  • In this video, I go over my experience and first impressions of the Carhartt Hooded Rough Cut Jacket. After spending years in Carhartt's Duck Cloth Jacket, I found myself traveling to their site looking for an upgrade. There was so much more that than I had thought that there was going to be. Jackets like the Bartlett, Carhartt Force Storm Defender, Regular Duck Cloth jackets, and much more.
This jacket was one that I purchased because as I did my research, it just started rising to the top of the list while I was trying to peg down the features that I was looking for. With a tough shell, I really felt that this was the work jacket that I needed.
Like always, I'll include the link below so you can have quick access to this jacket. If you are interested in anything else from Carhartt, visit www.carhartt.com and see what else they have going on.

Great Video. Two out of three of my favorite things. The PNW and Carhartt.

Reason it’s a hair large is because it’s made for layering.
The trick to keeping warm if you’re mobile is layers. I’m in Philly and in the winter. I usually wear a USGI silk weight base layer, USGI grid fleece 1/4 zip. I’ll wear both top and bottoms depending on the temps.
Then I’ll wear an outer shell. When I’m moving around this keeps me warm.
With this rough cut I would wear this over my layers.

I don’t know what version it was exactly because I bought it a few years back and I couldn’t find its exact match anywhere online. The closest version I saw was the Bartlett duck cloth but both are built around the basic duck cloth jacket. Really a solid jacket and one of my favorites that I’ve owned.

Thanks! I’m looking for a medium weight soft shell for the fall months. Not necessarily to keep me warm but for wind protection. I already have a winter jacket. Is this rough cut medium weight and durable? I’m a laborer and in the sh*t a lot.

Nice review but I think you should have gotten the XL

I was able to grab a Vortex Force Extremes rain set in a large tall. Great weight and able to layer in the cold months. When I start work it has been in the mid 30’s and wearing the rain gear has kept me warm keeping the wind out and trapping heat in.
However I would prefer to use a soft shell option when it’s dry. This looks a little slimmer fit than the Storm defender force extremes jacket you reviewed. Is it? I would want to layer this rough cut with a base layer, waffle and a fleece. Thanks!

It does look a little slimmer but it honestly looks like the replacement to the Storm Defender. I still had a little room when I wore my regular jacket underneath so if you are going with the Rough Cut and other layers, you'll probably feel a little tight in the shoulders but I bet you can get away with it.

I’m 6’4” and skinny, should I get XL tall?

    • @TechGearClothing
      @TechGearClothing  3 года назад

I would say yes. The jacket that I ordered came with a return shipping label So it would be super easy to return it if you feel like you needed to but honestly it was the best fitting jacket that I’ve tried on in a while if I consider how it fit next to buying normal extra large clothing and jackets just because I’m tall.

You're skinny than the reviewer? Then get the same size, if he would have rather got the xl. You saw the skinner model with the large tall and it looked baggy

This jacket is so close to being good but they messed up in a couple areas. The hood is too small and doesn't adjust properly. The sleeves are too tight which means they restrict movement. It's too long and tight around the ribs so more movement restriction. The cuffs doesn't adjust properly so they are always ending up over part of your palm. And the adjustment is on the button of the cuff meaning the cuff catches or interferes with grabbing things. So close but can't recommend.
More on the cuffs, The cuffs are awkward and not very comfortable. The fold is right under your wrist. So you feel a lump of fabric under your hand whenever the base of your hand rests on something. I'm 5'11" and 170lbs with an athletic build.

Sounds like you just need a bigger size 😂. I’m 6’2”, 225lbs and I got the XL and have absolutely zero complaints. I can even fit a hoodie under it if I wanted and it has spandex so it stretches with movement.
