Do you hear a howling or squealing coming from your 2.0T Audi or Volkswagen engine? It might sound like a squealing belt that is constant and won't go away. You may also see multiple misfire codes even though your coil packs and spark plugs were just replaced! The bad PCV can cause multiple engine codes, multiple misfires and the squealing noise. In this video I go over the quick and easy way to diagnose a failed PCV valve by removing the oil cap with the car running to see how much suction is present in the crank case. If the cap is difficult to move with a strong suction noise, it is time to replace the PCV. The factory VW/Audi part number is 06F129101P.
Upon replacing the PCV for this #2.0T FSI TFSI engine, 5 of the engine codes cleared on their own without the need to erase them via the OBDII port with a diagnostic scan tool. The engine sounds much healthier and the car is running much better with more power than before. It is amazing what a small $49 part can do to cause issues with these motors. #A4Avant #AudiA4

0:35 irregular idle when you remove the cap or an oil dipstick is a sign of a WORKING PCV valve. If you remove the cap and the engine work doesnt change, it means that the valve issint working and needs to be replaced.

I hate those PCV valves. In 4 years I will be replacing it for the 4th time. And I don't know if its coincidence or not, but they are failing just after I do something with the engine. At first it failed on the long journey. I replaced it wit OEM VAG one and it went fine. After like 6 months I replaced timing belt with tensioner and after startup I noticed rough Idle/misfire. I spent a whole day searching what did I wrong with timing belt replacement, but did not find anything. Then I took the car on the road and noticed idle jumping from 900 to 2000rpm, then I knew that PCV valve gone again as it was the same symptom I had earlier. I decided no to buy OEM, but bought Vaico PCV. Then after 1 year I decided to install Ramair induction kit. After installing it, I start the car aaaand rough idle... After 1 year, just now I replaced cam timing chain and tensioner. And guess what... Rough idle again. The engine ran completely fine before the works. I didn't put hand on it, just disconnected the plastic hose from it. Thinking about installing oil catch can and get rid of that shit... My engine EA113 2.0 147kw

I replaced my pcv yesterday, and when I pull out a dipstick engine starts shaking and idling rough. Is that normal or the pcv I bought is bad? It's A3 2.0 TFSI 2006

Yes that is normal. They all do it

truth in failure. these designs are overly complicated and made to fail at 50k miles . i just keep the OBD scanner in my car all the time so I can scan it monthly because every month the light comes on.

oh yes. well apparently the cars are sold at break-even or a small loss. the profits are made entirely at the service department.

Why not just replace the diaphragm? Much cheaper and widely available.

I don’t believe so... the lines can be brittle too. If you have time and can find just the diaphragm then yes maybe worth a shot. Do you have a part number for it?

@@BIMMERZEITT I haven't done this, yet. Don't have an oem #, but aftermarket is Dorman 917-064.

Now that I have done it:
Pros: easy to snap off and on. Available at the 'zone for $31+tax a mile from my house.
Cons: Not OEM. Doesn't replace anything else on a part old enough to have failed somewhere.
By the looks omy old diaphragm, it wasn't original. In fact, I can't even see where it failed. So I'll trust the rest unit to last a reasonable time for my A4 with 133k.

Its not just the diagram that goes. There a non return valve in there as well that fails.

@@bridgeandtunneled That's a very good point. Just because full disclosure is most helpful, I'll briefly explain my situation. I replaced the diaphragm, but with 45 minutes of driving got another CEL which turned out to be a lean code. At that point I replaced the whole oil separator/breather unit. Still got the lean code. Since it wasn't missing or otherwise making me thing it was a fuel problem at one cylinder, it must have been a vacuum leak somewhere. When I couldn't track it down, I fear the rear main seal was the culprit. That turned out to be the problem. The lesson here is that if you have a PCV problem, replace it ASAP. A poorly working PCV will put stress on the rear main seal.

I'm afraid the genuine VW/Audi PCV Valve is no longer $49. Since we have to support Zalenskyy's bank account in Ukraine the price for such part (and everything else) is around $85-$90! Should of bought it 3 years ago when I had the good chance.
