6:37 - The defensive line and using the goalkeeper
8:18 - Attributes needed to play as an inverted full-back
    9:15 - Creating space
    10:12 - Defensive transition
10:50 - Maintaining control to create more chances
In this fascinating Coaches’ Voice Masterclass, Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca discusses the hot topic of inverted full-backs.
Maresca is among the most highly-rated coaches in modern football. His teams have a reputation for controlling games, courtesy of his tactical approach.
At Leicester, as well as in previous spells as head coach of Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad and with Parma, he has used inverted full-backs. He also assisted Pep Guardiola during Manchester City’s treble-winning campaign, where the concept of a player from the back line joining the midfield was employed.
Now, in this exclusive Masterclass, Maresca explains the thinking behind a full-back coming inside, how that can match up against various opposition formations, plus the positional requirements of the role.

The owners actually know what they want, whether it will work is another thing.
See how they got Potter immediately after sacking TT? See how they switched to youngsters after buying K2, Auba, Cucu, Sterling?
Now they want possession-based football with a young coach.
It's obvious they have advisers. Whether it will work is another matter

Prefer Mc Kenna over him because what Mc Kenna did was incredible from winning league then winning championship immediately on the following season. Also prefer De Zerbi because he is a Genius, even Pep praised him. However Enzo should do well given a team like Chelsea with top players that would benefit his playing style.
It would be more about can he keep the whole group happy and close. Just not sure if Enzo could dominate. Looks to me like Chelsea is just trying to play safe.

    • @chelseagodfather
      @chelseagodfather 8 дней назад +1

Correction: Enzo won the Championship in his first season at Leicester but in fairness to McKenna, Leicester’s squad is much better than Ipswich so finishing second was a better feat (plus promotion). 💙👍🏾

    • @footballfan5048
      @footballfan5048 8 дней назад +2

@@chelseagodfather Yes I agree to this. I just think Chelsea went to the safer route thinking that if they could get someone that knows how to coach like Pep then it's more about the qualities of the player they got. It's just a more safer route on paper but I don't think with Maresca Chelsea will dominate but likely they will do well to make top 6.

Not all Pep assistants end up being amazing manager, Arteta was an exception as he was a coaching prospect years before becoming Pep's assistant. Most people who knew him said he would be a fantastic manager, Pep used to call him for advice and he forced Guardiola to get a set piece coach. This young Enzo guy seems decent but no one knew who he was and I don't get a vibe he knows what he's doing, just copying Pep, I always feel with Arteta that although he learnt a lot from Pep but he actually knows what he's doing.

@@ramiresn2234 600 million, in 2020 Arsenal finished 43 points behind first place Liverpool, he then spent 600 million to take Arsenal from 8th to 2nd. The gap between City and Liverpool to Arsenal was insane but now Arsenal have overtaken Liverpool and as Walker said "Arsenal are closing the gap and unless we improve we'll fall behind".
No Arteta didn't copy Pep Guardiola, they are completely different managers, nothing alike. Arteta is all about being able to play any style of football, Guardiola is completely against that, he's all about possession, Tika Taka and he adapts that system every season. As I said Arteta was a coaching prospect years before working for Guardiola, everywhere he went people said he would be a fantastic coach one day and Pep Guardiola legit called him for advice and when he moved to England he instantly called Arteta to become his assistant manager. Yes Arteta learnt from Guardiola but like Pep says "you always ask me what I taught Mikel but never what he taught me".
You talked about Arteta buying Pep's players, no he bought players he had previously worked with personally at City and they didn't fail, actually their issues weren't their ability but their availability. Zinchenko isn't as bad as people pretend, he's a very good player but Arsenal outgrew him needing a more physical left back and he was dropped because of injuries. Jesus has been a brilliant signing, he hasn't been so good this year but he's only started 21 games and still has 17 G/A while playing around 5-10 of those games on the wing, he's a fantastic player but injuries has made him suffer.
Now an explanation as to why this Enzo guy doesn't seem to know what he's doing, he's literally just describing a Pep system, he has no identity and also Leicester fans wanted him sacked because they weren't very good, teams figured them out and they bottled a 17 point lead at the top of the Championship. They scraped promotion

I’m very very excited about this man at Chelsea! These days tactical intricacies is a massive part of a managers success, arguably more than experience as we have seen with Teta, Alonso, Amorim, Motta, Xavi (who won the league the year before as a newbie), Slott. And these guys are not as experienced as Tuchel, Mourinho, Conte but the difference is these managers are very technical. This is one of the reasons I believe he will grow this team, I’m of a different school of thought than many journalists and fans I don’t believe that experience = higher chance of success

I thought tbh we’d just be all-out attack this year, but we’ve been more focused on building up the play and yes it can be slightly dull at times, but it’s incredibly difficult to play against as we are so strong in the midfield compared to the rest of the league and can easily win the ball back to create forward momentum.

    Chalobah
    Colwil
    Reece
    Chilwel
    Gusto
    Caicedo
Badiashile are naturally excellent in possession and playing short passes under pressure.
Cucurella, caicedo, Gusto, Chalobah and Gallagher are like mad dogs when they lose possessions and will do anything to track back and regain possession.
My only problem are with Jackson, Mudryk, Childish Maduike and inconsistent Sterling, the coach needs to teach and bring out the best from these players.
Our forwards will have no problems pressing I can assure you that.
My humble opinion is that our new coach's tactics will bring the best out of these lads and I bet you it's gonna City, Arsenal and Chelsea in the top 3.

I think with a structure like this Reece should be our RCB with Gusto being the RB and later the inverted midfielder. I see half spaces when defending with this system at the fullback regions and Reece and too. So with a 3-4-3 structure James is RCB Fofana as CB with either Colwill or Cucu as LCB. Caicedo and Gusto as two pivot with Enzo and Palmer in the pockets around zone 14 with Madueke Mudryk and Jackson upfront

To allow one of the full backs to play as a holding midfielder is a great idea.. Mostly, all the fullbacks are good on the ball and playing in the midfield wouldn't be difficult for them to adapt to.. The best coach is one who can sell his ideas or philosophy to his players, and they buy into it.. Am confident with the quality of players that Chelsea has, they will make it happen for Enzo Maresca.. I wish him all the best..

Chelsea. This is exactly how Bohley had drawn it up. 😘
I’m nearly 75% sure Maresca will be our manager. If the reports are true. He is 44 (youngish), he plays extremely similar to how Poch has been trying to do all season. He values control of a game through high 60’s early 70’s percent possession. He uses wingers, 10’s and a bounce striker, who can also turn and run at CB’s. The only 4 things I’m unsure about is 1. temperament? 2. does he want to come? 3. Amorim is clearly the number 1 target who doesn’t want to leave sporting (who plays in a similar way). As such can Chelsea afford to go with a 2nd choice and someone hasn’t won anything at the highest level? 4. Does Maresca make young high potential players great? (I guess he did with Casadei to an extend).

I think Maresca is a safe choice because with the profile of the team Chelsea got and how they have been coached by Poch. Shifting to Maresca playstyle won't be that drastic of a change and will follow some similar ideas. But I don't think Maresca is a coach that would have groundbreaking creative ideas and new concept like what Alonso, De Zerbi did.
I think Chelsea will doing well with him but maybe not dominating the league.
Another plus side is that the report said Maresca knowledge of Chelsea youths players impressed Chelsea on the interview. Now it's another thing to make the whole group happy.
