Arthur Grossman is a very fine bassoonist. He would have to be as old as Garfield or older. Many hardly use diaphragmatic expressive vibrato anymore..speeding it up and slowing it down to enhance particular notes, range or phrases. The rich full tone with different timbres for different notes was how I was taught by Artemus Edwards, also one of Sol Shoenbach's students. My lessons started in Fall of 1965 as I started seventh grade and with Artemus in 1968. I met Mr. Shoenbach at Settlement Music School when I gave a Handwhistling Lecture Demonstration to the Board of Directors there.
I got to solo this at my graduation, wish I did this good
Inspriring performance. Thank you!
Great recording! 1985? I'm impressed.
