Such exquisite elegance and timeless beauty from the beloved Richard Strauss! The clarinetist is extraordinary, such fine playing Richard Strauss’ two concerti for oboe and for horn (his father’s instrument) are fascinating masterpieces to be listened to alongside this a « concertino » as part of a group of compositions for the four wind instruments. Did he compose a piece for the flute one wonders? Strauss’ oboe is amongst my favorite compositions. Such pioneering work and innovation by a composer steeped in the « classical » German repertoire, Mozart especially amongst all members of the Pantheon. Impossible to tire of listening to these jewels of such startling composition, full of tenderness and lyrical beauty beyond words. Such originality and playful « neoclassical » (?) inventivity and the lyrical qualities reminiscent of opera and lieder, fill me with nostalgia and longing for a « lost » era of culture and civilization almost. Impossible not to forget the backdrop of two world conflicts during which the known world went mad and fell apart, something which his « Metamorphosen » encapsulates for all time. Eternal gratitude and blessings upon the humble and illustrious craftsman Richard Strauss!
The Clarinet is German sound and German system, only the string to attach the reed is missing!

Bravo to both Thorsten Johanns and Ole Kristian Dahl, was a privilege to hear you perform this with Stavanger Symphony as well! 06:48 is truly fantastic!
Electricity is in the air in this wonderful performance!!! Beautiful performance of both clarinetist and bassoonist, together with the wonderful WDR with Maestro Ettinger (Israeli Pride)!!! Bravo, fellow bassoonist, Ole Kristian Dahl ! Magnificent Playing!!!!!
This is a total PEACH of a performance. An elusive piece brought vividly and joyfully to life. Beauty and the Beast told in a way words could never quite do. The soloists are so, so good, the orchestra too, and the conductor and all concerned draw us through the piece with complete conviction. For the first time I realize that this is a wonderful work by a seasoned old master and not, as he would have put it, a mere 'wrist exercise'. Thank you so much for the pleasure this brings.
To compare this glorious clarinet sound to the great Harold Wright in this same wonderful piece is to understand how far the playing of this instrument has progressed.
@@bm4114 No, last time I called a manager was at the movies, and I thought the projector was out of focus, but later discovered it was time for my first glasses.
Judorange1980 I think it’s fine, i don’t think it’s excessive. I prefer, and a lot of other people prefer, for them to move it’s their way of feeling the music. It’s better then them standing still. Have a great day:)

Absolutely masterwork from the latest Strauss period superbly played here by both soloist and the orchestra.
Bassoon and clarinet sound very good together as instruments. Very good performance.

He a daddy snacc …

Strauss in his 80's created some wonderful music, like this too seldom heard gem. A beautiful performance.
Wow quel clarinettiste !!! L'un des meilleurs que j'ai jamais eu à écouter, la grande classe !
What a pity nobody is praising this wonderfully enlightened late work of Master Richard Strauss!
Wow! Some really fine playing here from both soloists (as well as great ensemble playing from the strings). An absolute delight.

A joy to watch and listen to each time
masterpiece all the musical instruments are close together and in harmony.
Perfect performance. 👌🏻🎉
Gran Ensamble y musicalidad ,felicitaciones!
I adore Strauss, and somehow I managed to make it out of music school never having heard of this work.

Benny Goodman called his instrument his Liquorice Stick. What do you call your beautiful bassoon? An RPG launcher? Beautiful performance!!!
Tom C. :-)
Leanne Cameron I call mine a potato shooter and rpg lol
It is really a farting bedpost.
Solistas brilhantes!

It's the difference between a German clarinet and a French clarinet.
@@heinvanmaarschalkerwaart9799 No, it really is not.
B R A V O ! ! !
That's some very emotional clarinet playing there
Nice playng++++++++++
Отлично!
Bravo Kristian belíssimo 🎶🎶🎶🎶
うわー、納得
The audience looks like the audience clips from the "Monty Python's Flying Circus" shows! :D
what kind of clarinet is he playing? is it just a standard b flat?
It's an Oehler system instrument played by most German clarinetists. Würlitzer makes very good ones.
Yes its a Bb Strauss scored it for,
Thorsten Johanns played a Leitner & Kraus B-flat German clarinet on this recording. His barrel is a special zoom-barrel by Paulus & Schuler.
What mouthpiece and reed he uses?
Wait did the bassoonist accidentally play a note at 2:15??
He was just making sure that his reed wasn't drying out before his entrance.
the two solists should be in love, these two are not and will never be
Too much moving! Sounds good if I close my eyes
Should we call a manger for you?

Glenn Moonpatrol no one is talking you. Good story though.
They both move way too much. With the bassoon this looks especially clunky.

Judorange1980 listen with your ears
Close your eyes.
They don't move too much at all, and if so only by the music. Fantastic solist and performance! Top of the roof! 🎉
