  • Hey everyone. Before I begin, be warned to I am not responsible for any damages that may occur during your bearing cleaning and the chemicals you will be using can cause skin irritation so please ask an adult or be aware of the risks involved.
    So i made this video showing a close up look at bearing cleaning. I know there are several videos on RUclips that has tutorials about it. Generally you will rarely have to clean your bearing as...
    1) it's easier to buy a new one as they are relatively inexpensive (besides ceramic bearings)
    2) cleaning it is easy but it's also pretty easy to mess something up making your yoyo perform worse
    3) some shielded bearings can make this even more difficult but if you want to take your chance, check out this video on how to remove the shields of a bearing. • BEARINGS!!! - TUTORIAL...
    Some tell signs of a bearing needing a cleaning is that the string tends to want to grab onto the silicon pads. I know string torsion can also do this, but a dirty bearing will be consistent at turning your unresponsive bearing into a responsive one. The sound will also be different as it can get noisier, some bearings are noisy already but a dirty one will be noisier.
    A damaged would have a different noise as well as different performance changes, when I encounter one I'll make a video of it. (I already encountered one a few years ago but didn't record the process of repairing it)
    First make sure you have all the tools needed:
    -Cleaning solution (Mineral spirits, lighter fluid, industrial acetone [not ones from the comestic or health and beauty ones, they"may" contain other ingredients]) **DO NOT USE ALCOHOL** Because of the amount of water it can potentially make your bearing rust
    -Small container (old pill container, small glass bowl [you're working with chemicals by the way], a small cup, you can also use disposable plastic cups but do NOT reuse the cup after you use it to clean your bearing, even after you wash it)
    -Bearing removal tool (Optional but recommended)
    -Body of a pen (Optional or you can use something that allows you easier handling of the bearing)
    Instructions:
    -Disassemble the yoyo and remove the bearing
    -Pour solution into container and put your bearing in there as well
    -Shake it around, spin it to agitate the bearing in the solution
    -Use a clean paper towel to dry your bearing
    -Set to dry or use another clean paper towel
    -Install and you're done. You can apply thin lube or whatever lube you like but I usually do that when the bearing plays well but is noisy or if I wanted a little response. Lube will also protect the life of the bearing

    Hello! I was wondering how to dispose of the lighter fluid after using. I would really appreciate an answer. Thanks!

    • @YAPYOYO
      @YAPYOYO  Год назад

      All the solvents that will be used to clean your bearing evaporates very quickly, so you can leave the bottle open in a well ventilated place and it will evaporate into nothing. You can then rinse out the container with some light soap, water and then set it to dry for future use. 🙂

    Magic K2 a very responsive yoyo which is fine for me but have question, can a responsive bearing become unresposive after play so long or it just need require that lube?

    • @YAPYOYO
      @YAPYOYO  7 месяцев назад

      It actually depends. Magic yoyo responsive bearings are narrow and also lubed which makes them responsive. After you play with it for a while it will become semi-responsive if you use thin string. To turn an responsive bearing to unresponsive will require a cleaning, but keep in mind that since most (not all) responsive bearings are narrow makes the string catch on the responsive pads a lot easier. There are responsive flat bearings that are just as wide as size C bearings, when cleaned will act as an unresponsive bearings. I hope this helps. 🙂

    How long should I keep the bearing in the fluid?

    • @YAPYOYO
      @YAPYOYO  8 дней назад

      @@xanax6741 I usually only leave it in there for 10-15 seconds, then I'll start shaking the bottle and use the plastic body of a pen and try to rotate the bearing while it's in the liquid. The whole cleaning process takes less than 5 minutes.

    After i followed the steps my bearing is now quieter but it spins for only 2-3 secs, thankfully it didn't affect the performance of the yoyo...

      @YAPYOYO  Год назад

      I'm sorry to hear that. What did you use to clean your bearing? Did you give it some time to dry? I won't install the bearing into the yoyo right away, I usually leave it to dry and spin it in my hand or with a pen/pencil to help it dry.
      Sometimes you may have to clean it more than once. I had to clean that bearing twice for mine to perform better.

    You could do a little tug, and if its winding alot that means it's time to clean bearing

    • @YAPYOYO

      Well not always. In this video the bearing did need a cleaning to fix the way it plays. Sometimes there are other problems that can cause the yoyo to come back w with a tug.

    My yoyo become a responsive if it spin to fast sometimes and i think it's not because the bearing or the pads but one of my bearing seat is loosen. Do you have a solution for this one ?

    • @YAPYOYO
      @YAPYOYO  Год назад

      Hmm... Usually if the bearing seat or cage (what holds the balls together inside) is loosened, to tight, or scraping against the internal rings may mean that the bearing is faulty. Unfortunately I've only repaired one in the past, but it's best to contact your manufacturer of the yoyo or website you bought the yoyo from to hopefully give you a replacement bearing. I hope this helps because trying to fix a bearing can get very complicated.

    Hello @YAPYOYO can you please give me advice?? I asked Dylan Kowalski here on youtube but he ain't anwsering me . the question is ( So Dylan had video about cleaning bearings and he is making his own lube from cleaning solvent as mineral spirits or litherfluid and adds 3 in 1 oil , and i was wondering if i can keep new bearings in just ligher fluid in a jar ? will it prevent rust cauise im going to buy alot of bearings and i wont be using alot of them you know and they might go bad , Dylan said it only benefits from being in there but he has it in the combination of those 2 ingreedients but im only asking about the ligher fluid will it help or ruin the bearing if it stays in ???

      So I honestly wouldn't recommend letting any kind of metal things sitting inside a liquid that is meant for cleaning. Even if the fluid is petroleum based, anything that's meant for cleaning usually tells me that it reacts with something. In my opinion, the cheap and easy way of storing bearing is to just put then on a Ziploc or bag that you can seal, even tying a knot of a plastic bag will work. Then store the bag somewhere that moisture doesn't accumulate, like a dresser with your clothes or a closet away from sunlight.
      If you wear clothes that's dry when you pull it out from wherever, chances are the bearings you have stashed away will be just as dry. I have always stored my bearings in a simple box along with a lot of my other yoyos in the closet.
      I hope this helps.

      @@YAPYOYO Alright thanks alot for the advice. So if i store them in zipbag inside of yoyo case it's gonna be okay right? ( Btw in my country there's only 2 types of yoyo lubes for sale , yyf dark matter and yyf preformance lube long spin , which one would u recomend ?

    • @YAPYOYO
      @YAPYOYO  11 месяцев назад

      @@Zenos_666 yes, a Ziploc bag inside a yoyo case should be fine to store your bearings. If you watch my long yoyo video collection, I do show that I converted a laptop case into a yoyo bag and store my strings and bearings into little Ziploc bags and tucked inside one of the little pockets on the bag.
      As far as bearing lube, I personally use firearm oil. I read somewhere that it's "suppose" to be a good substitute because it only cost me $5 for a pretty large bottle and have been using it for over 5 years with no issues and it still has 99% of the bottle left. If you're unable to get that, I would research any low viscosity oil (which is what firearm oil is known for, keeps things protected from elements while keeping low friction). I only use a pin head amount, because anything more will make my unresponsive yoyos play responsive. Keep in mind that these are what I use for my yoyos and results may very. I hope that helps. 🙂

      So on this comment i noticed you said you store strings in ziploc bags does that make a difference loose or ziploc'd for strings? Just curious as i usually leave some loose in my pocket for changing on the fly and the rest in the original packaging Kitty String boxes and the zip bags the newer first class strings come in. @@YAPYOYO

      To clean the bearing you shouldn't use oil. If you don't have any materials to clean the bearing, the only other material you can use is Acetone (arts and crafts, not the nail polish remover). If you don't have lighter fluid, you can try charcoal lighter fluid that is used for BBQ. I hope this helps. 🙂

And also to make lube she said to mix vaseline and olive oil as the 3 in 1 oil and mineral spirits is not available in my country.can you tell me how to make a lube with 3 in 1 oil and mineral spirits?! @@MaroofZia-dr5kg unfortunately I do not know what the paper method involves since the video I uploaded is the way I clean my bearings. The other alternative (although not highly suggested) you can use a high percentage alcohol 90% or more. I'm sorry that I don't know other methods of cleaning after from this.
      The lube you mentioned will actually make your bearing perform more responsive because the oils used are pretty thick. I use firearm oil which you'll need an adult to purchase or you can use reel oil that is used for fishing. That oil is thinner and you only need a pin "tip" amount. Not a drop because that's too much, only the tip of a pin and touch various parts inside the bearing to lubricate.
