    I really enjoyed this video. The step by step troubleshooting is really nice. I would really love to see more main boards being troubleshooted like this one. I just had this symptom the other day but couldn't get repair approval on it.

    Thank you, Norcal715, you ROCK. Thanks to this video, my Tosh 46L5200 was good as new in less than a week, died exactly like yours. SJimmy was out of stock, but to my delight Ebay had new led strips and BAM! Football is back!!

    There is a easier trick for know if you have a led strips problem:When you start a tv and you see the logo and after tv shutdown or backlight shutdown.Or if in a dark room you see a really fast flash in the screen(but you dont have time to see the logo).These 2 cases are almost all the time (98%) a led strips problem.Dont broke your head with taking measure :)But this video is really well done for explain how it s worked.Thanks to you for do it :)

    I was looking at a Samsung florescent backlight lcd and took the lcd screen out and the diffusers. On the samsung the metal frame that holds the lcd down is screwed on. Well I put everything back together using a small 4volt drill screwdriver and 20 minutes later while the tv was sitting there I heard a "crack" I looked and the one corner of the lcd got messed up. I assumed that I must have put to much pressure on the lcd when I put the bracket back on. Have you ever encountered the same problem?

    Hey Jimmy I have a Toshiba 52hl167. I'm experiencing the top half of the screen way dimmer than the bottom half. I assume this is the backlight inverter, however when I openned the back of the TV, I have 4 boards; two on each side of the screen. How do I know which side controls the top half of the screen and do I have to replace all the boards? Thanks!

    Pulled a 60" Westinghouse (VR6025Z) from the county dump (I grab all tv's that have intact displays) Get it home, power it up, I get a "W" logo for about 1.5 seconds, then dark. flashlight shows me display still on, so my first thought was same, which I dreaded (have broken a display or two trying to remove) took back off and went to check inverter input voltages 1st. this 60" monolith had huge inverters, a Master, and 3 slaves. thats when I noticed a 14 pin jumper connecting slave 2 and slave 3 was burnt to a crisp, insulation on a couple of lead wires gone, in fact one wire was burnt so bad it was gone. Ok, maybe it's not an LED issue then... lolz
    I had 24 volts going into these, so PS was good. I ESR'd the inverter board caps, all good, mosfets were good, all transformers rang good...drove me crazy, so I slept on it (I find it's good to ponder)It hit me next morning like a brick...Bad grounds, just like the Samsungs (common problem w/ those)
    Even remember saying to meself when un-screwing the inverters off that these mount screws were loose as hell. I found another 14 pin jumper from my box O leads,cables and wires. then replaced these cheap screws with a better type that "bites" better.
    Ta-Da, display stayed on!! I checked all screws on all boards, and yes every damn one of them were looser than a 2$ Ho ;)
    the heating/cooling cycles over time had loosened them. I replaced all the screws and have a 60" in the living room now. I got 7$ invested in this thing (new ebay remote) and a few hours labor...not too shabby ;)

    Hello sir, can you help me with my LG tv. The problem was, the set can be switch on and off, no picture but audio is good, the backlight lights up. I changed the main board but the problem still persists. I suspected maybe the problem is the circuit connected directly to the panel. Is it normal that the voltage of the leds reads 92v and drops a bit in 86v steady?

    I have the exact same model. It does work for a while, then has the problem after a few minutes. Once it has the problem it happens quicker after you power cycle it. Possibly heat related LED problem? I measure 21.7v on all four back lights without video input. It seems to ramp up from 0, to 6, to 15, then to 21.7v. With PC video input it drops to 15.2v. All voltages are probably dependent on my back light level. When it goes out I see them all spike to 27v then to 0v. Vout measures 102v while normal, and 11v after it goes out. This TV just started doing this. Seven years use ain't bad compared to most other folks with just 2 years use after they bought it brand new. EDIT: I verified 3 back light lines all spike up to 28v, and only one does not when it happens. I swapped two pins and the non-spiking wire moved to the adjacent pad. So I suppose mine is not a driver board problem too.

    Why does 1 led shorted bring up the voltage and cause the tv to shut off? Did you have anything else that led you there? Most other tv repairs seem to end up a capacitor! You get the tough ones!!!!!
    Thanks for the video

    • @thomastommy9864

      Ya, how annoying. Why can't these TVs be like the LED stop lights, where a huge cluster can die but yet the light keeps working. I swear it's planned obsolescence. The jig is up on bad capacitors, now they just switched to bad LEDs.

    I have the same tv, but mine works for about an hour and then the backlight goes out. So I know it’s not an led that went bad. I’ve heard of similar models having an IC overheating. If it overheats, would replacing the heat sink work or would a thermal pad fix it, or do I need to replace the IC?
    Update: I checked the voltages on the power board and led driver board. Power board looked good. Driver board was consistent, but each of the 4 contacts was at 22.3V.

Replaced driver, same problem still. Any other suggestions? Would the LED strips be ok if those voltages are all about the same?

      It's just a bad design, either saving a few cents on manufacturing, or designed to fail from day one. They should have made these TVs to withstand multiple LED failures, like LED street lights. You'd be able to get many more years of life limping on 1 to 10 failures. But they'd rather you buy new hardware just because of a failed 50 cent part.

    • @coppelltvrepair
      @coppelltvrepair 8 лет назад

      +Abderrazak Harakat Of course it would, provided the load has raised high enough to the protection kick-in level. Most LED drivers are current drivers and have built-in protections for over-current and over-voltage. A diode shorting is actually a perfect failure since current driver is able to adjust to the lower resistance/high current by dropping out output voltage and thus lowering current again. But it can regulate/drop its output voltage only so much. When too much or too little current is required it just doesn't work.

    • @peshmadscientist1833
      @peshmadscientist1833 7 лет назад

      +Coppell TV Repair LLC thank you for that. most TVs don't mind an led or two self.bypassing and the set just adjusts voltage accordingly.some brands just refuse to work with LEDs bypassed. this, I consider a design flaw, considering the work involved in getting access to the LEDs.
