This is how I clean my small window air-conditioning unit. It's used in a busy small dog grooming shop and it gets real dirty real fast. It's a 6500 btu LG (part 1)
*So amazingly quiet and **Fastly.Cool** in my room! 42db is at a whisper level. I bought 2 and installed myself.Very sturdy bracket and easy to adjust to fit windows of different size. Absolutely fabulous units!!*

The compressor was coming on and off when I seen this video and took it about it was filthy had it six years never cleaned nothing but the filter lol I have a Zenith just like this one 👊🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Have a LW1516ER that was about a year old. It has a slide in filter that goes into the plastic grill of the AC. I wanted to take the plastic front completely off to check if it had a l piece of vine that had grown into the AC in the off season. I removed the two screws that attached the front that were visible after taking out the slide in filter. Front cover still would not come off. I pulled really hard. Called LG service line. They told me it was a maintenance issue and they could not help me. So if I can't fix it, I break it is my motto. I prized at the bottom right of the cover where there is a slot with a screw driver. Low and behold the bottom of the front popped off. So went to left bottom side. No dice. Would not budge pulling hard by hand. Back to the screw driver. After prying really hard the left bottom of the front came loose. I think it broke part of a little plastic nub that was on the left front bottom of the cover that snap fits into a square hole in the metal case. To make a long story longer. It turned out OK. I did get the front off (pry at the bottom) after removing top screws. Front went back OK and did not rattle and still seemed tight. It should be a lot easier to get off next time with the left plastic nub having been shown who is boss.
Forgive me for saying, but i believe you when you said once a year.It looks like you only clean it once a year.i usually clean mine once a week if its running 24/7.
Mine is blowing but hot air!!! I cleaned the filter and tried cleaning coils with a broom cause mine is in a storage house and cant be taken out? It had caked up ? yuck all on coils and I brushed some off but its still not cooling...How do I clean without taking it out?
Hello Ken. There is a red light located right by the power button, that continues to blink. Any idea what that means? It's an LG air conditioner, 2,000BTU's, I believe.
What can I do if I cannot get the AC unit out of my window? I mistakenly got the biggest unit that Lowes sells and it took three grown men to get it in... I am a small girl and I cannot do it alone but my AC unit smells awful and I think it needs to be cleaned because it's almost a year old now.
+Kayla Crosby it may not be draining properly . If it has an option for outside air you might want to use that a little bit see if that helps. If the air-conditioner is not leaning back a little bit and draining properly you can get a moldy smell. It usually takes more than a year for the air-conditioner to get dirty enough to have to take apart and clean. It's also possible there's a dead animal in there. Sorry I can't be of more help. Keep searching the Internet for smelly air conditioners.
Ken Dee Thank you very much for replying to me. I am going to check it when the rain here stops. For now I am just sticking car air fresheners on the front of it when I need to use it. It does have an option for outside air, I will change that, thank you.
It's great to clean the filter, but I'm the type that just says its an expense every 2 years, or more to buy a new one, instead of all that unscrewing and uncertainty if it will work..?..we all buy new phones, why not a new AC unit..its like a car payment or insurance payment.
I have had the same cell phone for 15yrs. The battery gets to the point where it want hold charge so I go to battery plus $10 or less and am back talking.
+Natasha Clements I also had a through the wall unit, it had 4 to 6 screws around the outside and the guts just pulled out . If you do an Internet search for replacing through the wall units should find some videos on it. You might be able to take the front grill off and spray a hose through the air conditioner, but it would be really messy.

You need to cover those electrical parts so they don't get wet. Or it's not going to work right when you go to put it back together

You might be able to spray a hose through the back. I would do it as a last resort and at your own risk.

Hopefully you found out by now but it means the air filter needs to be cleaned like shown in this video an then you must reset the filter

My ac unit is leaking or sweating from the bottom and running down my wall and soaking my carpet. It is tilted back and still running water.
There might be a drain hole on the outside bottom or side of the air-conditioner that's plugged up with leaves or something.
