not wanting to sell two of your best players, because they still want to do their own risky business and tryna keep control of the entire club. and i was starting to fear chelsea was going to become better again 2024/25 after the way chelsea finished this season. lmao
I feel poch would have got top 4 this season. Now we got to let this new guy adapt and give him a few more seasons. I mean if he gets top 4 I think he’ll stay tho
Well chelsea were good then and Graham potter was unproven at a top team. Now Chelsea are shit with a meh to shit manager. Less of a gap for ‘inspiration’
Also if you look at Germany and Spain. New managers such as Alonso and Xavi (not withstanding his stint in Saudi) have proven sometimes it’s worth the gamble to try something new.
It’s not a gamble. They both learned complex tactics from a young age. Alonso’s father played for Barcelona and was a manager. Xavi is a LaMasia graduate. They are both Spanish midfielders. And most importantly they learned extremely complex modern tactics from PepGuardiola.
From what I heard about Maresca, his football may be little boring, but at the same time he was doing good changes during the matches. Tactically he is a good coach, but I am not sure if he will be able to adapt very fast to PL, it's just a huge difference between those two leagues.
Rory mate people make fun of you because of some of your takes, like on Haaland etc. but believe me, you have pointed out everything that is wrong with this ownership and Chelsea in this video. From Poch starting to do well, and Maresca being a yes man, everything is nailed on. Brilliant video mate.
Poch has built the foundation and now Maresca can build his Pep style of football on this Chelsea team. This could potentially be a good appointment for Chelsea, seriously.
The two biggest things Poch did, start playing Chalobah, and dropping Enzo Fernandez, they've hired Maresca because he's a yes man, he wont give any push back to the board, the football is now a secondary thing, it's all about the business side
Regardless Liverpool fan, i do enjoy your videos and the raw emotions that i can relate too as another fotball fan😊. I really feel for Chealse fans, and its really heart braking having your club hijacked by the new owners😢.
"Chelsea should be competing with Manchester City" is such a true statement. No club should spend the money Chelsea have spent and not expect to compete with us.
I'm a Manchester United fan and I'm genuinely concerned about this appointment for Chelsea. I don't see how these players will fit the way Maresca wants to play, and I don't think he'll make it to the end of the season. I was MORE concerned that United would sack EtH and Chelsea were going to hire him.
Sadly, we are at point where we are employing the coaches which biggest experience was working as an assistant, but this is our reality. I believe Maresca have ability to success here in Chelsea, but this season will be very hard. So many changes in the club continues and he will not get any very good transfers, most players who played 1-2 seasons in different leagues. I am not sure what to expect him to do this season. Personally I believe doing top 4 and winning Conference league would be almost impossible, not speaking about domestic cups, but that's what we hear, club expect from him. I just hope that if he will not succeed in this season that much as they expect, but we will progress, he will get another year as I don't believe they would sign some experience coaches. I would have little more hope for this season if Poche would stay, but in bigger view I have higher hopes for Maresca doing something great here. Hopefully everything will end good...
I have seen lots of conflicting reports on Maresca. On one hand a masterful tactician who plays a cultured brand of football but his way is slow and monotonous. Lesser sides who employed a low block beat Leicester with only 25% of the possession. This happened at the back end of the Leicester championship winning season. That is a huge worry as we struggled for large parts of the season when faced by that tactic. It was an issue that Potch openly admitted that he struggled to overcome. My fingers are crossed but as each day passes my confidence in Winstanley and Stewart decreases. It would be great if we actually had a sporting director who had sat at the top table of European football but instead we have a couple of chancers who have positioned themselves as the architects of Brighton. When the citeh owners took over the club, they looked at Barcelona and they chose to try and emulate them. They took their football brains trust and built the foundations and now they have mirrored the treble winning season of Barcelona 2008/9. So what are we trying to emulate ... Finishing mid table and selling our best players to help keep the club coefficient! Well done clearlake you are well on the way to restructuring Chelsea to emulate the achievements of Brighton!
I heard there's a guy who once sold Pep a black roll neck jumper who's looking for a career change, might as well have given him a shot on a 30-hour conttact.
Rory in my honest opinion you’re gonna hate him, he plays a similar style of football that sarri did (and how’d that go with Chelsea fans) but I could be wrong
he is a good manager , i think his time at parma was just dumb by the owners thats why he got sacked . but that being said the sacking of potter doesnt make sense at all because you will be exactly the same as you were with potter with maresca aswell
I understand the Ancelotti point, however this young squad need a strong system. For now they need to be told exactly what to do when to do, until it is drilled into them like robots. After a significant period of time within this system, then and only then can the players be given more freedom to express themselves
Lmao lmao Rory, you are hilarious 🤣🤣🤣🤣Trevor Chalobah was i jured for 80 percent of the season. Without Disasi who knows where we would have ended up. Busy eaiting for Chalaboh to return PLEASE
Interesting point about pragmatism Rory. I think Howe's lack of pragmatism cost my team many points this season trying to play his 'system' when so many first team players were missing. Hopefully he has learnt from his mistakes. Good luck at Chelsea. They cost us dear this season and keep on buying our targets but that's something we will just have to deal with.
Here’s the thing… I don’t think Poch was ever good enough for the Chelsea job but he got sacked unfairly which can make sense if your brining in a world class manager & a serial winner but it’s definitely not one of them cases. Gotta feel for Chelsea fans.
