Okay, people. Dota lesson. It seems so many people need it. Let's start with all the skillshots like sunstrike and pudge hooks. In high tiers, landing a skillshot has nothing to do with aim. Or that a hero can walk one of two possible ways and dodge the so called 'skillshot' by chance. Landing a skillshot is a pure mind game. Player 1 is trying to throw a hook. Player 2 knows that, and changes path. Player 1 knows that Player 2 knows, and adjusts hook direction. Player 2 knows that Player 1 knows and adjusts path.... See the pattern here? No luck involved. If a skillshot hits, it was a perfect prediction. If not, the fleeing player predicted better. Throwing spells at random is a big no-go in higher tiers. You don't waste mana and cooldown on the slight chance that you might hit something. The mana can be used more effective, and the cooldown means that you are vulnerable to enemy attacks since one of your spells is down. (Except if you are zeus. 3 Second cooldown on a nuke is a fun thing to throw around randomly, since it also gives true sight :3) Second: PA Crits. RNG Gods helping? As of November 30, 2012, PA Crits are not random anymore. (They never were, technically speaking, but that's another story). The 'lucky' hits are distributed as a pseudo random value. With every hit from PA that is no crit, the chance to get a crit increases. To get crits in teamfights, players farm creeps to get 'non-crit' streaks and therefore start off with a relatively high chance to crit. The only 'luck' thing in this clip was that PA got two crits out of that instead of just one, so she could have died to the bane afterwards. I highly doubt it though.
Good predictions also has to do with luck. There's no way to ensure a prediction becomes reality. Not saying these players don't deserve praises, but some people give too much credit
Giangpro95 Sorry, but I have to disagree :3 The very definition of 'prediction' excludes the existence of luck in a situation. The process of predicting something means taking all known information and calculating a missing information over time (i.e. "predicting his next move"). What we call 'luck' is just the lack of knowledge of all variables and possibilities, so the outcome seems random. Or, to put it in other words: If skillshots are partly 'lucky' (i.e. with a random factor) how could you ever possibly predict the outcome? And in turn, how come good players hit skillshots more often than bad players if the outcome is partly random?
Arne Rademacker I agree, skilled players make better predictions and hit more skillshots. I just want to stress the fact that people give too much credit to the prediction part when something is clearly lucky. Like that BH sun strike or the SF raze, those are plain lucky
Xarai Before insulting someone, check your facts. I recommend reading the patch notes on the PA update that changed the critical hit distribution from random to pseudo random: dota2.gamepedia.com/November_30,_2012_Patch And inform your self about pseudo random distribution in Dota 2: dota2.gamepedia.com/Pseudo-random_distribution The tactic to generate 'non-critical' streaks is well known among good players and was featured in over a hundred vidoes on a couple dozen channels (of which I know, there are probably a lot more.). And because I can't leave it at that: Please people, stop saying "It is like that" if you are not informed about the topic at hand. This is how false and half-knowledge are created.
hexOr, a couple things I think are worth noting but first off, amazing frag movie. The editing was very simple, but the good kind of simple. None of that extra shenanigans going on. Clean and concise. The 6:58 edit of the Mirana arrow reminded me of your early, early Dota 1 videos where all moviemakers used to use that exact edit technique, haha. Solid soundtrack and surprisingly high level plays. Thanks! 5/5
Levin Aadas The title says luck is no excuse that means that luck is no excuse for sucking or good plays. The pa got like 2 crits in a row which is a pretty low % which is like 2.25 % if im right.
saveumberto Yea but what the title means to say is that "Luck is no excuse to die" in that case. For example you cannot say that the pa victim has an excuse since PA is able to do stuff like that xd
xOzone69 i think there's so much more to it than that, you can't blame luck for what happened with the PA, what if he had no items would he have killed those guys, or if he didn't have a BF, you can't blame everything on luck...
Undoubtedly the best Dota 2 video out there as of today (2013/12/25). Thank you once again hexOr. And Merry Christmas to all of you people watching this!
that IO play was simply amazing, saving CK using force staff, while run away from 4 heroes using tether, buy TP and instantly use it... i wonder if he was panicked there?

most are just pure luck and faith. like pudge blind hooks hoping that they're there. I still think hooking between creeps is a much more better skill than skill-and-pray where they are. an appreciate'able skill like invoker's meteor-force staff-sunstrike combo. blind sunstrike is just trial-and-error and only show which ones hit and looks the best in youtube.
Luck or skill, makes for an enjoyable movie and since we don't see the map we don't know if they walked passed any wards or something, makes estimation a lot easier. But yes, I agree on your point on skill.
