The greatest of all time! No one holds a candle to him. This is from Austin City Limits in 1989. He was been clean and sober since Oct 1986. Yes, this is a cover of Jimi Hendrix, Stevie's idol.
Jimi Hendrix did the original recording of this cut. You will no doubt hear arguments about which was best. Personally, I feel that SRV is the absolute GOAT! That being said, I also don't believe there will ever be a more influential guitarist than Jimi. Every other guitarist after him, including his contemporaries, was influenced by him. Even if they never heard of him, they were influenced by someone who was influenced by him. But NOBODY touches what Stevie did with that.
Stevie got this guitar used, but he considered it his No. 1. His brother Jimmy now has it, and it's worth over a million dollars. At the time this was recorded, Stevie had been playing for 28 years. This recording was only a year before he died so tragically.
Stevie bought the guitar used from Ray Hennig's in Austin, TX. He traded a '63 Strat for it. Ray said the guy was pretty beat up when he got it, it supposedly belonged to Christopher Cross.
Love the SRV reaction! Some tips: -the DJ sound was him muting the strings -the next part was the Wah pedal (sounds like wah wah wah) The “top part” of the guitar is called a fret board and what he was doing was called “tapping” And this is a cover of Jimi Hendrix Please react to “Hook” by blues traveler live 1997 and either have the lyrics up or read them before. Amazing song and AMAZING harmonica.
STEVEY RAY VAUGHN plays with number 8 strings the biggest strings available and no one could compare as they are so big and so stiff this man has a special gift..
You're referring to when he used the wah-wah distortion pedals at his feet. Fun fact: he went to Jimi Hendrix' father in person and asked for permission to cover Jimi's songs, and Jimi's dad gave him his blessing, and these wah-wah pedals that used to be Jimi's. What an honour! Jimi was one of Stevie's greatest idols and influences. ❤
I really hope you take that enthusiasm and start to learn guitar🎸. I think you would really enjoy it. Stevie picked up the guitar at age 7 and never put it down. Learned to play by listening to records by all the great blues players and found that if he could make the sound with his mouth, he could find it on the guitar. Didn't bother to read music as he was the music. For a completely different skill set and sound please react to Riveria Paradise from this same venue (Austin City Limits 1989). It is a creation by Stevie done after his own rehab and recovery and he dedicates it to all those out there still suffering in any way. It is a soothing musical balm for your soul and is my favorite song💯🎸💙‼️🎶🎸🎶
Guitar players use 'guitar pedals' which are little metal boxes that they can control the sound with their feet. Sometimes its a wah-wah sound or maybe its just more volume to push the tube in his amp into overdrive making it squeal..... and the guitar knobs can control volume and tone ..so pressing on his 'stomp box' changed the sound or volume so he adjusted it with his hand knobs to what he got, which is , of course genius level playing.
Thanks, Shon - this is SRV's tribute to Jimi Hendrix... gotta say, I kind of think Stevie took it to the next level... no disrespect to Jimi...but damn... check out Jimi's original and see what you think... (p.s. at the end, that's called a whammy bar... that's used to distort the sound)
The story I've heard is that Stevie went Jimi Hendrix's dad to ask permission to play this song(as it was originally recorded by Hendrix). Hendrix's dad was impressed that Stevie asked for permission and he gave Stevie the wah-eah peddles that Hendrix used to use. Hendrix was SRVs idol.
Flat Picks VS. Fingerstyle just creates a different sound. Fingerstyle generally creates a softer sound. The pick creates a more distinctive, read hard, sound.
This is a cover of a Jimi Hendrix classic .. #Voodoo Chile from 1969 I think the year was. SRV does a few other Hendrix songs .. #Little Wing .. #Manic Depression .. #Third Stone From the Sun. That "Waawaawaa" sound ya dig so much is from a 'waawaa' pedal. A guitar accessory. There's a story that Stevie Ray idolized and respected Hendrix so much that he got in touch with Jimi's father and asked him for his permission to record his son's music. Not only did Stevie get the 'green light' to cover Jimi's music, but one of his first 'waawaa' pedals he had, belonged to Jimi Hendrix which his father had given to SRVaughan.
I don't know if anyone posted it already but He really loved Jimmy Hendrix music it was a big influence on him and before he preformed this live he went to Jimmy's father to ask for permission to do so and Jimmy's father like him for that so much he gave him Jimmy's wawa pedal to use and keep, i think that shows so much class on both there parts 👍
Breh! You should scope out one of my all-time favorite artists that is a guitarist. Tosin Abasi "Apollo Black ( Kaizen demo )", or "Gordian Naught". the man is pretty much self-taught and AMAZING!!!
Vaughan is the best guitarist who ever lived, imo. All respect to the other greats like Clapton, Hendrix, and May, but Stevie Ray is just in his own tier.
He used a wah-wah peddle for the, well...the wah-wah sound. And guitar notes have attack, sustain and decay. Not much decay on his playing. He slammed the guitar. And Voodoo Chile's a Hendrix song. Hendrix and Albert King were SRV's big influences. He said once that he used to see and hear Hendrix playing in his dreams, would wake up and work out the guitar parts. ... Harmonica? Check out Little Walter and Paul Butterfield.
To answer some of your guitar questions, you can get a decent playing guitar to learn on in the $350 - $500 USD range. Spending less is possible, but the quality difference on something that inexpensive is likely to make the process of learning more difficult than it needs to be. To save a little money, you'd find yourself fighting against the guitar a lot of the time. Remember when you buy a guitar in a local shop, ask to have it "set up" professionally. If you order from an online vendor like Sweetwater, it might be worth it the extra cost to have them "PLEK" the guitar, again to improve playability and makes learning less of a struggle. Avoiding a "wammy bar" or tremolo on an inexpensive guitar might be a good idea since a cheap tremolo contributes to tuning instability. Sure, dive bombing the wammy bar might seem cool, that is until you find yourself spending more time constantly re-tuning rather than playing. Humbucking pick-ups are good to eliminate any electrical humming sound from the amplifier, although some "silent" single coil pick-ups also provide a bright (Stratocaster-like) single-coil sound without annoying hum. The more pick-up combinations, the greater tonal variety, but keeping things simple (single pick-up, tone knob, volume knob) is completely acceptable and less likely to introduce electrical hum from cheap pots (knobs), switches, and un-shielded components. (Also, you'd spend less time messing around finding the "right tone" and more time actually practicing.) Playing with a pick, with fingers, or a combination changes the tone of the "attack" of a note. Being able to combine a variety of playing styles within a single song is an advantage for expressing creativity. Generally, when playing an electric guitar you'll want to be able to use a pick adeptly if you want to play rock. Acoustic guitar, whether for folk music, country music, or other genres often make greater use of finger-picking techniques in combination with flat-picking. SRV also uses a variety of effects pedals (stomp-boxes) to affect his sound. In this song the use of a "wah pedal" is traditional. He also seems to be using an overdrive / distortion and some sort of "octave" device. Jimi Hendrix often used an "octave fuzz" to get a similar sound, and SRV is covering the song in a manner consistent with Hendrix's performance while adding his own flair to it. A lot of the different sounds you hear coming from electric guitars gets generated by the countless stomp-box effects, that's why electric guitars seem so unbelievably versitile.
It’s A Wa Wa,The band in all are Tight,And also he uses the pick Up’s to make the different sounds. You really need tons of talent to play,😊I’ve been playing for 50 years and can’t play nothing like that,Plus He use very heavy Strings.18 gauge,He uses New Skin on fingers to help with playing, because the strings are hard to play plus they get slivers in them.He is a Guitar God,R.I.P. my Brother
You LOVE the Harmonica ???? And have not done a Lee Oskar of the band WAR??? "GYPSY MAN" "CITY, COUNTRY, CITY" "SMILE HAPPY" "SOUTHERN PART OF TEXAS" +++Many many many more. LEE OSKAR is THE G.O.A.T. !!!!!
You should definitely listen to the original Voodoo Chile, with an 'e' (Voodoo Child, Slight Return is also Jimi, but somewhat different) by Jimi Hendrix. Listen to the studio version first. Many people watch Jimi live first, and while he was a great performer, live videos of him are usually like extended jams with very few vocals...you don't get the feeling for an actual 'song'. The studio version of Voodoo Chile is legendary.
You can pick up a yamaha fg 800 acoustic for @ $250. And a yamaha electric for a little less. They make a decent starter because they dont kill the bank and they have decent quality
Shon Google, SRV & Jeff BECK LIVE IF, U WANT TO SEE/ Hear MAGICAL, LIVE U WILL NEVER LOOK AT GUITAR 🎸 PLAYING THE SAME, Again.. Then There Is Gary MOORE!!, etc...
I got a few nice guitars and drums. Can't play at all, but try. I'm a machine programmer. If ya want to play guitar like that its all you do 24 7. Nothing else.
seriously. you just CANT stop so many times. it's sacrilege to ever interrupt SRV. this is a reaction video and you're supposed to, but more than twice and you'll just have to get used to the idea that you're always gonna get yelled at for it. it's too painful for fans LOL. 🤣
Hahaha,,, Hey do research take lessons, There are so many Guitar types, Electric , Acoustic n other shit. The learning process will amaze u and keep that brain going, it is great to learn how to make music
The greatest of all time! No one holds a candle to him.

Yngwie Malmsteen holds it.

“Life without you” should be your next SRV reaction……it is incredible!
Jimi Hendrix did the original recording of this cut. You will no doubt hear arguments about which was best. Personally, I feel that SRV is the absolute GOAT! SRV doing a cover & paying homage to Hendrix. The eternal debate but IMO Stevie was THE GOAT.
Yngwie Malmsteen is also the GOAT
SRV often practiced 8 to 10 hours a day. I believe he got his first guitar at age 6!
James Marshall Hendrix "Jimi Hendrix" wrote this song. My musical idol. SRV did Voodoo Chile justice!
