    Would be great to see a pre-occupation Bajor in one of the series. I imagine they would be all deeply religious, tied into the arts, with few to no one having any kind of militant attitude. Their level of technology would be comparatively low but decent enough that they've known about alien worlds for a long, long, time, just never really had any interest in anyone but the Prophets.

    Bajor is much like India - more advanced earlier, but became primitive later. They had castes, and many gods.
    Cardassians are like what the British Empire did to India - use Indians as slave labor to extract their own resources for Britain.
    The analogy is very accurate.

    • @Nintentheheartless
      @Nintentheheartless 3 года назад +3

      I'd actually say it strikes me more as an analogy to the korean occupation/annexation by japan in the early 20th century. Both lasted about 50 years, both were instituted on the basis of the people they conquered as being "culturally/technologically inferior" and both instituted deeply traumatic oppression on the people they conquered, such as use of the population as slave labor, unethical experimentation and "comfort women". Also like Korea's occupation, there also rose a nationalist/independence movement that used terrorist attacks to oust/discourage their oppressors.

    • @Roofhack
      @Roofhack Год назад

      Imagine having the nerve to say "The Analogy is very accurate." To your own comment LOL.
      Of course the writers took influence from worldly affairs, but whether one more than the other is stupid.
      Was India more advanced before? Pretty sure they had little competitive edge in the grand scheme of things. They had the Moguls ruling over them before Britain, and even they weren't that powerful, yet native India couldn't beat them? When the British easily did? India had been ruled by a successive line of other powers even before the British.
      And BTW, the British did good for India. Far more than the likes of the Moguls.

    That's something which has bugged me for ages. Why didn't the Bajorans destroy the book? I mean it was was about and influenced by the leader of the Pah Wraith. Was there a reason that Sisko had to be the one to do it?

    • @CivilizationEx
      @CivilizationEx  4 года назад +4

      It was an important book for them, even though it was evil, it was still part of their religion, and in theory they might need to be studied at some point in the future. They may also have thought they didn't have the right to destroy something written by/from the gods. Sisko, on the other hand, was the Emissary, he spoke for the Prophets and so could pretty much do whatever he wanted.

    Five hundred thousand, thirty thousand under guidance. Compared to other civilizations Bajorians are sloooow, as others had vast interstellar empires, developed reality altering technologies, or evolved beyond corporal bodies/the third dimension.Obviously the Cardassians are not right in their actions but one could find such a comparatively ancient civilization...disappointing.

      Well, if you constantly get protected by your space daddy prophets, there is no need for you to advance. Another reason why I like the Cardassians more. (Of course I also don't think that they are right in what they do, but they at least worked for their progress themselves without getting their hands held by some extremely powerful alien prophets for no apparent reason.)

    Something occurred today me. The Prophets of the Bajorans are a lot like polytheistic gods...while the Q are more like monotheistic ones...
    They also seem like naive versions of the Q. All the power, none of the understanding or knowledge. Almost like they're proto versions of Q...like an earlier stage of their evolution???
    Also, it would explain the Qs obsession with humanity and the enterprise, in particular, as their emissaries arrival at DS9 hinged entirely on the events of the battle of Wolf-359...which happened because the federation was introduced to the Borg by...who else but Q???
    Just a crazy thought...I'm sure. If nothing else their non linear existence hurts this theory...although that same fact works against them not already understanding everything explained to them about linear existence when they first appeared in the show...

    I always imagined that if we had explored Bajoran civilization in one of the prequel series that they would have been more akin to religious fanatics, and more intolerant in some way on a divine quest of manifest destiny, maybe even this arrogance might have antagonized the Cardassians to try to conquer Bajor.

      Yes, deeply religious folks, artsy/fartsy types all over. I believe the Cardies were similar in nature before the central command took over what was then a starving and disastrous planet and that may have reminded them of they used to be watching over the Bajorans so wanted to "help" them, at least early on in the occupation.

    • @wasserruebenvergilbungsvirus
      @wasserruebenvergilbungsvirus 5 лет назад +2

      I agree, the Cardassians are more interesting and also more realistic. The Bajorans are just "uwu we are so pure and our space daddy prophets protect us for no reason :3" and basically a race that never does anything wrong (even the xenophobic movement was secretly created by the eeeevil Cardassians and not the Bajorans themselves, despite the fact that it would make totally sense for there to be widespread xenophobia after literally having been colonised by aliens for so long). I absolutely hate this fantasy and sci-fi trope of ~~pure~~ races that never do any bad things and always just get screwed over by "evil" races. The Bajorans didn't even really advance on their own like the Humans or the Vulcans did, they have just always been ~~pure~~ and spiritual and protected by their space daddys.
      The Cardassians are more sympathetic, even though they are pretty much fascist they at least are not a Mary Sue race that is constantly shown as too good and righteous for this world...
