Me too!!! ,😘🇪🇦
The guy in the car isn't German, he's from the UK.
He lives in Germany with his German girlfriend.
In the shorts he describes German habits in a satirical way. Super funny to see him doing it (German here)
He reminds me a bit of Buster Keaton.
They are married
His name is Liam Carpenter and he makes great and funny videos about his life in Germany.
Well, he is officially German now. He got the German citizenship. There's a video about this
Thanks for the correction, my data was out of date😞
The Schleim expression makes more sense when you consider the verb "schleimen". Sucking up to someone, trying to impress him in a greasy, slick, slimy way means "sich bei ihm einschleimen" - literally "sliming up to him, greasing yourself into his good graces".
Danke Pippi! ;o)

Best explanation ever!
edit: not literally
cucumber salad is a big thing here in Germany, either with vinegar and oil, or yoghurt / crème fraîche
seasoned with dill, tarragon and chives
Yes and it is brilliant as a light and refreshing side dish on a hot summer day.
True. Gurkensalat is my favourite salad. Only original Greek Zaziki is better! ^^
Ironically for an also sort of lighter salad (compared to the rather heavy potato salad with mayo instead of vinegar) have a pasta salad with salad cream, tangerines, curry and tuna (with the sweet/vinegar base from the cucumber/tomato salad as base so it's not as thick of a cream), works surprisingly well together.
Tarragon? No. That's weird. You forgot mustard, it's essential for cucumber salad.
I use butter milk, it's healthier.
It's really nice to meet up with Ryan every day in his kid's room and chill out watching Germany-related videos that US Americans sometimes have a hard time understanding.
Thank you, I wouldn’t let just anyone in my kids room!
@@ryanwass I'm german and most of the time i also have no clues what that stuff means. But maybe its because i'm too old and expect a "meaning" behind it, while in reality there is none. Or maybe its something only these gen-z guys understand that don't even know the difference between a country and a continent.
@@beldin2987 Not understanding the meaning does not imply that it is meaningless. Just like the covid deniers who do not understand the disease and therefore deny it. 🔥
Moinsen from Germany :)
I think the biggest givaway of the "German" bar/café (which heavily leans on bavarian culture) are the ceiling fans, which are extremely uncommon in Germany xD
Also the big TV and pop music playing all at the same time
also the furnishing doesn't look old enough and it is too bright in there.
Also.. where is the 60+ year old regular that is sitting there 24/7 looking all grumpy and sipping on his beer.
It just lacks that German-Kneipe vibe
Well, it lacks the "Stammtisch" and the "Aschenbecher".
the FCB sticker thou :P
Ryan most of us call it Meckes 😂 tho maccies is certainly a way to say it
Additional information on the bridge demolition: there were houses nearby, so that the bridge had to fall down perfectly. Only 1.5 meters on each side were allowed as „additional landing place“. The houses nearby were also protected by shipping containers, that were filled with water (I think) and they put lots of soil as a „pillow“ on the ground to protect everything around as well.
There was actually even a whole company beneath it that they had to secure and clear out because it was too dangerous with some of the chemicals in there. For anyone interested, the bridge was called "Rahmedetal brücke"
Aah! That bridge was blown up SO close to where I live and it's on my route to my workplace too! Well, it was.
8:30 i love how that guy explains german in english with mandarin subtitles
Also, yes cucumbersalads like that are a thing.
To get a drivings license here in germany is literally quite hard compared to other countrys, especially in the US. Our license is also acknowledged by over 150 countrys worldwide. Funny enough im doing my license right now.
To drink "Klopfer" is very german. 😂 I mean that booze in that German Brauhaus in that tiny bottles. It is very important to put the bottle cap on your nose (!). They are tasting aweful and they guarantee you a headache
Cucumber salad ("Gurkensalat") is quite common in Germany.
There are 2 types of dressings: with cream and dill or with vinegar and oil.
I think the first dressing you named is american dressing and the second is called italian dressing, right?
@@adlerderdunklenfestung5319 I never used either of your dressing names. Joghurt dressing and Öl & Essig (vinegar and oil) are the names here. Itailian herbs aren't really for cucumber salad, sounds like something for tomato salad for me and I think I never heard "American dressing" for a home made salad, only french dressing (which isn't white).
The cucumber salad is a real thing, there are some variations on the dressing, though all I've had up to this day have been delicious.
Statistically, Germany has one of the fewest traffic fatalities in the European Union (World's 12th safest country in %),
although germany is the only country without a speed limit (on parts of the highway). Thanks again for your entertaining video :-)
Cucumber salad definitely is a thing. Its mostly done with cucumber slices, oil/vinegar, dill and other herbs like parsely. Some people sweeten it but I dont like that
Exactly guessed! That sign is a temporary sign they put up when there was a sudden roadblock like an accident or a dangerous jam. You can see the official orange Road-construction-car behind it that carries the sign. They can also display lots of different things if needed
Gurkensalat beste schwöre
Naja
du barbar
Some of the German drivers go to the car as Dr. Jekyll and become Mr. Hyde at the wheel. Then they behave like agressive beasts.
After getting out they are again the nice neighbor from next door.
The road sign is mobile. At the time, the bushes along the roadside were being trimmed.
The ceiling ventilators give away that the beer hall is not in Germany :)
Right. And the whole place looks kind a sterile. The light, the missing details.
Every German or Austrian would recognize immediately that this is not at home.
"Every car enthusiast wants a 911."
Seems to be true. I once saw a whole group of Americans with 911 signs saying they'd never forget.
Dude.... xD
Never heard someone saying 'Maccies'. And I´m German :D
Me neither i only know "Mecces" :D
Der gute alte Gurkensalat
I eat different kinds of cucumber salad several times a month. With oil and vinegar, with different salad dressings or with yogurt, dill, salt and pepper...
So yes I would say cucumber salad is a thing here in Germany.
You will also always get it at fast food restaurants etc..
Salad made from almost every vegetable is a thing :D Besides cucumbers, for example, carrot salad, kohlrabi salad, zucchini salad, tomato salad, raddish salad, coleslaw ...
He found the Elevator Boys (second clip), that's so funny
"Das Pferd frisst keinen Gurkensalat" was the first sentence ever transmitted by phone in 1861. (The horse does not eat cucumber salad.)
"BMW coming out swimming.." **CRUNCH**
you read the sign correctly: cunstruction ahead, right lane ends, merge to the left.
I never once called McDonalds "Maccies" I sometimes call it "Macces".
Oder "Gasthaus zur Goldenen Möwe"
I say McDoof for McDonalds, meaning McStupid.
The "Old German Beerhall" in Milwaukee looks more "typically Bavarian", not "typically German" (Yeah, still differences between Bavaria and the rest of Germany) ;)
One thing I would count for whole Germany: It's much too bright in there. Our bars are more "gemütlich" (cozy, placid, snug) from the light used there. It looks more like a beer tent on Oktoberfest or a turkish living room than a German bar.
Remove the ceiling fans and the tv screens and it might pass as a German beerhall.
Jaja...
As someone who has been on german highways alot (i live in austria) i can tell that we get very annoyed when theres a construction on the road, and also that car crash simulation is a game called beamng drive
They are clapping because nothing of the rubble parts hit the house next to the bridge
The car simulator game is actually from like 2012, but now a lot of tiktokers make videos with it. It looks so new because it’s getting constant updates. The game is called beamng drive
The bridge that was blown up was on a very important north-south highway in Germany. It was not very old, completed only in 1968. But the traffic, also with heavy trucks, has increased extremely. Many bridges that are only 50 years old are dilapidated and have to be blown up. This is a huge problem for the German infrastructure.
Yes and not only for the infrastructure, the people living near these bridges, in this case like me, are affected so badly by all the cars and trucks driving threw the city because of the traffic jams, loud noises, air pollution and damages to the streets
My guy is so integrated, he even gets German HelloFresh codes.
Gurkensalat (Cucumber Salad) is one of the german salads, wich are made like "Add much much mayonese to an ingredient and now it is a salad!". We do this with Noodles and Sausages, too :D
In my Region Schleimscheißer is just negativ word for a kid.
And What he means is called a Schleimer!
10:40 It was the _Rahmedetalbrücke_ in my city of birth... _Lüdenscheid_ It has to been demolished, because it was so heavily damaged, that the *Autobahn* A45 has been closed for more then 1 and a half year. And it is a very important connection between the west of germany with the south-west.
Glad you got another sponser! Congratz
You would feel safe driving with a German, because over here you spend so many hours learning how to drive with a driving instructor (and it's quite the investment...)
The thing they are doing to the small liquor bottles ("Feigling") is tradition and it's why these mini-bottles are called "Klopfer" (translates to "knocker") the rest of that clip ... let's say it's more accurate than most other American things I have seen branded German.
Cucumber salad is a thing, my German grandma just uses a dressing of cream, vinegar dill, (sometimes chives or finely chopped onion) salt and pepper and it is delicious.
7:01 They are drinking "Kleiner Feigling". It's a very popular fig liqueur. And for some reason it's some kind of tradition to knock the bottle on the table a few times before you open and drink it.
cucumber and potato salads are very wide-spread in germany and also the best kinds of salads.
Cucumber salad is a real thing and goes great with potatoes, fried fish and a glass of Riesling white wine.
Ryan, I'm so proud that you pronounced Porsche correctly. GG
Cucumber salat is pretty common here servend to bbq for example the recipe shown is with Crème Fraîche,dill.. I like a oil and vinegar dressing instead
My Grandma actually lives near the bridge and I visit her so I saw the explosion live.
6:32 funfact HB stands for "Hofbräuhaus" the brewery of the (bavarian) king's court and they make amazing food! if you visit munich .. a must visit ("Hofbräuhaus" or "Hofbräukeller" [different location same owner])
The German bar looked like someone had one day to decorate 2 containers kitschy and then hang up a few TVs.
the Beer is "Münchner Hofbräu" and according to the Bierindex it is ranked as Drinkable. The use of the "kleiner Feigling" (fig schnapps) is correct. the TV should be showing FC Bayern but at least, the sticker is there.
The bridge demolition with controlled blast was amazing, until they were told it’s the wrong one
Mixed salad, cucumber salad, tomato salad, we have even carrot salad. Speaking of which, have you ever tried carrot cake?
Of course the bridge explosion in Lüdenscheid was trending on TikTok, of course xD
That bridge has been the bane of the area's existence. Good ridance, let's hope there will be a solution for the infrastructure situation here soon.
My favorite pub even serves a cucumbersalad-cocktail! And it tastes way better than it sounds xD
2:42 It's not only animated, it also yells at you over CB radio channel 9: "Achtung Gefahrenstelle!! - Uwaga strefa niebezpieczna". Nevertheless, these things are the most dangerous place on the construction site. They are always new because they don't get old. On the A2, they hung behind rental trucks because they have fully comprehensive insurance and are cheaper than a Unimog.
Cucumber Salad (Gurkensalat) Is 100% a Thing here in Germany.
The highway bridge demolition in my city was celebrated enthusiastically. For the past year and a half, the entire highway had been redirected through the city center, causing inconvenience and frustration. Now, the hope is that the construction of the new bridge will proceed swiftly, allowing normalcy to return as soon as possible.
Cucumber salad is definitely a thing in Germany! .... although I only know it without any creamy dressing, just cucumber with minced onions and a dressing of vinegar, oil, sugar, pepper and salt.
Obviously many different ways, the sort of cucumbers differs aswell.
NO onions. They never belong in any kind of salad. Yuck!
Cucumber salad can be awesome. My dad makes the best 😅
Cucumber salad is fucking amazing. and yes it is an actual thing here
Yeah you finally get sponsorships, you completely earned it.
Okay, how do you NOT know about the deliciousness of cucumber salad
its eihter "Mekkes" or "Restaurant zur goldenen Möwe" (Restaurant to the golden seagull)
Well, i´ll stay with the old "MekDoof"
I almost burned my kitchen down to ashes along with the entire house by forgetting I had a pot of water on the stove. ^^'
I feel you on this one. ^^
So, at least here in eastern Germany, cucumber salad is THE thing :D I work in a small food company and one of our biggest products is actually cucumber salad :) i don't know anyone here around who doesn't eat it. Everyone has their own recipe, but my grandma makes the best one ;D
congrats to your sponsoring!
my mom would make the cucumber salad with shredded cucumbers so you can spoon your salad ;) i still make it the same way
what they are doing at the bar when they hammering on the table ... thats a drink called "Klopfer" in english knocker. There is a number under the bottle and u have to knock as often as the number is saying.
as an human of the female species -I appreciate it too 😂😂😂❤ - precise work 👏

The original "German" driver is actually english.
The simulation is the Game BeamNG Drive...and yeah its quiet realistic in terms of damage models
Funny, an "Old German Beerhall" in the USA lookes like an american sportsbar in germany. Just without the TVs.
Yes the sign is digital on a trailer or car of the road maintenance department. It says: slow down to 80 because the left lane The left lane is closed and flows into the middle lane. And the other drivers on the other lanes: be cautious and let the other drivers in!
Cucumber salat is awesome. And incredibly easy
The cucumber salad is very much a thing. Often served with lot's of lemon juice mixed in.
I gotta say Hello Fresh portions are tiny, it appears they are portions for kids. Maybe i am not doing them justice but its 2023, we are used to bigger meals.
I have never heard the term "Maccies" for McDonald's.
But we call it McDoof which translates to McStupid.
While cucumber salad is a big thing here, the first thing that comes to my mind when thinking about German salad is the whole potato salad argument(?) it’s so weird to ask for potatosalad in a diferent region of Germany because they differ vastly. It always depends on how far south/ north you are and bothe sides argue that theirs is the real and only one.
The Beer Hall looks pretty legit except the ceiling fan. ceiling fans aren't a thing in germany.
Cucumber Salad is veeeeeery german and common around here and it tastes awesome. It's the best thing for BBQ :D
12:03 the sign is when the road is blocked or something and you have to go on the other road
I never heard someone say „Schleimscheißer“
We just say „Schleimer“ or „Arschkriecher“ 😂
Slimeshitter isn't as random as it sounds. One (derogatory) verb for "brownnosing" in German is "to slime" (the idea is that you're lying so disgustingly, your lies are covering the other person in slime).
We used to say "Don't slip!" if someone was brownnosing too much, because they were sliming so much they'd figuratively leave a trail of slime.
Sure there are bars like that.
definitely cucumber salat is a thing here in Germany :D
No, the headshake when the lanes got shortened from 3 to just 2 was, because he was already on the middle lane and the look to the right and shaking the head for disagreement for the driver still on the far right lane.
In short: They say do that, then do it.
Why would you wait until the lane is gone?
Shakin' my head as well! ;-)
the cucumber salad is a thing. it differs of course from household to houshold. the simplest and easiest way imo is cucumber, crème fraiche, salt and pepper. thats it. fits well to potatos and meat balls (frikadellen).
Cucum😢salad with Dill is a must here in Germany. Very refreshing. a bit of balsamic is also in it in contrast to what the lady was showing we don’t use yoghurt for the dressing. still similar
not true. there are a lot of versions with yoghurt and/or creme fraiche and definitely dill. You may not be familiar with it, but it definitely is a big thing here in Germany.
My favourite word is "Korinthenkacker" (currants pooper) .. If someone is petty or pedantic, then he/she is a Korinthenkacker. 😂 I love cucumber salad, whether it's with vinegar and oil or (my favorite version) with Greek yogurt, some sour cream, fresh dill, pepper and a pinch of garlic powder, salt and lemon juice. I prefer to use organic cucumbers (they are usually not so watery) and do not peel the cucumber, as the peel adds a bitter note that I like. 😊
The cucumber salad or Gurkensalat as it's called is legit
