Just a hint from another traveler with a similar stove. If you wrap tinfoil around the flame and bottom of the pot, it cooks a lot faster. Also super light and saves on gas!

Pct hiker here. I started to not put my bag in a stuff sack. I would put my other stuff in and than mash my bag around it. I also did not eat first thing in the morning. Just added via to my water sometime after a few miles and ate vars instead of making breakfast. I was always the first person on the trail because I'm I enjoyed watching the sunrise. So a lot of these time saving were for additional sleep. As you know hike your own hike, and 😉

Skipping breakfast, ahh, when I was a mover this was a common theme when the summer season was in full swing. Get home from work after 10 hour move, eat, pass out, sleep in untill I could JUST get to work on time, smash a monster and a chicken biscuit, work untill I was shaking and then maybe grab a sub from Publix. Rinse and repeat.
Lost a good 10 pounds behaving this way.
Moral of the story, not generally a good idea to skip meals.

When I was they hiking the mst, I used a synthetic bag. That way, unless I was soaking wet, I could just climb into my bag I’m at night after just taking off my shoes and socks. It made it faster to get going in the morning. I also noticed I moved pretty slowly in the morning, so I had my pack packed that night. I left out my breakfast and toothbrush. My pack had an exterior pocket that I shoved my fuel, stove, pot/spoon, and Hygene kit into. I did not pack my tent and sleeping bag separately. I kept my sleeping bag inside the tent, shoved it into a WP stuff sack, and attacked it to the top of my 38L pack.
Not a morning person, so everything I could do to make my morning routine simpler, I did.

What do I do differently? Iron. I have iron. Not only good for self defense and hunting should the need arise, but its great for emergency signalling. Your hiking through my back yard. I love it out there. You get to see all the fine features of this living tapestry. I get to see the details of all the dead and broken. Stuff happens. Be prepared to deal with it.

Get up at 5 Drink 4 cups of water while packing up and breaking camp. Put wet tent in a dry bag. Take care of personal needs leave at 5:45. Have snack on the trail. Have lunch, coffee and dry your gear at 12 or 1:00 and take an hour break. Have Supper and set up camp at 5:30-6:30 pm. Goal is 10-11 hours each day. When you take too long to get on the trail in the morning you never makeup that time or miles and start to feel like your are falling behind schedule. The faster and farther you travel will decrease the amount of food you need to carry. I personally carry a 9x9 tarp and hammock. For mild weather I use a foil foam truck windshield sun reflector under me and a 2 lb sleeping bag. I carry a 6 oz SOL Mylar heat sheet, which is quiet, strong, and cheap safety pinned inside the bag if temps drop to low in the mountains. Putting clear packaging tape on the SOL Mylar sheet before pinning is also recommended. Advantages. I don’t need a flat spot to pitch, and can sit and get my legs up and cook and dress standing up under the tarp.

You could use the internet to find like minded folks, like posting in a Facebook group or other public forum focused on hiking in a certain area. If you are able to do a paid experience, I know there are companies that send groups out with guides. There’s even companies that serve specific populations like older hikers, women, people with different mobility levels, etc!

Has anyone else noticed the flavor profile of RUclips hikers is very strongly tilted in the direction of I?
Every channel on here that makes "hiking" content is so solely focused on "my journey". Completely consumed by the cult of ME.
What a breath of fresh air it would be for once if I could type in "Appalachian trail" into the RUclips search bar and NOT be presented with another millennials JOURNEY! Though I have to say it really is groundbreaking stuff to learn how someone I don't know and will never meet, suffered for a little while but it's ok because the made some friends and "GREW" as a "PERSON".
Minging, whining, moaning, groaning, griping, paining, crying. Life is lonely, boring and mediocre.
I know, I'll buy a CAR then strap it to my back and I'll WALK
Then a few miles later they see some sights, walk some miles and feel some feelings. Now comes the acoustic guitar, the calming tenor of a nu-male voice softly singing tones but not words, and the camera flares as the see another BEAUTIFUL mountain vista.
    *Huff
Gosh you just can't beat that view!
    Now
It's all better, the music picks up, the trendy beat gets louder, we'll show you shots of us and all our new friends drinking expensive craft beers, and accomplishing an amazing mountain!
What happened after the camera shut off?
Of course you haven't done anything. You go back home just to live in past. You think, I'll post video. I'll BECOME someone I'll become the hiker.
But still it's only a lie, you never became the hiker, you never stopped being you. Exhausted you sleep, it was all a wish.

    • @BeerinBeautifulPlaces
      @BeerinBeautifulPlaces  6 месяцев назад +3

Sounds like you have a lot of frustration pent up. Maybe there’s a better way to release that then a comment section?
My friend, you see a lot of hikers talking about their experience because it makes more sense to document your own journey than trying to keep up with someone else. Tired of the same things happening to every hiker? Could it be people attempting the same challenge often have similar experiences?
If you’re looking for videos without people, try typing in “silent hiking” with whatever you’re searching.
      I hope you find peace
