We should be expecting more from the story (in terms of presentation at the very least) considering how much money Hoyo makes, and considering how long Penacony was in development (supposedly) it's crazy how much its story relied on bloated dialogue and static cutscenes does this make it the worst game I've played, nah but certainly there's plenty of room for improvement... hopefully 2.4/2.5 (barring any plot holes people noticed) are more indicative of the storytelling in Amphoreus than Penacony lmao
the recent Xianzhou story is not indicator or glimpse for upcoming Amphoreus story cause each story is written or you could said being in charged by different writers. Like how Belobog, Xianzhou and Penacony(Shaoji was the writer for Penacony) are written by different writer which you can feel and see clearly in their story style and story quality. Upcoming Amphoreus is gonna be written by Fanchuan, aka "Greenland Sailboat", this is the writer of hi3 few visual novel which loved by fan like 7 sword or Welt backstory and many story arc in hi3 like Otto arc. In term of writing and popularity of Fanchuan story, he is consider right behind Shaoji

Im with him on Penacony. I was actually happy to go back to Xianzhou, and I didn't particularly like that area either. Rappa's quest and event nearly broke me, though. We seriously need a skip button for a lot of the content.
I think the reason why skip button never added is to force us to follow all the new characters subtle reveals, just so we will be like "oh shit who's that?" and when the drip dropped "oh i saw her in the story" despite dont bother at all about the plot. But even so, please let us skip for shitty small quests and events 😭

Guess the grace period for Penacony is up. The only thing that bothered me was how much they talked about the harmony bird though. 😅 But I guess everyone didn’t like how much it was repeated it since it’s a meme now. Penacony was still the best planet for me, but even I was zoning out a bit. Thankfully I can understand most of what the characters are talking about. We all know most of the players don’t read anyway and skip. 😂 Oh, and if they did read, maybe half of people actually understand what was happening.
I have to agree that some of the content repeated itself, mostly on the bird. But when I think about it, the repeat was done per patch so I think the repeat was a refresher. Unfortunately, they might have done it heavy-handedly making it feel like the players have an IQ below 90. What they should have done is create a recall feature so they can have it repeat to them voluntarily.
I dont think its so much that people have turned back on it and more that those who liked or were at least ok with it have moved on from the subject, meanwhile those who hate it keep coming back to criticize it. I think the attitude has definitely mellowed on it from PEAK to calling it alright/good, but flawed.

One of the ways I rate a game or an major part of its story is by asking this question: Besides the boss fight and cutscenes is there any part in the game you would like to reexperience? If the answer is yes, then that's a good sign. I may say yes to Belobog (and maybe even some part of Luofu), but no to Penacony.
Some parts of Penycony I would want to rexperience for the first time though. Seeing Acheron cut Aventrines attack was sick, seeing the send off of Kakvsha as Aventurine walked off into the black hole was awesome, seeing the conversation between Aventrine and Sunday when they were talking about reclaiming the bag with the cornerstone in it was instrusting to watch. I loved the Firefly conversation about dreams near the beginning of Penycony, I loved the scene between the galaxy ranger Torian and Acheron with the Raiden Mei Ost in the background, and finally the secret ending with Acheron was cool. I also loved the conversation between Acheron and Welt about Kevin and famuler faces. Point is for me there was things worth rexperienceing.

So he is absolutely right, the game lacks interactivity for dialogues to at least affect something, if you look at the same Heaven Burns Red - almost all dialogues affect the plot to one degree or another and you can get a bad ending. In HSR, dialogues do not affect anything, they are just there as the same question under different interpretations, but they do not bring anything new and no interactivity. There is no impact on the gameplay, the gamer does not feel the influence of the game's subtext on the gameplay, which means that it simply nullifies all the player's decisions that were made in one context or another. This is a serious problem in this game.
at this point genshin is better in story telling because they are doing cinematic animation/emoting and cool angle with so much less walking animation, maybe they are scared of wuwa, maybe not but, hey they are improving, while rappa sq makes me scared that hsr wont change
its better because it the medium of storytelling constantly rotates from static dialogue, cinematics, combat, and comic strip transitions... penacony's actual story content is good but the execution of its storytelling is mindnumbingly tedious.. we dont need a static background for 20 minutes where you only read texts..

I used to play HSR like crazy, login everyday , do daily quest, spend my stamina, play every single event, pay attention to any news related to HSR. Now, I spend less than 30 minutes in the game, don't even bother to play the main quests, events, simulated universe, and I can't figure out the reason, maybe this is why

I’ve come to realize that many people play hsr because they enjoy the endless yapping. Every time someone expresses their desire for a dialogue skip button on the Reddit sub, they get downvoted to hell.

It's a theme throughout all their games to be honest, at least for me, the overall stories are usually good if you condense them down to plot points, but how they're told often drags.
imo the issues that ryukuu is highlighting is a sentiment shared by all gachas, which is the yap, because instead of actually showing what’s going in the story, most of the big gachas nowadays just dialogue dump. Wuwa is also guilty of this but here’s the thing, IT HAS A SKIP BUTTON, so yh while I get where he’s coming from 100%, I dont think it’s u fair to give this criticism to star rail and not to every other gacha released. Most of the story experience pretty much depends if you have a skip button or not. Which imo should be a bare minimum in gachas from now.
Ironically, you can actually try to make the yap section at least bearable, by using different camera angles, characters move uniquely according to their personality during the dialogue, using less foregin jargon/technobabble or just straight up explaining things simply and leave things implicitly Like Einstein once said, if you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough.

And i believe it's possible for HSR at least, bc we had an event where you could skip repeated sections, so technically they can program the whole thing - they just don't want to.
Not all gachas, mostly shared by CN gachas. Coz they think bloating players with random jargon, term, and loredump is cool, not to mention sometimes hard to understand English. JP and KR gachas stories are easier to digest and enjoy. BA and nikke are some examples.

Maybe because korean writers have experience writing k-drama, while japanese writers mostly have experience writing novel that more prioritize the complexity of kanji than words counts... since you know, wuxia and webnovel kinda a thing in chinese, and the writers there got paid by how many words written. So maybe reason why hoyo games full of bloated dialogues with unnecessary words because they want to get paid more
Funny thing is I liked Penacony than way more than 1.0, This is what got me so into the game. I started when 2.2 / 2.3 was out and played it all in one go. Funny me for wanting to play an RPG to read or to hear character dialogue... that people these days just call "Yapping" I guess this is not for everyone.
Cuz people also look at the screen , they arent hearing it like an audiobook like you, thats why people says its full of yapping cuz theres not much movements(static screen)
One point I don't understand about, what's he talking about you need to do Simulated Universe to understand about Harmony, Nihility, Xipe, etc. ? pretty sure I got the knowledge of those Aeons through main quest since I always skip anything in Simulated Universe
SU has a LOT of info regarding the world and Aeons so you'd be missing out on a lot - especially this recent expansion where we had Polka Kakamond appear to send us to Jesus and we needed the Herta and the crew's help to fend her off.

While not absolutely important, it gives you a more concrete and complete context about the grand scheme of things in the story.

It makes me sad that this is the reality. Kind of ironic that it takes place in the land of dreams where you only want to experience the fleeting moments more, while avoiding the real reality. I wasn’t sure what I wanted from Star rail as a new player this month. I legit speed ran all the content, but I could remember the overarching plot of Belobog better than half and even less of Xianzhu and Penacony respectively. Perhaps because HoYo decided to listen to more feedback from certain communities this time around, we got more information dumped on us than we could digest. Most of what was told doesn’t really pertain to the actual plot. If you removed Aventurine character quest and added it later (like idk replace Rappa’s quest), you wouldn’t miss much and you could see his side of the story at a much better pacing. I think the worst thing they tried to do was explain dying in dreams. It is so convoluted and hard to comprehend because of the amount of fake-outs and real ones. It certainly is shocking if you experienced it for the first time, but then it just got confusing with how the order of the characters that died and those that didn’t. Which comes back to switching character perspective to develop plot point, it felt unnecessary especially the Robin and Sunday one, and could be replaced with more impactful cutscenes right at the end of Sunday’s fall.

Ive been saying this about penacony, terrible story telling so much that i think it ruined the world especially after 2.6. Luckily story improved with Hoolay (2.5) and the Luka event so there is hope but i genuinely wish they worked on the story telling more in the future. The only reason i like playing this game is because of the combat, music , and characters/design so its not a huge issue for me. But I can understand why others do not feel the same way.

@@AHA-AHA-AHA-AHA I played Blue Archive for about 4 months, but the dailies and grind was too much for me to handle. Burned myself out on the game very quickly. HSR is probably the only Gatcha I like, or at least it didn't burn me out yet. I did try Wuwa too, first hour was amazing, but it fell off after that so quickly. Feels like an unfinished game, this event even has simulated universe rip-off in it's even lol. Genshins and Wuwas grind for resources makes me not even want to play those games, at least in Honkai you can leave it on auto and do something else.

i do agree that aventurine story is way too long but to say it has no effect on the story is not true. The whole point is to show his motivation, the process of him accepting death just to prove you can be killed in the dream realm and also create a slash through the bubble created by Ena. His death alone helps the trailblazers to access the dreamflux reef. Or you can say it makes him feel more like human and not just show up and then be killed which would make the plot way way worse.

What i like about hsr is the hidden plays between the factions is really interesting. I also do like the funny interaction betweens the mains characters. But sometimes the dialogue/plot are a bit too obscure, almost feel like even the writers don't really know where they are going. Uhm.
My issue about his criticism is that everything he criticizing about Penacony he defends in Wuthering with his whole chest. Especially about my take on Shorekeeper story should have been a companion quest instead of main story issues

A lot of the problems in Penacony comes from pacing dialogue bloat and lack of background knowledge of the characters. Shaoji the guy we overhyped his story telling is best displayed when characters were already built upon. Case in point Elysium everlasting.
Man I wish Hoyoverse would reduce the dialogue bloating because Penacony actually has a pretty good story. I’m not gonna lie, I think I spaced out whenever Acheron and Welt was on screen and fell asleep maybe around the end (except Sunday’s boss fight woke me up) I really enjoyed Aventurine’s story though and liked the P.O.V character changes, but holy Jesus, sometimes I wish Hoyo would add a skip button. Also the 2.6 story, ngl I like the concept of brainrot monkeys and Rappa and Boothill’s story was actually interesting, but sometimes it goes off into this full on yap to the point it’s unbearable to listen to. I wish ZZZ’s storytelling and HSR’s story would like clash into each other, and add a skip button too.
The HSR 3.0 patch in a nutshell to me: "Stil no skip-button for dialogue? Stil no money from me for Mihoyo" Ive played alot of gachas over the years, but never in my life did i feel a gacha-game wasting my time/patience and intellect like this patch. After 1,5 hours of pure boredom, i just turned the sound off, let a clickbot run to skip thorugh the dialogue faster and watched netflix on my other monitor. After about 6 hours, i was so anoyed that i deinstalled the game. Compared to HSR the Wuthering Waves devs did a fantasitc job with 2.0, actually making the game feel like an improved version
Since he said it then I'm gonna also come out and say it, yeah, I didn't give a damn about Robin's death, it was surprising but not emotionally impacting at all; we didn't know squat about her, she was a complete stranger at that point. But Firefly's death was even less impactful to me because they shoved her in our face so much with her constantly smiling that I saw the death flag above her face in the first five minutes I spoke to her. I was more surprised that she came back later because she did feel like that one npc you meet in a story and you know they'r just gonna die to set a darker tone for the narrative. Also, this dude litteraly contradicted himself within a few minutes. First he complained about Aventurine's story during the main quest and then he complains about why we didn't see Robin's story during the main quest ???!!! Do you WANT to see side character stories during the quest or NOT ? PICK ONE !
That's not a contradiction because they aren't the same thing. 1, robin's death is a main plot point that drives the story forward, therefore it's important to make the player care about the character so that it's interesting. If it isn't interesting, it's not a good story. As for adventurine point, it's a side story that's randomly placed in the middle of the main story where you take his perspective. That's completely different to developing robin's character. Adventurines backstory should have been done after the main story to give you a different perspective of his character, but putting it in the middle takes away from the trailblazers story.
I like how with Aventurine and firefly, he is like I dun care don't go to their perspectives, leave that for character stories. Then with Robin he is like why do u not show me Robin getting shot, why let Sunday yap. ??? Shouldn't that be in the character quest then according to u? And then if the story telling is always bound to the main character, people start saying the characters have no story and are boring.
Sunday was the main villain and Robin backstory would add some meaningful context to his villain origin story. And people like you who aren't smart enough to understand basic things like this try to gaslighting people to think 2.0 story was actually deep and philosophical. 😂😂😂

@@pooyayaddasht2419 We didn't even know who the main villain was back in 2.0 and 2.1, 2.0 and 2.1 are the build up episodes, if they don't talk about those supporting casts in the main quest, smartasses like you will complain how the story didn't make you care about the characters. Hsr was never meant to be a movie, it's more like a episode by episode show on TV. Also Sunday is the main villain, but showing Robin getting shot doesn't make his villain story more rich, it's not the main point of his villain story, Sunday also didn't see that happen himself. Maybe you can't read, but Sunday's main origin story is his period listening to confessions for years, and they did show that more important point.
I think he meant with the length of Aventurine airtime, that should be character quest. Meanwhile a small section at best 15 minutes of building up Robin backstory until getting shot then back to Sunday reasoning, is good enough to not be a character quest.
Yeah that was definitely the wildest take. Even the Aventurine part of the story was better, maybe Slumbernana monkey was worse or about the same, but at least it interspersed with some wholesome March/Dan Heng interaction and Mr. Reca was actually hilarious. There were not many redeeming factors in the Aranara quests honestly.

Honestly, Penacony was not really that bad. Dissapointing in some regards, far from peak, but it was ok for what it delivered. I think Ryuuku does not understand that Honkai games are more about stories and less about the gameplay. Lets be honest, even if he got more gameplay, it would have changed nothing because he would have just auto battled through it quickly anyway and still complained. That being said, I do agree he has valid points. Dialogue needs more life/interactivity, it can be cut down, the fake out deaths etc...but he lost me when he complained the game did not properly explain certain things or that the story didn't make sense. I understood it fine without needing to read additional info or deep dive into SU/DU. He definitely did not pay attention like he claims or failed to pay attention in earlier gameplay leading up to Penacony. That made it hard to take him seriously aside from the yapping criticism.
here my take Just because you don't skip the dialogue doesn't mean you understand the story and it show 1. Robin death not to make us care but to start a murder mystery who or what killing poeple 2. We follow aventurine not to feel for him because he a villain. no 2.1 he work like a detective so how would we connect the hint in the muder mystery if we don't follow and play as him huh. 3. Robin getting shot in the story is not the point for her but for Sunday to think and lost faith in harmony so we don't need to see it 4. Xuanzhou Loufu sucks balls for these reasons: 1. Too focused on showing off characters, leading to everyone having half-ass character development. 2. Some characters just happen to be at very convenient places for no particular reasons other than "the plot demands it" 3. For someone called "Divine Foresight", Jing Yuan only won because he got lucky.
Biggest reason is that MC is entirely pointless. Captured Kafka? Immediately escapes. Epic battle with the final boss? Dan heng solved all of it. Seriously. If MC didn’t left the train and took a nap for entire story line, nothing would have changed. The only mattered was dan heng. The story should revolve around MC. Harry potter series revolves around Harry potter. That’s the main purpose of MC. And if you failed on that, well then, your story failed too

I really liked 2.5 because the pacing felt so refreshing, with more forward motion and actually compelling fights. and when there was a lot of yapping it was high stakes and really engaging. then 2.6 happened and yeah everything he talked about was still pretty true (tho Boothill section was well paced IMO). in general I do think we need more turn based combat in the turn based combat game. I loved Penacony and can forgive the inefficient storytelling for the sake of the long view and piecing the lore together, but he's so not wrong about the pacing and division of time. I really hope Amphoreus is a step forward from everything Hoyo and the community have learned from the journey so far. maybe more fights with trial story characters so it really feels connected to the plot. more dynamic cutscenes and show over tell. this is the kind of feedback the game needs, the devs hand been listening in terms of QoL and other balancing so I hope they are listening about the storytelling.

yeah and he complained about some important story information being locked behind non mandatory content but he wants Aventurine's story ( which is essential to understand his actions in 2.1 ) to not be part of the main quest but a companion quest ( which are not mandatory ). I do agree with some of his points ( to some extend. Hsr's story is far from perfect, especially when it comes to story telling ) but he is definitly over hating.

I have a problem with the way certain characters were handled in Penacony. Firefly implied in 2.0 that she could only use her 'body' in the dreamscape. because she was 'confined to the icy cabin' or whatever and because she has a disease. Never brought up again, and it seems like she can move around fine? i actually couldn't tell because by the end 'Reality' and the Dreamscape got so muddied up, I couldn't tell where we were. Aventurine should've actually died. His character was completed, his entire story arc and the climax was resolved. Black Swan was LITERALLY just a Deus Ex Machina in multiple situations, to the point where wtf is the point of her character besides just being in the right place with the right solution? That's about it though. Other characters Acheron, Sunday, and Welt all just talk TOO FUCKING SLOW. I liked everything else :^)
Have you ever considered the mech suit = to the 'icy cabin' your referring to also some of the story about characters are in the myriad celestia and the Simulated Uni and if you are that invested in their story you can piece them together through the sprinkled pieces they throw at you which I am not bothered to go through.

It had just seemed as if when she was speaking about it in 2.0, Firefly was confined inside of it with no way of exiting, and the Dreamscape was the only way she was able to move around outside of it. But that's clearly not the case, because of the scene in the car with Blade on the other planet. So that piece of dialogue is weird to me.

Honestly saying Luofu is good and Penacony is bad is only a take you can have if you know either 0 lore or paid no attention. The initial Xianzhou Quest is still the worst in the game for multiple reasons. It introduced a concept they quickly scrapped which was the idea of mamdatory side quests This created a huge issue for the story because people who actually did the Dan Shu quest were greeted by basically a completely different character in the follow up of the story that was just cartoonishly evil and then got insta killed by fake Tingyun Ah yes...fake Tingyun Something that was not built up AT ALL in the entire previous quest. Tingyun being Phantylia absolutely could have worked as twist if: A) We knew Phantylia even was a character that exists, which we didn't snd therefore made her a completely ineffective twist villain B) If we actually met the *real* Tingyun at *any* point WHICH WE DIDN'T Point B is the biggest misstep as the absence of ever meeting the actual Tingyun makes any investment the player and the in universe cast have in her death a complete joke. Oh and finally a personal gripe.... Blade and Dan Heng. Giant lore that was built up highly and fell flat in a 10 second cutscene were Blade insta wins and then joins DHIL because we need to have gameplay for two Banner characters. Big Lore of these two? Naaaa we resolve this stuff in a few seconds.
In terms of story telling, luofu is better. He did not say it is good, but it is relatively better than penacony's storytelling. And if you watch till the end you may heard him say luofu is also bad just a bit better than penacony in his opinion in terms of storyteling

It's really telling when Belobog, the first planet had the best story telling even after Xianzhou and Penacony was released in all of its entirety. I hope the game picks up again when the new planet comes around since the other two didn't really seem as engaging for me.

Like how Belobog, Xianzhou and Penacony(Shaoji was the writer for Penacony) are written by different writer which you can feel and see clearly in their story style and story quality. Upcoming Amphoreus is gonna be written by Fanchuan, aka "Greenland Sailboat", this is the writer of hi3 few visual novel which loved by fan like 7 sword or Welt backstory and many story arc in hi3 like Otto arc. In term of writing and popularity of Fanchuan story, he is consider right behind Shaoji

Im with him on Penacony. I was actually happy to go back to Xianzhou, and I didn't particularly like that area either. Rappa's quest and event nearly broke me, though. We seriously need a skip button for a lot of the content.
I think the reason why skip button never added is to force us to follow all the new characters subtle reveals, just so we will be like "oh shit who's that?" and when the drip dropped "oh i saw her in the story" despite dont bother at all about the plot. But even so, please let us skip for shitty small quests and events 😭

I have to agree that some of the content repeated itself, mostly on the bird. But when I think about it, the repeat was done per patch so I think the repeat was a refresher. Unfortunately, they might have done it heavy-handedly making it feel like the players have an IQ below 90. What they should have done is create a recall feature so they can have it repeat to them voluntarily.

Besides the boss fight and cutscenes is there any part in the game you would like to reexperience?
If the answer is yes, then that's a good sign.
I may say yes to Belobog (and maybe even some part of Luofu), but no to Penacony.
Some parts of Penycony I would want to rexperience for the first time though. Seeing Acheron cut Aventrines attack was sick, seeing the send off of Kakvsha as Aventurine walked off into the black hole was awesome, seeing the conversation between Aventrine and Sunday when they were talking about reclaiming the bag with the cornerstone in it was instrusting to watch. I loved the Firefly conversation about dreams near the beginning of Penycony, I loved the scene between the galaxy ranger Torian and Acheron with the Raiden Mei Ost in the background, and finally the secret ending with Acheron was cool. I also loved the conversation between Acheron and Welt about Kevin and famuler faces. Point is for me there was things worth rexperienceing.

So he is absolutely right, the game lacks interactivity for dialogues to at least affect something, if you look at the same Heaven Burns Red - almost all dialogues affect the plot to one degree or another and you can get a bad ending. In HSR, dialogues do not affect anything, they are just there as the same question under different interpretations, but they do not bring anything new and no interactivity. There is no impact on the gameplay, the gamer does not feel the influence of the game's subtext on the gameplay, which means that it simply nullifies all the player's decisions that were made in one context or another. This is a serious problem in this game.

I’ve come to realize that many people play hsr because they enjoy the endless yapping. Every time someone expresses their desire for a dialogue skip button on the Reddit sub, they get downvoted to hell.

It's a theme throughout all their games to be honest, at least for me, the overall stories are usually good if you condense them down to plot points, but how they're told often drags.
imo the issues that ryukuu is highlighting is a sentiment shared by all gachas, which is the yap, because instead of actually showing what’s going in the story, most of the big gachas nowadays just dialogue dump.
Wuwa is also guilty of this but here’s the thing, IT HAS A SKIP BUTTON, so yh while I get where he’s coming from 100%, I dont think it’s u fair to give this criticism to star rail and not to every other gacha released.
Most of the story experience pretty much depends if you have a skip button or not. Which imo should be a bare minimum in gachas from now.
Ironically, you can actually try to make the yap section at least bearable, by using different camera angles, characters move uniquely according to their personality during the dialogue, using less foregin jargon/technobabble or just straight up explaining things simply and leave things implicitly

That's the problem with Genshin currently. You just can't press "next" until character leaves the screen or be done with their animation. Thus making the whole yapping more unbearable to people who want to skip the whole thing. JUST ADD THE SKIP BUTTON! And i believe it's possible for HSR at least, bc we had an event where you could skip repeated sections, so technically they can program the whole thing - they just don't want to.
Not all gachas, mostly shared by CN gachas. Coz they think bloating players with random jargon, term, and loredump is cool, not to mention sometimes hard to understand English.
JP and KR gachas stories are easier to digest and enjoy. BA and nikke are some examples.

Maybe because korean writers have experience writing k-drama, while japanese writers mostly have experience writing novel that more prioritize the complexity of kanji than words counts... since you know, wuxia and webnovel kinda a thing in chinese, and the writers there got paid by how many words written. So maybe reason why hoyo games full of bloated dialogues with unnecessary words because they want to get paid more
Funny thing is I liked Penacony than way more than 1.0, This is what got me so into the game. I started when 2.2 / 2.3 was out and played it all in one go. Funny me for wanting to play an RPG to read or to hear character dialogue... that people these days just call "Yapping" I guess this is not for everyone.
I think the problem is it feels overly verbose. I like hearing characters converse and stuff but it becomes "yap" when it's talking for talking itself
Cuz people also look at the screen , they arent hearing it like an audiobook like you, thats why people says its full of yapping cuz theres not much movements(static screen)
One point I don't understand about, what's he talking about you need to do Simulated Universe to understand about Harmony, Nihility, Xipe, etc. ? pretty sure I got the knowledge of those Aeons through main quest since I always skip anything in Simulated Universe
SU has a LOT of info regarding the world and Aeons so you'd be missing out on a lot - especially this recent expansion where we had Polka Kakamond appear to send us to Jesus and we needed the Herta and the crew's help to fend her off.

While not absolutely important, it gives you a more concrete and complete context about the grand scheme of things in the story.

It makes me sad that this is the reality. Kind of ironic that it takes place in the land of dreams where you only want to experience the fleeting moments more, while avoiding the real reality. I wasn’t sure what I wanted from Star rail as a new player this month. I legit speed ran all the content, but I could remember the overarching plot of Belobog better than half and even less of Xianzhu and Penacony respectively.
Perhaps because HoYo decided to listen to more feedback from certain communities this time around, we got more information dumped on us than we could digest. Most of what was told doesn’t really pertain to the actual plot. If you removed Aventurine character quest and added it later (like idk replace Rappa’s quest), you wouldn’t miss much and you could see his side of the story at a much better pacing.
I think the worst thing they tried to do was explain dying in dreams. It is so convoluted and hard to comprehend because of the amount of fake-outs and real ones. It certainly is shocking if you experienced it for the first time, but then it just got confusing with how the order of the characters that died and those that didn’t. Which comes back to switching character perspective to develop plot point, it felt unnecessary especially the Robin and Sunday one, and could be replaced with more impactful cutscenes right at the end of Sunday’s fall.

Ive been saying this about penacony, terrible story telling so much that i think it ruined the world especially after 2.6. Luckily story improved with Hoolay (2.5) and the Luka event so there is hope but i genuinely wish they worked on the story telling more in the future. The only reason i like playing this game is because of the combat, music , and characters/design so its not a huge issue for me. But I can understand why others do not feel the same way.

HSR is probably the only Gatcha I like, or at least it didn't burn me out yet. I did try Wuwa too, first hour was amazing, but it fell off after that so quickly. Feels like an unfinished game, this event even has simulated universe rip-off in it's even lol. Genshins and Wuwas grind for resources makes me not even want to play those games, at least in Honkai you can leave it on auto and do something else.

i do agree that aventurine story is way too long but to say it has no effect on the story is not true. The whole point is to show his motivation, the process of him accepting death just to prove you can be killed in the dream realm and also create a slash through the bubble created by Ena. His death alone helps the trailblazers to access the dreamflux reef. Or you can say it makes him feel more like human and not just show up and then be killed which would make the plot way way worse.

What i like about hsr is the hidden plays between the factions is really interesting. I also do like the funny interaction betweens the mains characters. But sometimes the dialogue/plot are a bit too obscure, almost feel like even the writers don't really know where they are going. Uhm.

Ive played alot of gachas over the years, but never in my life did i feel a gacha-game wasting my time/patience and intellect like this patch. After 1,5 hours of pure boredom, i just turned the sound off, let a clickbot run to skip thorugh the dialogue faster and watched netflix on my other monitor. After about 6 hours, i was so anoyed that i deinstalled the game.
Compared to HSR the Wuthering Waves devs did a fantasitc job with 2.0, actually making the game feel like an improved version

Since he said it then I'm gonna also come out and say it, yeah, I didn't give a damn about Robin's death, it was surprising but not emotionally impacting at all; we didn't know squat about her, she was a complete stranger at that point. But Firefly's death was even less impactful to me because they shoved her in our face so much with her constantly smiling that I saw the death flag above her face in the first five minutes I spoke to her. I was more surprised that she came back later because she did feel like that one npc you meet in a story and you know they'r just gonna die to set a darker tone for the narrative.

That's not a contradiction because they aren't the same thing. 1, robin's death is a main plot point that drives the story forward, therefore it's important to make the player care about the character so that it's interesting. If it isn't interesting, it's not a good story. As for adventurine point, it's a side story that's randomly placed in the middle of the main story where you take his perspective. That's completely different to developing robin's character. Adventurines backstory should have been done after the main story to give you a different perspective of his character, but putting it in the middle takes away from the trailblazers story.

Also Sunday is the main villain, but showing Robin getting shot doesn't make his villain story more rich, it's not the main point of his villain story, Sunday also didn't see that happen himself. Maybe you can't read, but Sunday's main origin story is his period listening to confessions for years, and they did show that more important point.
I think he meant with the length of Aventurine airtime, that should be character quest. Meanwhile a small section at best 15 minutes of building up Robin backstory until getting shot then back to Sunday reasoning, is good enough to not be a character quest.

Even the Aventurine part of the story was better, maybe Slumbernana monkey was worse or about the same, but at least it interspersed with some wholesome March/Dan Heng interaction and Mr. Reca was actually hilarious. Honestly, Penacony was not really that bad. Dissapointing in some regards, far from peak, but it was ok for what it delivered. I think Ryuuku does not understand that Honkai games are more about stories and less about the gameplay. Lets be honest, even if he got more gameplay, it would have changed nothing because he would have just auto battled through it quickly anyway and still complained.
That being said, I do agree he has valid points. Dialogue needs more life/interactivity, it can be cut down, the fake out deaths etc...but he lost me when he complained the game did not properly explain certain things or that the story didn't make sense. I understood it fine without needing to read additional info or deep dive into SU/DU. He definitely did not pay attention like he claims or failed to pay attention in earlier gameplay leading up to Penacony. That made it hard to take him seriously aside from the yapping criticism.

Xuanzhou Loufu sucks balls for these reasons:
1. Too focused on showing off characters, leading to everyone having half-ass character development.
2. Some characters just happen to be at very convenient places for no particular reasons other than "the plot demands it"
3. For someone called "Divine Foresight", Jing Yuan only won because he got lucky.
Biggest reason is that MC is entirely pointless. Captured Kafka? Immediately escapes. Epic battle with the final boss? Dan heng solved all of it.

I really liked 2.5 because the pacing felt so refreshing, with more forward motion and actually compelling fights. and when there was a lot of yapping it was high stakes and really engaging.
then 2.6 happened and yeah everything he talked about was still pretty true (tho Boothill section was well paced IMO). in general I do think we need more turn based combat in the turn based combat game.
I loved Penacony and can forgive the inefficient storytelling for the sake of the long view and piecing the lore together, but he's so not wrong about the pacing and division of time. I really hope Amphoreus is a step forward from everything Hoyo and the community have learned from the journey so far. maybe more fights with trial story characters so it really feels connected to the plot. more dynamic cutscenes and show over tell. this is the kind of feedback the game needs, the devs hand been listening in terms of QoL and other balancing so I hope they are listening about the storytelling.

yeah and he complained about some important story information being locked behind non mandatory content but he wants Aventurine's story ( which is essential to understand his actions in 2.1 ) to not be part of the main quest but a companion quest ( which are not mandatory ).
I do agree with some of his points ( to some extend. Hsr's story is far from perfect, especially when it comes to story telling ) but he is definitly over hating.
Aventurine is a villain though and already got a lot of screen time. Robin barely had any.
hsr way of storytelling still needs improvement, but the story for me stands out the most out of any gachas in the space. imagine zzz storytelling combined with hsr story😆? hsr is in no way the worst game just because it have bloated dialouge, this kurobot hairline far surpasses that.

I have a problem with the way certain characters were handled in Penacony.
Firefly implied in 2.0 that she could only use her 'body' in the dreamscape. because she was 'confined to the icy cabin' or whatever and because she has a disease. Never brought up again, and it seems like she can move around fine? i actually couldn't tell because by the end 'Reality' and the Dreamscape got so muddied up, I couldn't tell where we were.
Aventurine should've actually died. His character was completed, his entire story arc and the climax was resolved.
Black Swan was LITERALLY just a Deus Ex Machina in multiple situations, to the point where wtf is the point of her character besides just being in the right place with the right solution?
That's about it though. Other characters Acheron, Sunday, and Welt all just talk TOO FUCKING SLOW.

Have you ever considered the mech suit = to the 'icy cabin' your referring to also some of the story about characters are in the myriad celestia and the Simulated Uni and if you are that invested in their story you can piece them together through the sprinkled pieces they throw at you which I am not bothered to go through.
@genli5616 yes I understand the icy cabin is the metaphor for the mech suit lol. It had just seemed as if when she was speaking about it in 2.0, Firefly was confined inside of it with no way of exiting, and the Dreamscape was the only way she was able to move around outside of it. But that's clearly not the case, because of the scene in the car with Blade on the other planet. So that piece of dialogue is weird to me.

Honestly saying Luofu is good and Penacony is bad is only a take you can have if you know either 0 lore or paid no attention.
The initial Xianzhou Quest is still the worst in the game for multiple reasons.
It introduced a concept they quickly scrapped which was the idea of mamdatory side quests
This created a huge issue for the story because people who actually did the Dan Shu quest were greeted by basically a completely different character in the follow up of the story that was just cartoonishly evil and then got insta killed by fake Tingyun

Something that was not built up AT ALL in the entire previous quest.
Tingyun being Phantylia absolutely could have worked as twist if:
A) We knew Phantylia even was a character that exists, which we didn't snd therefore made her a completely ineffective twist villain
B) If we actually met the *real* Tingyun at *any* point WHICH WE DIDN'T
Point B is the biggest misstep as the absence of ever meeting the actual Tingyun makes any investment the player and the in universe cast have in her death a complete joke.
Oh and finally a personal gripe.... Blade and Dan Heng.
Giant lore that was built up highly and fell flat in a 10 second cutscene were Blade insta wins and then joins DHIL because we need to have gameplay for two Banner characters.
Big Lore of these two? Naaaa we resolve this stuff in a few seconds.
In terms of story telling, luofu is better. He did not say it is good, but it is relatively better than penacony's storytelling. And if you watch till the end you may heard him say luofu is also bad just a bit better than penacony in his opinion in terms of storyteling

It's really telling when Belobog, the first planet had the best story telling even after Xianzhou and Penacony was released in all of its entirety. I hope the game picks up again when the new planet comes around since the other two didn't really seem as engaging for me.
2.5 teased us with major story in the future, but 3.0 will be all about the new planet. The teaser for 2.5 just went nowhere 😂
