Hey Rob. Nice video. That 5 to 6 inch slack can be taken in if the strap/winch is under the boat weight load. So, retrieve the boat out of the water at the longest distance possible. In other words, don't back your trailer to far into the water and then retrieve your boat. Keep most of the trailer out of the water then retrieve it. After that 1st time it should be stretched out because of the boat load. Hope this helps.
Great video. Exactly the problem I was facing, all I could think of doing was cutting my new strap, and you showed me I was correct. Great tip on wetting strap too. Nice job!
There is a smaller hole closer to the center that you put a bolt through and it also goes through the strap loop so you don't need to cut it. Mine was threaded through those holes too, but watched videos to see there is a hole for a bolt. I would also put a sleeve over the bolt in the center so the sharp threads don't spread the new strap. Don't forget to use marine grease on your gears too. Great video
My winch spool is the same type. I was unsure about the installation of the strap as it used to have a cable. I purchased a strap with a tail. Thanks for the demonstration.
Exactly the info I needed! I've used the ones with a bolt before, but I didn't know how to use the 4 holes on the old one I'm about to install on my utility trailer. Thanks!
Your'e definitely not supposed to cut your winch strap... it is designed to have a bolt put through the loop in the strap and winch spool. Buy a hardened steel bolt and nut and do it the proper way.
